The ..2012.... Political thread
-
I do remember 3-4 years ago when the economy was on the brink of disaster so much so that McCain suspended his campaign because it was too much to deal with and two mega financial entities went belly up (Lehman & Merrill Lynch) People with any investments who didn't know what was happening saw their portfolios drop to almost nothing. There was almost panic in the streets and we were heading for another great depression. That was when bush threw a bunch of federal money at the problem and when Obama was sworn in he had to do the same. We've been climbing our way out of the hole that was dug by the republicans since then and employment is slowing picking up http://www.usnews.com/opinion/mzuckerman/articles/2011/02/11/the-great-jobs-recession-goes-on
More jobs were lost in the recession of 2007-09 than in the previous four recessions combined?and this time it is an agonizingly slow business to replace them. Of the 8.8 million jobs lost during the downturn, roughly 900,000 were recovered in 2010, and many of these were temporary census positions. Since last June, employers have added a net of only about 284,000 jobs.
Not easy replacing over 8 MILLION jobs. But the US car industry was saved and is doing well and all that has been accomplished has been done with the rethugs trying to undermine the recovery. We are much better off than we were 3-4 years ago..but we have a way to go as losses were so deep. Obama's second term will see even more recovery and move to a green economy. And now looks like the rethugs are going to INCREASE TAXES for 160 MILLION Americans

You can thank YOUR man, Barney Frank for putting us there and then Obama for sinking us worse....

Great news!! President Obama announces Historic New Mercury Emissions Standards!! Took 20 years to get it done
It's getting better all the timeMore great news from the Obama administration is that Biden once again puts his foot in his mouth by stating the Taliban is not our enemy...then the White House issues a statement indicating it stands behind those remarks...nice for us because people are counting down the days until that farce of a administration is gone and the more dumbass comments like that, the merrier... Obama and gang were smarter when they distanced themselves from this bafoon's comments....(such as asking a paraplegic to stand up and take a bow)...now they just outright support his stupidity
No need to distance from Biden's comments because they are honest and correct. Just like the German's will not be our enemy forever because of their involvement in WWII the Taliban is a rag tag group who are being assimilated into their countries so they will have to be accepted...it's called diplomacy. al Qaeda is our enemy (well the few who are left ) because they still plot against us. You're going to be counting a long time rich Really who of your candidates do you think can beat Obama : hehe
First, answer to that last question is not a chance in hell I'll be counting beyond 2012...Media and press on Obama's side????? Maybe the Daily KOS and MSNBC...LOL...and I'm sure even they're wishing that Hillary or another Dem could come in and get this clown out of office. Pretty much everyone wants Obama out of office...the only difference is that Dems want another Dem while Republics would like a Republican.... I actually saw a vehicle in Harvard Square the other day with numerous anti Obama bumper stickers listed all over the back of the vehicle...although I felt bad that this car was destined to be vandalized by the crazy Libs in that area, I was proud of this car's owner for speaking out a truth that needs to be told

I don't know that the opposing candidates can beat Obama as much as Obama beating Obama. His record. The administration. Voters who are frustrated with the direction the Country is going. Too much spending. High unemployment. Over 10, 20 and 30% in some Cities. One out of three people not working. People who have given up looking for work. Fudged unemployment numbers - where they say a low number - then two months later correct that number to what it really is ... High gasoline prices. Class warfare. A non friendly toward business - administration. (It comes from the top). Etc... etc .... So whoever the opposing candidate ..... they just have to use the record. (Last time Obama did not really have a record - except to vote present). What the opposing candidate must watch out for is ..... the media and press is on Obama's side. They will dig for everything to slam the opposing candidate instead of pointing out their own accomplishments. This is the way it is in the political world. They also have to face a person who will have close to a billion dollars to spend on getting in that office. And they should ask the question .... are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?
True - and the answer to that last question is no...Even those of us lucky enough to have jobs at this time are sometimes almost made to feel like hostages at that job because mgmt understands how difficult it is to move on to new opportunities right now....

Not many people understand that 'Bawney' Frank (as he's known around here) is singlehandidly responsible for the housing credit loans that put the housing market where it is today...the Dems will always turn back and say 'bu bu bu bu but...it was on Bush's watch'...LOL...Time to stop blaming Bush for everything...Obama seeminly opposed Bush policies from A-Z, then went on a torrid path of mirroring Bush policies in many areas while making radically irresponsible fiscal decisions in other areas...FAIL - NEXT!!!

Obama doesn't need any help looking bad...and to answer your last question, so failures like BO (appropriate initials) don't make office and try to take money that was hard earned and give it to a bunch of freeloaders - there are people that need legit help and the freeloaders are ruining everything for those truly in need. Those who truly need help always got help regardless of which party had the office...it's only the right thing to do...but this 'everyone has to be exactly equal regardless of how much work you put into life' crap has to stop somewhere...and a new president (preferably Republican, but I'd take any change at this point) in 2012 is a good start

Yes, unemployment benefits are included in the bill that the rethugs were trying to stop...you are so uninformed it's scarey Here is President Obama's statement on the bill
For the past several weeks, I?ve stated consistently that it was critical that Congress not go home without preventing a tax increase on 160 million working Americans. Today, I congratulate members of Congress for ending the partisan stalemate by reaching an agreement that meets that test. Because of this agreement, every working American will keep his or her tax cut ? about $1,000 for the average family. That?s about $40 in every paycheck. Vital unemployment insurance will continue for millions of Americans who are looking for work. And when Congress returns, I urge them to keep working to reach an agreement that will extend this tax cut and unemployment insurance for all of 2012 without drama or delay. This is good news, just in time for the holidays. This is the right thing to do to strengthen our families, grow our economy, and create new jobs. This is real money that will make a real difference in people?s lives. And I want to thank every American who raised your voice to remind folks in this town what this debate was all about. It was about you. And today, your voices made all the difference

Unemployment has existed since before you were born...and when all the disaster bills from under Obama have been put to past, Unemployment benefits will still go on...the fact that the libs included it within an otherwise unfavorable bill does not mean it will not 'live on' (another lib ploy - dangle a necessity within a bill they're trying to pass so that it looks like the right is trying to take away the necessity if they oppose the overall bill - nice try...LOL)

?I just saw the president on TV talking about this extension of the pay roll tax, and he?s standing up talking about $40 a paycheck, and what that means,? .... ?Let me ask you all something. Are you better off today than you were $4 trillion ago? Somebody needs to ask this president about the $4 trillion that he basically has put down a rat hole that didn?t create any jobs, that put this country in the economic condition that it?s in.? http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/rick-perry-blasts-obama-for-payroll-tax-cut-extension/

That seems so stupid, to blame Obama for the massive avalanche of problems he inherited from the Bush administration

It's almost 4 years later...and the bulk of what Obama 'inherited' (at least domestically) was from Barney Frank's doing...Another Dem and Obama snark

All your spin doesn't detract from the FACT that you said unemployment was not included in the payroll tax bill. You either lied or are horribly uninformed. Of course unemployment benefits were included they were going to expire in January..that was the big conspiracy you mention. Just about everything you post on this thread is either an outright lie or comes from being misinformed just like all your buster about Frank. People like you who don't represent the truth are dangerous. so I will keep calling you out on it.
