One to watch and follow over the next week. As part of the Cultural Olympiad linked to the games a large 20ft puppet of Lady Godiva is travelling from Coventry to London propelled by a 25 man "tandem" cycle arrangement. The Puppet "came to life" at a special show on Sunday at Coventry Cathedral, has now been "dressed in her finery and starts her journey today. Only glimpses of her - without her cycle team as yet :
I'll try to spot more coverage as it unfolds. Martin Here she is in transport mode with "The Cyclopedia" as the man power motive unit is called- -
The only thing I do not like about the NBC coverage is the historical tid bits they keep showing.....show the Olymipics dammit!
-
When they were marching in the parade ..... you saw many with cameras or phones .... capturing what they saw .... I was wondering if years ago they walked with a canvass and had to paint real quick what they saw ...... or a block of marble and had to chisel pretty quick like ....
-
I felt so bad for Jordyn Wieber....I agree with them all....the top 24 should go to the all around....not 2 per team!
-
This is slightly OT, but nobody has (to my knowledge) mentioned the very beginning of the Opening Ceremonies where they talked about "Centuries of Beautiful Minds--William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Jane Austen, Charles Darwin, JOHN LENNON, PAUL MCCARTNEY"!!!!

I saw that too...very cool.

Lots of Beatles references, like all the guys in the Sgt. Pepper outfits, She Loves You (video was from the '63 Royal Command Performance "the rest of you, just rattle your jewelry"), and of course Arctic Monkeys doing Come Together (if slightly off-key!)
-
I thought the Monkeys were pretty good...but I like covers...

Wasn't that great? They had a black and white shot of Paul and John, as well as all of the other great minds...absolutely awesome.

I saw an internet item naming them along with the Who for the opening ceremony - which didn't happen. Martin
Thanks Martinput. We'll have to see if the Spice Girls rumors are true. Tell me what you want! What you really really want!!!!!!!!! Or how about Paul, the Who, Stones, heck why not everybody at one event?!?!?!?!?! Wishful thinking, I know..........

I also enjoyed that Live and Let Die part. Really been catching that with some diving and swimming last night as well. Wonder what will happen with Phelps for the rest of the events? Kinds of feels like seeing Superman under the spell of red Kryptonite.

You're not off topic at all..........according to the thread title. I mentioned the photos of john and paul on page one ...the first few minutes that I watched on nbc of their presentation of the opening events... were absolutely awesome!!!

Shin A Lam (Korea Republic) was royally screwed over in the Women's Individual Epee (fencing) semifinal. The clock showed one second left, and after the fourth restart when her German opponent Britta Heidermann finally scored the winning touch the clock still showed one second remaining. Apparently the timing mechanism on the piste (playing area/stage) became stuck, which the officials acknowledged but because there are no official regulations in place to deal which such matters they felt obliged to award the victory to Heidermann. After having watched a full replay I was heartbroken seeing Shin bawling her eyes out at the injustice. She finally had to be led off the piste by two officials who were threatening to carry her off if she did not leave voluntarily. To make matters worse she had to return minutes later to contest for the bronze medal. Needless to say, she lost.

Those hit hard ..... you train and train and miss by .00000003 of a second ..... or 4th place .... no gold, silver, or bronze. False starts and judge points ...... you get a 9.9 and someone gets .000001 better .... The difference between 1st and 4th can be micro seconds .... milli seconds etc .... Someone will have an outstanding performance ... but their left toe was ever so slightly bent ..... interesting to watch .... the above can make or break someone so easily.
