'Paul is dead' prankster and Detroit rock visionary Russ Gibb dies at 87
-
Russ Gibb has passed. wasn't sure where this went on the board so admins, please move at your own discretion please and thank you.
For those of you in the not-know, Russ Gibb was from Michigan and responsible for promiting the rumors of Paul is Dead though the Identity of the caller who first called him is still a mystery. Many of my old hippie friends actually knew him and are grieving him right now remembering fondly the shows he worked on and those posters....wow. some of the best of 60s art.
Yeah, part of me still blames him for PID but ....

Why did he ever start the rumour in the first place? He may've thought it a prank, but for some it caused some real grief. Especially little kids like I was. I thought my hero had died. Kids take things literally and believe anything on TV or newspapers. So, I remember that time as painful.

Read the link Jimmix posted. Some kid called the radio station and Russ Gibb ran with it.

It all started when John put the reel to reel tape in backwards and they started using tracks played backwards. When John backmasked "I buried Paul" at the end of a song, it was just him digging at Paul. John was implying before that Paul had lost The Beatle spirit and that his attitude had died. And, then of course, it turned into everything else. Paul is actually ONE in a BILLION. The odds of someone replacing Paul are ZERO.

We all know that story is not true. John was saying “cranberry sauce” and nothing there was backmasked.
People started playing stuff backwards, like the gibberish on the White Album before Blackbird. When played backwards it sounded like “Paul is dead miss him miss him miss him.” Then there was the “Number 9, Number 9” at the beginning of Revolution #9. When played backwards it sounded like “Turn me on, dead man.” I was 13 then and compiled a huge list of all the crap and disputed ones like the VW Beetle with the license plate 28IF. No, morons, Paul was 27 in 1969, not 28. The list goes on!

I watched and listened to all of The Beatle history unfold in real time. I never for a moment thought that Paul had been replaced by anyone. Like I said, there was nitpicking back and forth in many different ways in the music. Typical brother stuff.
Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) 74 years old. He was a classy very intelligent Gentlman.

Sorry to hear the news about Peggy Lipton's death. She had an interesting life, including being a "Beatle girl" for a short time. I watched an episode of "Who do you think you are?" where her daughter Rashida tried to find out more about Peggy's Jewish ancestry and family during the holocaust, was very interesting. Hope she didn't suffer long or was in a lot of pain.

I just read about this when I got up! So sad! It is already noted in Wikipedia:
Death
Lipton revealed that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004 and was treated for it.[24] On May 11, 2019, her two daughters announced that she had died from the disease
