Predict Next Setlist

Maybe Denny Laine will make an appearance and paul can break out the Rick.
Keep dreaming!

http://kroq.cbslocal.com/paul-mccartney-interview/ About the setlist: "The set flows very well, it has a good pacing to it. [..] It just works." "There are a couple of new pieces we are looking at [which] we probably have rehearsed by then [US tour]. [..] There will be a few little surprises". Also, he dropped the name of Ringo himself when being asked about any potential guests for the Californian dates. Great interview anyway, McCartney sounds great.
I heard that interview yesterday. Sounds like "Appreciate" and/or "Early Days" could end up in the setlist. But Paul has made it implicitly clear that a concert chock-full of solo-gems just ain't gonna ever happen. I agree that "pacing" is key to a great show, but the encore spots still need an overhaul, granted the recent inclusion of "Hi Hi Hi."

The encores are the biggest problem not only because they haven't changed in awhile, but because he still gets out of this world responses to those songs. The majority of the audience is just so thrilled "way beyond compare" that he's back and making more music for them, that they don't mind hearing Beatles standards time after time. That being said, I do mind a bit. I have no desire to hear Day Tripper or Helter Skelter again this year, but I'm sure I will. Some of them work....I hope the Abbey Road Medley is here for good, it's perfect. Get Back obviously works well too, as does Hi Hi Hi.

Maybe someone will bring a sign saying"PLAY 'BEAUTIFUL NIGHT'!!!" to an upcoming soundcheck, and it'll end up in a show. You can't blame his band, though. They've tried for years to have him play more of his solo stuff.

I'm down with it!....have you invested in your soundcheck package yet?

Afraid not. I'm passing on this leg of the tour. with the exception of the NEW songs, it's the same show as last summer. I'm sure I'll catch a show on the next tour.

Well if you change your mind and end up in Pittsburgh, I've got two extra tickets!

I can ask two buddies of mine who are already going if they need two extra tickets. I'll text them now.

For me it's this part which needs a good shake-up, the very end of the main set: Something Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Band on the Run Back in the U.S.S.R. Let It Be Live and Let Die Hey Jude All stuck since forever, most recent addition comes from 2009. I never cared for the latter 4 songs, obviously I understand those are included in stadium sets, but only a switch with 'Back In The USSR' earlier or something would do wonders. Same as with he did with 'Lady Madonna', stuck in the encore, then dropped, suddenly in the middle piano set, sounded fresh again (for those who got to see the 'Out There!' tour that is).

Yep, without Brian and Rusty at least, we'd never have heard Helter Skelter, Junior's Farm, Come and Get It, Letting Go, etc, etc, etc... If that was a difficult task, getting him to play more solo stuff is damned near impossible. And we probably have Keith Richards to thank for Please, Please Me!

I would like to add Blackbird and Here Today from the acoustic part. That songs are performed since 2002 only paused during US Tour 2005! : And there are All my loving, Let me roll it and Paperback Writer, which could be replaced. Together that's 11 Tracks a nice number to frechen up .

agreed would only need minor changes and would have a positive impact on the show.

Wish he would listen to them, bet they would love playing more different songs.

What irks me a little more than repeated songs is Paul's policy of saying the exact same thing at every concert. He has been giving the "Jimi Hendrix" and "Blackbird" speeches forever. Further, the emotional impact of "Here Today" and "Something" are deflated by the repeated "sincere" tributes that he gives every time. But that s what made The Beatles so special after all - their different personalities played off of each other. Paul's "Mr. Showbiz" was evened out by John's acidic and improvisational nature. You can see that in any footage from a Beatles concert. I love Paul McCartney. He is my favorite musician in The Beatles. My favorite personality will always be John though. I can't picture him saying the same things at his concerts for twelve (12!!!!!!) years in a row. It's a very Wayne Newton/Barry Manilow form of showbiz that kind of turns me off. Luckily.....Paul's tunes speak for themselves.

And, for me, the funny thing is that -- at one time -- I would've scoffed at the idea of Paul doing "Too Many People" or even "Mrs. Vandebilt" in concert. Because of the live versions, they have both become favorites of mine.

The worse part is how people react to songs that are from the solo career. In Indy people got up to leave on "Listen to What the Man Said". Which kills me because it was a major U.S. Hit! I mean major and it doesn't get any applause but the same old "Hey Jude" is loved all over or "Day Tripper" or "Paperback Writer". All in all it really irritates me the way the crowd reacts on solo songs. I'm honestly glad NEW has done well enough to get applause. In my opinion he should drop these songs "Day Tripper" "Paperback Writer" "Here Today" -- please I'm done with it! Find a better song for a tribute... "Early Days"?? Some I know will never leave but I can't stand then "Hey Jude" "Helter Skelter" -- I'd be satisfied if he brung back "Birthday" or "Can't Buy Me Love" (day tripper substitute) &. "The Word" or "I'll Get You" (paperback writer substitute) and added "Early Days" for here today on the U.S. Leg. Or even bring back "She's a Woman" or "You Won't See Me" in Paperback Writer's spot. I would even be satisfied with a full band version of "Fixing a Hole". Or why not add "I'm Down" or "One After 909" to the encore? Also the set has 37 songs -- why not even it out with a bring back of "Junior's Farm", "Coming Up", "Jet", or "Letting Go". Why not even debut "I've Had Enough", "Getting Closer", "Beware My Love" or "Old Siam, Sir" with this band. Always there's the undone Beatles tunes like "Martha My Dear" "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" "That Means a Lot" "Why Don't We Do It In the Road?" "When I'm 64" "Hold Me Tight" "What You're Doing" "Another Girl" "Rocky Raccoon" "Honey Pie" "P.S. I Love You" "Love Me Do" Or even.. "Junk" "Teddy Boy" But we can imagine "Oh! Darling"

Gotta admit: I'm a sucker for "Hold Me Tight" (the Meet The Beatles version, not RRS) -- absolutely love that one.

Much as I'd prefer more variety, this actually doesn't bother me. There are basically 2 sorts of live performers: There are those who like to wing it, improvise, change things around on random impulse (think Dylan and the Grateful Dead), and there are lose who like to be scripted. Paul is the latter -- always has been and always will be. Hell will freeze over before that basic approach changes, and I'm at peace with it (much as I still want the set list to include Friends to Go, Beautiful Night, etc.).
