Okay, I need some help here: What was these dresses about? Who were the faces and why? I've been googling like a good'n to no avail yet.. I might have to rewatch the parade again as Hazel Irvine on the BBC presentation did make passing reference to the dresses but I missed the detail. Martin
The faces appearing on the dresses are those of Olympic volunteers.

That seems to gel with what I heard during the broadcast. Thanks. I wonder if any of this is published anywhere - such as a souvenir programme given out at the event...? Martin

Loved Pink Floyd's Eclipse playing through the fireworks and closing video montage - great choice.
Agreed but pity they weren't playing it live! Btw....a brief snatch from Time was played earlier in the evening.

The whole sound track to the event, both live segments and the filmed sequences echoed my own personal life track. The "Time" bits were in the flying sequence from the Source of the Thames to the Stadium as the viewpoint passed the Clock Tower of the Houses Of Parliament (Commonly known as, albeit incorrectly, as Big Ben) The soundtrack's familiarity and subtle placing is very much why the whole event worked for me. That flying sequence had snatches of The Sex Pistols God Save The Queen and The Jam's Going Underground to match the visual sequence. I'll look out the leaked soundtrack list again as it was in this manner that this music was used - even the momentary Tardis noise at another point in the show. I'll find the link if it still exists. Here you go: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/music/4378971/The-winners-iPodium.html The list was right, but the secret and power came from how it was used. Most were just fleeting powerful snippets. Martin

Martin, thanks for the list link. Some must have been very fleeting as i don't recall hearing them at all. ops:

And for those who may have missed this in the opening ceremony:
Too bad they didn't have Paul play with all the peppers walking about.
-
There seems to be...at least a few...moptop haircuts in the sgt. pepper parade!

I loved the way the music was used...very powerful almost subliminal.

The whole program worked so well for me because British music is my music too. And with a lifelong interest in British literature and history feels like I was born British in my other life So I felt that sense of pride that must have been felt by the locals. Only thing I'm not so crazy about is British food except for tea & scones...I could live on those

Wasn't the music great? I was on a website yesterday that was giving gold medals to the musicians who were featured, depending on how many of their songs were used during the ceremony. Paul and David Bowie won gold medals for having four of each of their songs used.

Just a passing thought: In a George Orwellian Animal Farm way some Olympic medals must be surely be more equal than others: Take the medals won today in the Women's Road Race. Three and a half hours and 140km (87 miles) in the pouring rain, even thunder and lightening was reported during the final kilometre. The Men's Road Race was even longer - 250 km (155 miles) 5hrs 45 minutes but at least they had fair weather. What's so special about 100mtrs in 10 seconds? Martin

Have seen a few events here in the US. I always seem to make an excuse to watch some of it. Saw the whole opening ceremony as well (mainly for some guy named Paul McCartney.....) Here's a silly question I have: Is it true that the Spice Girls are doing the closing ceremony? Guilty pleasure of mine but I was always a Mel B kind of guy myself. Googled a pic of them and they have all held up very well.

I saw an internet item naming them along with the Who for the opening ceremony - which didn't happen. Martin

Seems a bit quieter round here tonight. You'd think people would all be discussing in the Olympic thread.

McCartney, do you use Comcast (or another Cable/DISH company)? If so, you can watch all 32 sports, all 302 events, all live online. A very simple process: Click on Comcast (or the appropriate company), sign in with your regular Comcast (or other) account password, watch the live stream! In addition, they also offer tablet and mobile applications... http://www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/

The BBC as host broadcaster has it's own comprehensive web-coverage here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/2012/ I appreciate you might not be allowed the streaming content but there's loads of text and tables to read there. This is the games official web-pages: http://www.london2012.com/ Both equally comprehensive. Martin
