How Does Your Garden Grow?
-
Well today the rosebuds opened Dans De Fue, Arthur Bell, Paul Scarlett and McCartney got someone to cut the grass again this year by the looks of it, doing less and less in the garden, luckily it is small and full of rose bushes - cut the roses and the deadwood. Babies again this year (bluetits in my box) but not eating the mealworms I bought and soak for them not five foot from the box; starlings from the roof ailing two doors down love them, glad of that £3 a bag, lots of enjoyment from watching first one then the other swoop down.
-
^ I like watching the birds eat also. I mistakenly let a robin build a nest in a tree right next to the patio. Now she comes swooping down at me every time I go past.
-
robins can get so friendly but are so fearless for such a little tiny bird.

The Lilacs that I talked about on this very thread .... Have came out with Beauty and magnificent fragrance

Met my neighbor today and she's giving me cuttings...yummy raspberries and blackberries too, all I need is a blueberry bush or two. Going to make a raised garden. Does anyone know how to take bits from irises? Going to ask the people in my old house if I can get some of my old bearded irises. They were so pretty. Yellow and ble and purple

Careful where you put those raspberries. My neighbors plants (which are long gone-both neighbor & plant)are still coming up in my garden.
They spread out underground & come up in the least expected place. Iris have fleshy roots that can be broken apart. Not sure if this is the right time to be dividing them. Here... http://www.almanac.com/plant/irises

Thanks about the raspberries spreading, come to think of it, they had spread all over her garden! I'll put them in the raised garden then. That was really helpful about the bearded iris. I had one like this, so beautiful, but they all are... http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/purple-yellow-bearded-iris-2122012.jpg

That iris is beautiful.

Our kid's "mystery" plant to me turned out to be a pretty red petunia. Yesterday while on the way home from running errands I stopped at a small local nursery & bought a pot of bright orange geraniums (now in my teacup planter) a some lovely giant pin evening primroses which are going in the flower bed in front of our house.
-
Lowe's has mulch on sale...5 bags for $10.00. I am going back tomorrow for 10 more!
-
Went to the nursery on the back road today & they were very busy. Got 4 pots of mini begonias & 2 pots of some pretty bell-like flowers & got a discount & saved $4! Now I need plants for 2 more pots & I'm done planting things in pots.

Weeds are, well, growing like a weed.
-
Hubby finally got weed wacker & attacked weeds
-
Turns out we don't have foxglove in our side yard after all! It's mullein!
-
I have some kind of tree dropped berries that are red then purple. My dog is going crazy eating them. I had to section off the yard...I don't know what the berries are.
-
Here's a lot of names of berries that you may have to look up the photo... Hope it helps https://sites.google.com/site/feedmestrawberries/Home/types-of-berries Hope my garden was watered while I was away...

I bet it is one of these: Serviceberries: This berry-like pome is red to purple in color. It is a sweet berry that is used to make pies and jams. Chokeberries: The fruit is a small pome and has a very bitter flavor. There are two species of chokeberries, red chokeberry and black chokeberry. The purple chokeberrry is a hybrid of the above two. It is used to make juices, jam, wine, etc. It is also used as a flavoring and coloring agent. It is high in Vitamin C and antioxidants. Thanks L2T.
