@njr I am so very sorry Nancy.
Thank you my friend. The last year was awful for us, but I take comfort that her suffering is over now.
Watching a parent's health decline is tough. My mom had a really rough death from COPD. My dad had it easier, but suffered some dementia the last few years -- happily, he still knew us and knew who he was, even if he couldn't remember anything that happened 10 minutes before. Hang in there, Nancy. It seems like your mom had a pretty good life, and you'll always have the memories.
MAF came out just as my dad's health was going into its final decline, and "The End of the End" always choked me up. Paul's attitude in that song -- "On the day that I die, I'd like jokes to be told" -- was so much like my dad it was eerie.
Thanks for your kind words Bruce. My dad passed in 2016, just shy of 90 years old, also from COPD. But he was sharp as a tack until the very end.
I want to have “In My Life” played at her service. I was thinking about “The End Of The End” too. My mom was also a Beatles fan and was my “enabler!” She went with me to see Paul in 1976, 1990 and 1993.
I begged her to take me to Cleveland Stadium in 1966 to see The Beatles (I was 11 and it was a 25 mile drive) She said “We’ll go next year.” I never let her live that one down.
She was the best and everyone she met loved her.I must state for the record that, if my next of kin choose to have any sort of funeral for me, I have requested that it conclude with playing Leslie Gore's

@bruce-m That would be a hoot! I’m not sure everyone would appreciate it, but I would!
I’m having a guy who sang at my 2nd wedding (we’re divorced, but still remain in contact for big life events) sing Tears In Heaven, You’ll Never Walk Alone and Morning Has Broken. (they gave me a list to choose from) After the service they said we could play the original CD of The Beatles “In My Life” as everyone walks out.
And the words to “The End Of The End” will be printed on the left inside cover of the program. -

Fun fact: When Elizabeth Taylor died, she left written instructions that she had to arrive half an hour late to her own funeral.

@bruce-m I meant that if I was at your funeral I would appreciate it and laugh. And how do you know you won’t be able to “be there?” Nobody really knows what happens when we die.
And, yes, I suppose I am taking this seriously right now since my mom just died 12 days ago! -
TOMMY SMOTHERS ONE HALF OF THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS DIES AT 86
This interview with Tommy Smothers came from the book Ticket to Ride by Denny Somach
Q: Now you were part of another episode in the story. You were at the bed-in strumming along to "Give Peace a Chance," right?TS: The Montreal Bed-In for Peace. Dr. Timothy Leary was there, as well as a whole group of people at the time who were hanging around. They were laying in bed, Yoko and Lennon , and we spent about three days up there, just partying and having a good time.
They had all these mikes set up there and they gave me a guitar. I remember this distinctly -- he was playing "Give Peace a Chance" and we were all sitting around the bed singing. He was playing a lower open chord formation, so I went up and did the next chord inversion and I was playing a couple of passing chords. We were singing along and all of a sudden he stops and says, "Hey, play what I play. Play exactly what I play. I want it to sound that way."
I said, "Sorry I thought I was filling in some of those chords. Of course, he's a pretty good musician. I've been playing for a while, but he liked that doubling of the sound of the guitars on that particular song.
Then later on, a poster came out with Lennon, Leary and I and Yoko on the bed there I said, "Oh my goodness! I'm being immortalized with the Beatles!"

Tommy Smothers was a genuine comic genius, and the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour was the best thing on TV at the time. The CBS censors had no clue about that they had, or what they were giving up.

@jimmix I loved “Starsky & Hutch!” Watched every episode. And David’s song “Don’t Give Up On Us” was wonderful! R.I.P. David!
