Where is the middle between leftwing liberals and rightwing republicans?
That's the question, I reckon. The greatest irony of the debate between the two sides is their common meesage: "Keep government out of our lives."
Name me a president that proposed health care for the elderly by law and cut taxes as well? (liberal/conservative) Name me another president that opened the door to today's globalization and protected the environment as well? (conservative/liberal) Name me another president who cut taxes, yet also protected a key government program that exists today? (conservative/liberal) Name another president that enacted leave for employees, and removed a law mentioned recently in this thread? (liberal/conservative) Oh, and the phrase is actually "right wing conservatives" that goes with "left wing liberals". Note in the examples, and yes they are real, of both principles enacted in governing.....neither 100% liberal, nor 100% conservative....governing in the (wait for it)...M I D D L E. Independents are neither 100% liberal nor 100% conservative....they embraced both.

This is the great Rep lie that goes on for decades. FDR put together the NEW DEAL and that is what brought us out of the Great depression.. It put Americans back to work. Rep always hated it too. Why? because it took them 20 years to get there greedy hands on government money. Also don't forget he died in office because he was voted in again and again. Rep are aggressive that how they get into office. The great president are always Democrats!... The new plan by the Rep is to add 700 billion to our deficit. Keep the tax break for those making 200,000 because we all make that and all us small business make that even though according the the Rep party no one has jobs. So not sure who makes it except the top 1% of the country.
Guess who said this, Appletart: "We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. After eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started ...and an enormous debt to boot!" So, what's your guess? Dick Cheney? Ronald Reagan? It was Henry Morgenthau, Secretary of the Treasury under Franklin Roosevelt. That's right, FDR's own Secretary of the Treasury. Not George Bush or Newt Gingrich, or any other "Rep". Read it again in case it didn't sink in. You have such a quaint, painfully oblivious way of expressing yourself, part of me just wants to give you a big hug. Where did you grow up, if I may ask? What is your first language?
mustangsally10:
...from the article: The past decade was the worst for the U.S. economy in modern times, a sharp reversal from a long period of prosperity that is leading economists and policymakers to fundamentally rethink the underpinnings of the nation's growth. There has been zero net job creation since December 1999. No previous decade going back to the 1940s had job growth of less than 20 percent. Economic output rose at its slowest rate of any decade since the 1930s as well.
The Washington Post? That's really objective, isn't it, Sally. Worst economy in modern times? What nonsense. The average unemployment statistics for the '00s were virtually identical to those of the '90s. Anyone who wanted to work did. Lord only knows why you would want to bring up the subject of job creation today unless you wanted to criticize 0bama. He's off to such a great start, isn't he? You might argue that he hasn't had a chance to make a difference yet, but that would work only if he weren't getting a lot of what he wanted out of the Democrat congress (which has been ruling the roost for four years, by the way). The economy wants to recover and is trying to, but as long as we are saddled with Obama's socialist boot-on-the-neck-of-business policies, it isn't going to happen. What socialist country would you like to use as a model? The old East Germany? Maybe the Soviet Union? Or how about modern day Cuba or North Korea?

Agree in principle, but a couple of points: Independents are just as likely to be radically right or radically left as they are to be centrists. That's what independent means - not necessarily a bit of both, but simply independent of party platform. Here's the bigger problem: America has drifted so far to the right that there is no left - so people who are in the middle by any objective assessment seem like lefties by comparison. When people seriously claim that ensuring everyone has health cover is communism, that's when those of us who know about public health systems just shake our heads and laugh. The US doesn't have left, centre and right. The US has centre-right, far right, extreme right, fucking insane and Glenn Beck. Show me a left-wing Democrat in public office. Please don't say Nancy Pelosi if you don't want the rest of the world to start laughing again. If Obama is your idea of a liberal, then you ain't seen liberals. If he's your idea of a socialist, then you really need to get some perspective. Oh, and hi everyone. Trust you're well. Seeya!

Obama was the most liberal senator while in office. I don't think he's an avowed socialist. He's at least smart enough not to show his hand. The thing that those outside of America don't comprehend is that MOST of us don't wish to be gauged by a global standard. Your liberal is not my liberal. Your socialism is virulent to me. Unacceptable. Look at who stood up to the forces of totalitarianism and attempted world domination. Are any of these funding a nanny state ? Oh right...it's a VERY short list. I will get nothing from the programs that Democrats have either enacted or envision. I am too rich. Boo hoo. Ha ha. Therefore I will endorse scrapping or reworking every single "entitlement" I encounter. Please note: entitlements are not the same as earned benefits (wounded veterans, disabled Americans, etc.). NO one is entitled to anything in this world. You earn help by doing. Proving that you deserve a helping hand. We all get exactly what we deserve.

Well look what we have and right in time for the holidays Mr Scrooge come to pay us a visit! Yes, Tiny Tim should not be crippled, what was he thinking? Oh noes! he and his family would like medical care for him : What has he done to earn it : nothing at all But, his most despicable transgression is to have been born in poverty. He should have known better than that : And now his family would like to see him rise above their circumstances : They would like for him to attend universtiy : Haha...good luck with that...we must increase university tuitions to help pay for tax cuts for the rich Tiny Tims father Bob Cratchit has said he would like and needs a fair working wage to support his family doesn't he know that that would stifle competition and profits in his industry...DUH Tax cuts for the rich and depressed low wages must be kept in tact because they eventually will result in mountains of trickle down prosperity for all That has worked so well in the past Right : Since you can see how well that has worked in the past you must keep voting us in (suckers) and we promise the money that we make from your labour will trickle down like flowers (you fools) Here's a little holiday song for Mr Scrooge:

Did anyone watch the Reality Politician's,new reality show? *********************************************************** Just couldn't bring myself to watch it. Unlike other reality TV where they show the good with the bad this is set to make her look only good. Show you the power of celebrity. I decided Palin's a plant. She there to get people so upset and mad than at the last minute they'll put in the person who they really wanted to get in... Who They? Corp America starting with Goldman Sachs.

Or if they put her in the race as a diversion and than at the last minute slip in the other person they really wanted in. Keep the negative on Palin as a diversion and than bate and switch.

Shouldn't one know what reality actually is in order to have his/her own reality tv-series?

Funny how the graph tilts downward after your Democrats took over congress.

... Your opinion doesn't really matter if it doesn't use facts oh and BTW you're wrong about Roosevelt too. You don't try to reduce the deficit when in recovery when unemployment is still high it deflates the economy at the worse time http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/jun/14/lunatics-economy-cuts-frankin-roosevelt
Larry Elliott? Paul Krugman? Good grief... Obama was rebuffed on his trip last week for advocating dysfunctional policies like these. Other leaders are acknowledging that this unconscionable spending doesn't work. (Maybe Greece didn't spend enough. Would that be your position?) Fortunately, people who think the way you do are in the minorty and your numbers are shrinking. By the way, I wasn't wrong about Roosevelt. Henry Morgenthau said it, not I.
