I've realized that many here like Star Trek a lot, so we could have a thread about it. But, before starting, I think we should create kind of a Prime Directive, lol. To avoid "spoiling", telling what is going to happen to someone who hasn't seen the episode, movie or anything yet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_directive#Text "In other words, the Federation cannot give an evolving species technology that the species has not discovered." What do you think about it? I'm open to suggestions, I'm more like Picard than like Kirk.

Did you see the episode of The Big Bang Theory last week where they dressed up as the Next Generation characters and ended up having their car stolen and they were stranded in the desert? So funny! I love that show--they are always making Star Trek references and some of the real actors (Wil Wheaton, Levar Burton) have been on the show. Wasn't Brent Spiner too?

He was. They also had a Leonard Nimoy moment in a holiday episode. Original Star Trek is my preference. The Kirk-Spock-McCoy friendship beats anything the Next Generation had to offer, IMO.

I've heard many people talking about their friendship.... but what friendship? lol I can't see it. McCoy can't stand Spock. And Spock is just unable to be friends with anyone. Something emotional, not logic, so...

You need to watch the entire 3 seasons in order (79 episodes) and you will see that McCoy really loves Spock and vice versa! Spock shows emotion--just watch the episode Amok Time where he thinks he killed Kirk!!

I respectfully ask, why is the "original" preferred? Personally I think the best thing "Star Trek" was First Contact. (and it's not an age thing/familiarity, I saw TMP the day it came out, and everything after.)

I don't know... In the polls on the internet the most prefered one is The Next Generation, and then Deep Space 9 and The Original Series. In movies is First Contact and then The Wrath of Khan. Do you mean movies or series? (then there's animated series, books, etc.)

I've been a fan since Sept. 1966 when I was 11 and the original series began, so it has always been dear to my heart. Nothing beats Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the crew. I watched every episode many, many times. Also watched all the new ST shows (TNG, Deep Space 9, Voyager, Enterprise) and loved them too. And of course have seen (and own) all the movies.

Don't get me wrong, my point was just that I did watch when Kirk & Spock were still "had new things going on." Maybe I'm just a little removed from that cast. (I honestly haven't watched in a long time)

I watched most all of the shows with Kirk at the helm and a lot of the shows with Picard at the helm. When Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) came out with the V'Ger featured, I thought it was incredibly ! Got to see the cutest and baddest space probe ever!

Paul McCartney is a trekkie. Here's Paul with the guys that made the last Star Trek movie

and if this wasn't enough here's a mash up of The Beatles + William Shatner (Captain Kirk)-Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, a Beatles/Star Trek mashup
