Kathryn, TCM does indeed show some great movies, hence my addiction. I could listen to Robert Osborne talk forever - so informative! Tonight's features are favorites of Robert's quests Ben Burtt and Craig Barron. I enjoyed listening to Ben and Craig as they discussed the making of Robbie the Robot for Forbidden Planet. They also discussed some of what was involved in creating the visual effects for Gunga Din. It was interesting to hear these men chat about the trick cameras and paintings, etc. used to accomplish these visual effects - so very different from today's techniques. I enjoyed the archival film shot by Douglas Fairbanks Jr. with his home-movie camera. Very cool to see color home-movies of the black and white movie filming.

LOVE Wuthering Heights, one that I hate to miss, but had been out of town at air time. Also LOVE the 1992 remake of this film with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche - well worth seeing if you have not already had the pleasure of doing so.

Never had a great interest in Andy Griffith, but one of my daughters asked me to watch the four-film memorial tribute with her. This was the first time that I had ever taken a good look at Andy's work, and the first time that I had seen No Time for Sergeants. I was pleasantly surprised with Andy's natural comedic talent and genuinely enjoyed this film. The PLO scene was priceless! Also enjoyed the toilet seats standing at attention for the Colonel's inspection - surprisingly sweet film! Currently enjoying Captain Horatio Hornblower with Gregory Peck!

Love it...watch it all the time!

Hi Val! Great to see you here at the message board - nice surprise!!! Anything in particular that you look forward to at TCM - The Essentials, Summer Under the Stars, etc.? When you have the time, please let us know some of your favorite classic movies!
-
If anyone happens to note an air time for Raintree County (1957 - Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, Eva Marie Saint) please, please, please, post the information here. Have not seen this film in a very long time, missed last summer's airing and sadly this film is not currently available on DVD. Desperate to see this film again and would greatly appreciate a heads up!!!

Audi, I vividly remember when AMC aired nothing but commercial-free, classic movies. I was young at the time and AMC was my favorite channel. Along with you, I sent my VCR up in flames recording from this channel! ops: I was very disappointed when AMC began adding commercials into their programming, then eventually changing their format. Once in a while I come across a good movie on AMC, but to be honest, the commercials kill it for me.

Steve, are you referring to the greatest movie??? If so, you know that is going to be debatable! My first guess is that you are thinking of The Wizard of Oz .
