A very intelligent black slave named James Armistead was able to be amongst British General Cornwallis and those strategizing war movement in Yorktown Va. Because he was a slave, he was not even considered, as they planned moving in 10,000 troops. Sending a message to Geo. Washington's Marquis de Lafayette, they were able to move troops and thwart the British, causing surrender. In spite of that, he was not emancipated after the war, since he was a slave!! (Must have been Trumps early relatives making that decision :wink Eventually 6 years later when Marquis de Lafayette found out, he was able to gain his emancipation. Whereupon Armistead took the last name of Lafayette.

Ironically, Trump is only a second generation American. His grandfather and even his mother were immigrants.

Son of the Civil War general? That's pretty cool. Was he mayor or governor? George Sr. was a governor of New Jersey, I think.

I found it as I was reading about the NYC snowstorm and remembered some relative had something to do with Times Square, etc... General George Brinton McClellan, Sr. was a Union general, he ran for President and lost against Lincoln. Was part of the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Then he was into railroads and was Governor of New Jersey. His sister whom I am named after, was my 3rd great grandmother. (From the Brinton/Steinmetz/McClellan families of Philadelphia, Pa.) George Brinton McClellan, Jr. was his son, and Mayor of New York City, and had other political positions. Had no idea! If it were not for the snowstorm I still wouldn't know.
