Many immigrants pulled off an awesome protest/demonstration Friday--didn't show up for work, which showed how vital and important they are. Supposed to be another biggie in New York Sunday--"I Am Muslim" showing solidarity with Muslims, who Trump attempts to demonize--all of them, when only a tiny percent are fanatic extremist terrorists.

My grandfather came to this country from Russia as a child, at a time when the U.S. had no immigration restrictions other than the odious Chinese Exclusion Act. I have immigrant coworkers and friends -- some with papers, some without -- and I will do whatever I can to defend them.

At work we had to bring in proof of citizenship... It's starting... one guy left...

What kind of workplace requires proof of citizenship??? Millions of legal resident noncitizens work in the U.S. with no problem. It's illegal to discriminate against noncitizens if they have legal permission to work in the U.S. http://hiring.monster.com/hr/hr-best-practices/monster-training/security-center/hiring-non-us-workers.aspx

I don't remember ever having to bring in a passport or social security card to be copied and to go in my file. Perhaps there is someone at work with a green card, I don't know? The timing with the trump election just couldn't have been more coincidental. I'll have to ask one of the foreign guys. I know another guy left and who was a minority. I know he was extremely worried about the election outcome. A really nice guy, I was sad for him, because he was so upset. Then he was gone. Not sure of the particulars.

I've always had to bring in a passport or soc. security card when I've gotten a new job as proof that I was authorized to work in the U.S., even here in CA. They copy it and keep it on your file along with your I9.

Whatever the details (which are worth investigating, in case your employer is doing something improper), I am so sorry to hear what happened to your coworker. I have a colleague who is himself a citizen but has a couple undocumented family members, and he's terribly frightened for them. I can't even imagine what that must feel like.

Ive worked there over 20 years, so it's not like I'm new. The guy who left (I presume) was scared as well. Very frightened and I feel so sad for him. He confided in me, because I was one of the few people who voted for Hillary. He didn't tell me he was leaving. Im sure it was because of the election tho. I don't think they are doing anything improper. They wouldn't do it if it wasn't legal. I'm going to ask around. I spoke to a friend tonite who was never asked to provide documentation, so now I'm curious. Just read that Pence friended a huge Hillary supporter friend on Twitter. That's pretty nutty, the V P himself, Trump won an expensive lawsuit over a blogger who said his wife was Melania was a whore before she married trump. Melania, is suing for a very large amount ? Because she is losing money as First Lady, and all of the potential money she will be losing, since her businesses are a conflict of interest and she can't peddle her businesses. Thinking that's a preamble to test the water for Donald's businesses. Not sure who they're suing, our government? Anyone know more?? :

This is very bad, Trump White House not allowing several major news organizations including New York Times and CNN into a White House press conference. Time magazine and other news outlets declined to take part, after that. I thought we have freedom of the press and free speech in the U.S. And a young engineer from India shot to death in Kansas, two other people of color were wounded, by a man shouting "send them back" thinking they were Muslims.

I think someone from the NYT called Melania Trump a 'hooker'...I wouldn't allow them either...Telling CNN to pound sand and go find some other way to find their news is not infringing upon their first amendment rights...as long as Trump is not legislating law to shut them down, there is no wrong doing

Rich, that's a completely ridiculous statement. Even for a Trumper, you should be embarrassed. Trump is a liar and hypocrite and needs more press scrutiny, not less.

TEAM EARTH Find The Higher Middle Ground
Really like your quotes Steve It's great to see that the people are starting to see, that the current government's tactics are not fair, not what was promised and are peacefully protesting the status quo in Washington and around the globe. I have seen so many people reaching out lately, especially to those minorities that are especially being targeted. Seeing that makes me happy to be part TEAM EARTH!!! It's Friday and I'm taking the High Road in Middle Earth...to the Shire, for the weekend

If only Trump would pull an Ariana Huffington, change from hard right conservative to liberal, more reasonable, more helpful and less harmful.

Except that Trump isn't a hard-right conservative now. His ideas for trade policy, for example, are about as un-conservative as you can get. He's an opportunistic psychopath with no discernible belief system beyond a deep need to prove how great he is every minute.

Is that good or bad? (Just being facetious)

The latest Trump victim, tourism to the US according to Fodors Travel, is expected to slump and jobs will be lost. Reports of being roughed up in customs are surfacing. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/accused-of-having-an-incorrect-visa-mem-fox-detained-by-immigration-officials-at-la-airport/news-story/aa712d3867d1509c52c3608798e19db5
