Jackie Loughery, ‘The D.I.' Actress and Wife of Jack Webb, Dies at 93
Fun fact: During my misspent youth, I worked for 2 years as a server at The Smoke House restaurant, near the Burbank Studios. Jack Webb was a regular at lunch. He drank. A lot. He always ordered Crown Royal and water, and I never saw him have fewer than 7 -- and sometimes 8 or 9 -- before having a bite to eat. And all he would get for lunch was a shrimp cocktail. Amazingly, he showed no visible effects (if I had that much to drink, I'd be horizontal -- even when I was young and spry). Not a surprise that he died of a heart attack at age 62. I can only assume his liver was pretty well pickled as well.

@bruce-m Wow! Amazing how some people are so dumb - he could have lived another 30 years!

And so could Richard Burton, who died at 59 after having spent a good portion of his adult life downing two bottles of booze a day. Don't worry, I am not calling for a return of Prohibition and certainly don't mind the occasional nip now and then myself, but too much too often will literally kill you.

Steve Lawrence, Grammy-Winning Pop Stylist and Actor, Dies at 88
Lawrence’s smooth stylings were heard on dozens of solo albums, starting in 1953 with an eponymous LP. In 1963, he topped the Billboard Hot 100 with the Gerry Goffin-Carole King pop ballad “Go Away Little Girl.” The single became the first in history to reach No. 1 by two different artists after Donny Osmond recorded his version in 1971. Goffin & King, two songwriters Lennon & McCartney wanted to be.
He was the Blues Brothers manager, Maury Sline in "The Blues Brothers" (Universal-1980)

Sorry to speak ill of the dead, but I always found Steve Lawrence just intolerable. The last straw was seeing Steve and Eydie massacre "All You Need Is Love" on some late-sixties TV show. I was about 13 and it was all I could do to not set fire to my parents' television.

Eric Carmen, Raspberries Frontman and ‘All by Myself’ Singer, Dies at 74
While mostly known as a balladeer, in his early years the Cleveland-born musician was the primary singer and songwriter of the Raspberries, who rebelled against the heavy, glam and progressive-rock scenes of the early ’70s and threw back to the Beatlesesque pop they were raised on. Carmen was not only a deft (if deliberately derivative) songwriter but also a full-throttle rock and roll shouter in the Paul McCartney/ Steve Marriott tradition, and the author of several classic songs of the genre, including the band’s highly suggestive first and biggest hit, “Go All the Way,” as well as “I Wanna Be With You,” “Let’s Pretend,” “Tonight” and “Overnight Sensation.”
Composed by Eric Carmen

@jimmix I loved Eric Carmen & The Raspberries! Saw one of their shows in Cleveland (where they and I were from) in probably 1972 or 1973. R.I.P. Eric!
