Today's Summer Under the Stars honoree is Ingrid Bergman which means that as we are approaching 8PM EDT it is time to break out a box of tissues, curl up on the sofa, and settle in for an airing of Casablanca! Sooooo much chemistry!!! Looking forward to Gaslight following Casablanca! Thoroughly enjoying Summer Under the Stars!
Garbo and now Bergman. It's a good week for Swedes on TCM.
Love 'em both! Anything with Garbo is great! Charlie Chaplin too!
-
There is a two part American Experience on PBS of the life of Walt Disney on this week. Part Two is tonight.

Last Friday September 11th, 12:30 PM Born To Dance (1936) A sailor on leave helps a young dancer make it to the top on Broadway. Dir: Roy Del Ruth; Cast: Eleanor Powell , James Stewart , Virginia Bruce . BW-106 mins, CC, Ok, Beatles detectives _ the movie dialog include at least 2 key Beatles song titles and/or key song words. Can't think of the first, but the second was "Helter Skelter". Coincidence - or did they watch the movie & get the ideas? The hearing first one got me thinking, "That Would Be Something". Then when the second was uttered, then I really began wondering. btw - I was completely sober at the time And they are not in the following preview:

How far do you want to dig? There's a Bluebird radio, a submarine, a lonely hearts club and a Lucy.

Well the only difference is that subject movie, Born To Dance was released in 1936 - a time before all the Beatles were born. " Lonely Hearts Club " - that's it!!! I only saw a little of the movie. And you're saying the movie also included ....!!! Could it be that John & Paul saw the movie & liked it???!
-
Jimmy Stewart and Eleanor Powell meet at a lonely hearts club, fall in love, there's a misunderstanding that breaks them up, they figure out the truth and live happily ever after. There's nothing Beatles about it, except for some great music.

My favorite actress Maureen O' Hara. http://www.irishcentral.com/culture/entertainment/Oscar-winning-Maureen-OHara-speaks-about-her-life-as-a-Hollywood-legend.html?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=IC%20Favorites%20September%2026&utm_term=The%20Best%20of%20IrishCentral I really loved her with John Wayne in "The Quiet Man." Set in Ireland so romantic! And there is a link where they are saving the cottage from the movie. I met Maureen O'Hara in 1990 and she is as gorgeous in person as on screen, if not more so, and so gracious and kind. A real movie star as well.
-
^ So sorry you lost your favorite, hey_kittay! Maureen is brilliant in The Quiet Man! LOVE Maureen and John's unforgettable kiss in the wind with her beautiful red hair flowing:
My favorite of Maureen's performances are in How Green Was My Valley, Miracle on 34th Street, The Quiet Man, and Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation. I also enjoy her fiery performance in Only the Lonely. Maureen will be missed! -

Maureen will be missed!Yes, she was so lovely. So kind. It was an honor to have been in her presence as a human being. When I worked on "Only The Lonely" in 1990, I would see her around. She always had a smile on her face and was gracious and classy. Love the update for her movies TLP.

Recently bought two classics on DVD starring Paul Newman, "Harper" and "Sweet Bird of Youth," the latter written by the great Tennessee Williams. Love me some Paul Newman. One of the greats. I love Maureen O'Hara, what a spirited lively magnificent lass. Maureen and John Wayne were super together.

Hi (((Steve)))! I am so happy for you and sooooo jealous!!! How I wish we were on the brink of receiving our first snow! It has been unseasonably warm here, I still have roses in bloom! As much as I enjoy caring for my rose gardens, I would rather be making snow angels right about now! I agree, The Quiet Man is excellent and Maureen is at her finest in this film. Not only do I enjoy the kiss in the wind scene, I also like the scene when they burn the money and Maureen declares "I'll be goin' on home now, I'll have the supper ready for you." The look on her face and her body language as she turns toward the camera is priceless - LOVE it!
-
I recently bought "Sweet Bird of Youth" with Paul Newman and Geraldine Page, on DVD, also "Night of the Iguana" starring Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Deborah Kerr. Both based on plays and screenplays written by Tennessee Williams.
