Well, the Trump administration is finally allowing a formal transition to begin -- though the Orange Menace is still too much of a flippin' crybaby to admit he LOST.
I know! It's insane! I truly won't lose my anxiety about this until Jan. 20th when Biden is sworn in (and Trump will probably have to be escorted out by a SWAT team!)
The Senate is holding Trump in Contempt. Maybe unfit? Very Happy for Biden!

I was watching CBS This Morning and they had someone on who is a marriage counselor - he suggested that what this country needs are marriage (or interpersonal relationship) counselors who can work with people on both sides of the political spectrum and say "You're talking about the other side's faults, and how they've offended you, but what can you do, on your part, to make things better and keep this country together?" He had a reporter walk the streets asking people that question. One guy responded by saying, "{Bleep} you, we're past talking, I want a divorce!"
When Jimmy Carter was working on the Arab-Israeli peace talks, the first question he asked each side was, "Do you respect their right to exist?" and he slowly built a peace structure from there. That makes sense, but it's what people do while they exist that seems to be the point of disagreement! How can we work with that?

I'd like explanations from more Trump supporters about why they admire and support such a person whose obvious faults and failings have been endlessly described. Did many just not keep up with the news enough? Take him on surface value not fact checking what he said? Why should a POTUS have "fans" who adore him anyway. I'm a Dem, but I just liked and appreciated Clinton, Obama, etc., when they did things right, and disapproved when they messed up. I wasnt a fan who almost worshiped them... I don't see how a charmless offensive oaf and buffoon like Trump can be avidly followed and "adored." To me he has zero charisma. I kept up with the many ways he wrought destruction on democracy, hurt the country and its citizens. It's a big bummer 70 million voted for him; Obama and others implied they'd be easy pickins' for a political anti-Christ to come along who is smoother, more polished and smarter than D.T. who wants to totally destroy our democracy and become King. Obama said he fears for the future of our democracy.

Watched an interesting documentary about cults and in the documentary, they showed reasons why Trumpism is a cult. Reading Michael Cohen's book, he also repeated many times in his book that he had a blind loyalty and how he was slowly indoctrinated and it was cult like looking back. His family also saw it and urged him to leave Trump. It took his being arrested and thrown in jail to wake him up. This is the experience that I see with friends and family I've known all my life, they would never act or have beliefs like they do now. It's like they were brainwashed and there is nothing you can say to snap them out of the spell.
The good news is that Biden won, he is surrounding himself with long time government experts to bring our country back. It won't be easy, however, we have some really good vaccines and so we need to stay safe until 60-70% of us have been vaccinated by April-June. Please stay safe til then. Wear your masks indoors when visiting others. Let's stay peaceful and walk away from confrontations. Keep faith and hope in humanity. We all need to stand together and support each other.

Yes, Trumpism is a cult. The key to cults is shutting out contradictory information, and MAGA cultists are able to do that via Fox News, Facebook, OANN, Newsmax, etc. To answer Susy's question, they don't see most of Trump's faults because in their information bubble those faults don't exist. He's a brave, selfless leader being besieged, by partisan, corrupt, socialist Democrats. It's laughable to us, but they think it's reality. As I posted in another thread, I've dealt with cults before. They are very hard to break through.

Unfortunately even after he is no longer POTUS, there will be millions who will still follow him. Who knows what could happen? Even after his death it will probably continue on! ️

It is so insane. The running narrative is that the Democrats are doing what Trump is actually doing. As far as I can see, Antifa is entirely made up from a Republican faction that acts violent and plays a false role in the the conspiracy narative. Has any Democrat ever been aware of another Democrat that is a part of Antifa? Because I know of Democrats who would know and yet they have not run into a real Democratic person yet who relates to Antifa. The last ones I saw on TV were wearing Black and helmets similar to the secret police that were throwing the peaceful demonstrators into vans. It’s like a bad and very fake Made for TV show...
Something is going on in Pennsylvania with the Republicans and electors. This is after the PA Supreme Court threw out the latest fraud case.

Just heard that some people think that perhaps certain Republican states may be trying to succeed as a racist confederate nation. It kind of makes sense since Trump’s advisors and many members of his cabinet are white nationalists. Donald The last Confederate President. Since the vote has been finalized and it is not accepted by Republicans, it is becoming clear that it is actually about lack of equality and very dark racial undertones. So ugly.
By the inauguration, in less than a year, more people will have died than in the 4+ years of American deaths during WWII. The death toll per day is equal to a Titanic sinking every day. Is this the Trump war on Americans, I’m starting to wonder?

That was Texas GOP Chair Allen West, who's always been something of a crackpot, hinting at secession. Personally, I'd say: Go, and don't let the door hit you on the a$$ on the way out.

This has to be seen as sedition and or a coupe. That is a very serious Federal crime and it's in writing. Kamala is a tough prosecutor and knows the law. I have Faith in our democracy! The military helicopters in my neighborhood have been practicing their strafing techniques should any gangs erupt. I have friends in NYC where planes and military helicopters have been practicing low dives. It was the same thing at my sisters. Joe also made a comment about the military today. They are ready for the wingnuts and they will get caught.

We should start a new one. "The 2020 and beyond political thread." Feel free to do so. I doubt if the mod would change the thread title since it began in 2012.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, with their spouses paid tribute to the over 400,000 deaths of Americans from Covid 19. It brought tears to my eyes.
Something I haven't seen the Trump administration do. They gave up having meetings about the Pandemic in July, with Trump' s comment, "There's nothing more I can do". If Joe Biden hadn't won, most likely the deaths would be in the millions soon. The next Pandemic meeting was after Biden won the election and put together a top notch Pandemic team of EXPERTS in pandemics and viruses on his 1st day!!
Congratulations Joe & Kamala!!

For Americans, in just under 14 hours we will be able to say -- to quote the late Gerald Ford -- "our long national nightmare is over."
To the rest of the world: Please forgive us. We'll try not to do this again.

I thought this was fun.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but have you guys seen all the memes of Bernie Sanders from the inauguration? There are a ton with the Beatles!! Here's one:
