Meeting Paul at VIP Sound Check
-
Does anyone know if Paul ever invites up fans in NYC VIP shows? DC? Is it less likely to happen at the bigger venues? Is he still doing this? I'm trying to figure out which show to purchase VIP tix for. TIA, Terry

It all depends. For example, I met Paul at a VIP soundcheck in Toronto, but only because he was in the mood, and I had a cool sign.

Correct, meeting Paul close up in a personal moment during a VIP soundcheck is very much at Paul's whim. Do not buy VIP expecting such an opportunity it's not included in the package. Generally speaking the VIP visitors are kept at least a block of seats away from the stage as the event is indeed a working soundcheck and Paul and the band have to work to make sure they will bring the best possible show to that nights actual performance. Paul might catch sight of a "cool sign" or interesting person/persons or even might leave the selection to his security officer who can get close to the VIP group. But it's no gimmee that he will invite someone up - depends on time and commitments - esp at overseas events where the promoter might line up local dignitaries for a handshake backstage etc Martin

Am thinking of buying soundcheck tickets. What is the difference between seats in soundcheck vs Gold VIP? Are the Gold VIP tickets worth it?
-
Front Row is row 1 (obviously) side sections-BUT for Boston, front row center was offered. Gold VIP are usually rows 3-5-same merchandise as FR Silver VIP are the rows behind Gold, not sure about merchandise. All SC seats are usually in front of the sound board-Paul asks us how the sound is where we are sitting. If you can swing it do a SC-it is a fabulous experience-all of Paul's "people" are very kind to his fans-especially Shelley and Simone....(and Brian)

You are mixing up Gold VIP with Hot Sound. Seats *during* the soundcheck are farther back by the soundboard, but the seats for the concert itself are rows 3 thru 5 with the Hot Sound Package. Gold VIP are for seats only plus the merch, no soundcheck or dinner. And the Gold seats seem to usually be in rows 7 and 8, at least all the Gold seats I have purchased were in those rows.

imo if meeting Paul is your sole motivation for attending a sound check, then perhaps it is not for you. You will be in a crowd, sometimes lately very BIG crowds. However, if you want to see working musicians preparing for a big show and get yourself a mini concert out of it then yes, do a sound check, they are great experiences and you will meet a lot of kindred spirits in the crowd with you. But Wix walked right up to me at a soundcheck a couple years ago ( to talk to Shelly, who was standing by me), so you never know

Can you tell us about your sign? no, i'm not attending any soundcheck i'm just being curious

I attended the sound check in St. Louis this past November. Paul read signs, but nobody was invited on stage during sound check or during the concert. People behind us at sound check were veterans and about midway through said this is definitely a working sound check and nobody will be going on stage. They were correct. It was still worth it. I have purchased Gold Hot Sound tix just to insure I get a decent seat--and to alleviate stress. Sad it has come to this.

Other than a fan on here from, I think England, I never heard of the front row center sections offered. I didn't know they were offered in Boston. Does anyone know of the center section for the 1st row package being included at any other US shows? I asked Zach who was running one of the sound checks for the fans at one of the shows and he said they give them out, usually at the concert to people sitting in other upper level seats.

Take into consideration, that was the first night of the tour. I'd imagine that's a common occurence for opening nighters.

I don't know about all that...at fedex field I was all the way up and was given "closer" tickets by a staff member. When we went to the seats, we discovered that they were on the corner of the stage, however this meant the corner of the screen, which were actually far worse than or seats up in the 300's.

Neither Shelley nor the other regular were there either. The woman who was in charge of sound check had zero personality. I was told by regulars that she did not get us going like Shelley did or more might have happened.

I made a cool sign for a friend that Paul read outloud in Chicago 2011. It said...I'm a priest...can I perform your wedding? Paul read it it & it was on the screen. (this was during the show though) But still no meeting.

Thanks for the correction nightfish-I did get them mixed up! ops: As far as getting front row center tix-Boston is the first time I have ever seen them pop up-it's always front row side sections. I grabbed seat 1-and other seats in the center section popped up as well-I remember seeing seats 4 and 5 come up. No one ever sits in their front row seats-we all move right up to the rail..the seats are just to hold our stuff... maccascruff-St Louis SC was the worst one I have been to-most of the people were quite boring and not really into it.....Unbelievable!
