So sorry to hear you were in the hospital.  How are you doing?  Sending prayers your way Hailey   I will try to find some of your posts to try and get up to speed.  It really sounds like your ordeal.  I love that head nurse for looking out for you!

They sound so sweet, under the circumstances.  Hope you are feeling better!

Thank you for your concern.  I'm much better than I was.  I'm mostly working on stamina right now.  I want to be able to walk around the block without stopping to rest.  With any luck, I'll be able to go back to work after Chinese New Year.

The nurses were great.  The doctors were, too, but I spent more time with the nurses.  The doctors came and went quickly, like men, while the nurses were nurturing and supportive.  Everyone says that nurses are the backbone of any hospital, and it's true.

Good luck finding any posts.  This place is more messed up than I am.

Glad to hear you're doing better.  Stamina can be a tough one, sending prayers your way for increased stamina! You can do it.

Had to deal with a crushed foot injury myself.  A year in a chair and 3 years of pain and limping.  I forced myself off the pain meds early and went onto large dose ibuprofen with food.  Had someone massage my foot every week for 3 years after the bones mended, to get blood into the area.  I got my arch mostly back, which wasn't supposed to happen and out of a sturdy shoe in about 2 1/2 years.  I am now able to run...  It can be an ordeal, however, don't give up.   You get used to the pain and eventually you can get yourself back in to the 90 or so percentage of healing.  I'm not sure how badly you are injured, however, coming from a former bad place myself, I'm rooting for you!! Stay as positive as you can, and keep looking forward!  Treat yourself too.  It's good to hear your progress reports, please keep us updated.  You can do it!!!

Thank you for the support.  I appreciate it.  I stopped praying a long time ago, but it's still nice to have something in that corner.  It's funny how much people concentrate on the physical side of medical issues and discount the power of positive feedback, but I think it can play a major role.  My roommates are my biggest cheerleaders, so I've got people on my side every single day.  I can't imagine how people deal with medical issues without any support system at home.  That's just reason #2400 why nurses are so important.

I'm sorry to hear about your foot.  That sounds like a nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone.  I felt a twinge of pain just reading about it.  I'm a dancer, so foot/leg injuries are my biggest fear.  What you went through would definitely be career ending.  I don't know what I would do.  I'm lucky that I only hurt my brain.  That feels funny to type, but in a car accident, you can easily damage pretty much any body part.  Limbs can be gone in the blink of an eye.  I need mine more than my brain.  Sort of.  I know what I mean.

A friend was in the car with me during the accident and she had to use a wheelchair for a few weeks.  It was nothing as serious as what you went through.  She broke her leg but couldn't use crutches because she also broke both arms.  Getting around Hong Kong in a wheelchair is difficult enough, but I can't imagine doing it without the use of your arms.  You were in a wheelchair for a year?  I'd say that would be impossible in Hong Kong, but there are people who have to do it forever.  Hopefully, wherever you were was more wheelchair friendly.

I have no intention of getting up to less than 100%.  Everyone says I'm pushing too hard, but I've always believed that the only way to make things happen is to actually go out and do it.  No one's dreams come true from sitting on the sofa.  I'm also impatient.  I know, intellectually, I will be dealing with this for a long time.  But I want to be done with it last month.

I can handle the headaches.  You can distract yourself from pain.  There are also a lot of drugs out there.  For me, the lack of stamina is much worse.  I've spent most of my life exercising.  I need to move.  I need to go outdoors and run.  Swimming is one of my favorite things in the world, but my doctor won't even let me do that yet.  The other restrictions are easier to deal with.  No alcohol or spicy food?  No problem.  No sex?  Not an option anyway.  No strenuous activity?  We need to negotiate on that one.

Someone gave some money to a midwest police department a few years ago so that they could pull over 50 people each Christmas time and give them a card with $100 in it. It makes your eyes water to see people's reactions. This should be more popular everywhere!  🙂

That did give me tears too!!! Wish that could happen everywhere!!

Hailey, if I was close to you, I would definitely offer to pick you up and get you out and about.  That was what seriously got me down, was feeling stuck with no way to get out and to do something normal!!!  You really find out who are your friends.  So glad you have your girlfriends to take care of you!!  You sound determined, that's a big part of the solution!!  I'm rooting for you.  One foot in front of the other and baby steps...  I found my homeopathic nurse friend to be of the most help!  She tackled things with non conventional methods.  In China, they must also do that too, no?   I'll be praying for you for a total healing.  Hope you are finding some improvements!

Police in Minnesota have been pulling good drivers over during Thanksgiving/Christmas to give them vouchers for groceries/turkeys for years.

A long time ago, in a different millennium, I was in the car with my mother.  I was too young to know anything about driving, but old enough to know that she was a cautious driver who would never dare go one mile over the speed limit.  When the police pulled her over, I was in shock.  If they could pull her over, what hope was there for anyone else?  Then the officer thanked her for driving responsibly and gave her a voucher for Byerlys.  Maybe it was Lunds.  They were separate companies at the time.

My first thought was, “Free candy”.  But she gave the voucher to the church.  So I got nothing.  Except a lesson that driving like a decent human is more than just a good idea.

Most/many Chinese hospitals have a Western system and a separate wing for traditional Chinese medicine.  The Western side always seems to follow European/American models.  The traditional side is all about qi rather than ABCs.

I like Chinese medicine in theory.  A lot of it makes sense.  Roots and herbs have to be better for you than chemical drugs.  Massage and exercise are also important components, which is never a bad thing.  What I don't like is the reliance on endangered animal parts.  I doubt tiger bones will cure your rheumatism or that rhino horns will cure your fever.  And deer penis?  Come on.  Whoever came up with that clearly had issues.

A lot of people swear by acupuncture, but it's never done anything for me.  Maybe I'm just too conditioned to western drugs.

But there is a cough syrup made with a few roots and a little opium that is just the greatest.

Hailey, hope you are feeling and doing better !  It's so interesting to hear about the Chinese medical system.

The Chinese system is definitely different, that's for sure.

Changing the world is pretty easy.  Most of mankind's problems are caused by man.  If we all simply followed the Golden Rule, most of those problems would disappear.  I think Paul wrote a song about that.
