pauls bass playing on 'letting go' sounds to me far more simplistic than the wings live version from the mid 1970s. i see hes using the 'hofner' for this song.i dont know for sure but the whole part seems to be missing! the old rickenbaker sound would be much appreciated and i do believe it slightly spoils a fantastic move by doing this fab song. even his voice seems to hold up really well and rusty and brians guitars just rock on this number.

I so agree. This song was one of the highlights for me at Dublin. He sings it really well and I love how he sings at the end "do you feel like letting go..." I never thought of the lacking bass...I have to listen to his recent live version again and compare it to the record. This is a really fab song, I love it and hope he keeps in the setlist for a long time.

I thought it sounded ok, even though this is the broadcast that didn't have Brian and Rusty's guitar's turned up very loud Call me criminal but I have always thought that "Arrow Through Me" and "Goodnight Tonight" were some of Paul's best bass work.

I noticed it yesterday..that Hofner really does not do the song justice. I agree, Paul still sounds amazingly well singing this song, but I miss that thumping bass line.

Agreed, those bass lines are brilliant. Most of the time those are the part of the song that gets stuck in my head!

Don't forget Silly Love Songs! I unshamefully love that song and bassline! Also some of the songs from the Beatles years, Rain anyone? Paul is an amazing bass player either way think of how many people he's inspired to play bass since 1963 for example.

These recent "Letting go" performances echo the studio recording, ratrher than the live versions from the '70s where he added many "fills" with his bass. The Venus & Mars version is more straight-ahead.

Rain, definitely great basss. Glad also that you mentioned Arrow Throw Me, the way the bass works in at the start of the song. Another one--the instrumental Momma Miss America off McCartney, on side 2 for us oldtimers. Great bass, especially near the end of the song.

I didn't notice the bass thing.. the guitar riffs are what always stood out in the song for me. But yesterday during the broadcast, I did notice how amazing his voice was on this song! WOW.. His voice almost gave me chills! Can't wait to hear this one live in a few months!!!

Yes, the Rickenbacker perhaps sounds more appropriate for some songs but I don't think that bass will ever see much, if any, stage use again. Paul has apparently suggested that these days he prefers the Höfner for its light weight. When I'm 68 I'll probably prefer my Höfner too (should I live that long). Really, whatever bass Paul plays sounds good in his hands. Höfner, Rickenbacker, Fender, Yamaha, Wal - it's all wonderful. I'm just thankful that he never hopped on the '80s bandwagon and picked up a Steinberger. Yuck! Also, Arrow Through Me is a bass line done on a keyboard. From Wings Over America, listen to Time To Hide for a great bass line. Nobody but Paul plays 'em like that.

'Twould be a fine thing! Paul's falsetto voice is as strong as it ever was. "Arrow Through Me" would be a nice surprise for me.

Oh, man... if "Arrow Through Me" made into a setlist, I'd die of excitement! I near about fainted at the Hollywood Bowl when he did "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five." I never, ever thought that song would ever get performed live.

Now it's still a great song, but slightly less forceful gimme that BASS on Letting Go! Oooo B-BOOM BOOM ..she tastes like wine.. B-BOOM BOOM BOOM the fills he was doing back them made it
