Paul McCartney's 40 Greatest Solo Songs
-
According to Rolling Stone magazine - http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/paul-mccartneys-40-greatest-solo-songs-w493547 The first thing that leaps out is how criminally underrated "Mull of Kintyre" is on this list. #37? RS ranks "The Back Seat of My Car," "Angry" amongst many others higher than that. 2/3 of the list, 27 songs in all were recorded in the 70s.

Lists like this are so subjective it's not worth arguing over. Personally, I find some of the choices -- and the order --pretty bizarre, but I'm okay with "Maybe I'm Amazed" as #1.

Just saw this pop up on the Internet. Assume that this is a new one. It was 3 writers that did the compilation but they definitely started off on the wrong foot. They called Maybe I'm Amazed..."Baby I'm Amazed". The article lost all credibility for me right from the start. Still wondered what others may feel about their list. Maybe someone can post the actual article here. My biggest criticism as usual is that so many great songs from Tug of War onward was missing. They of course had many of the predictable one (the bigger hits) and most of those were justified. Still there were many that were listed but not as the level of the Solo songs I think are vastly superior. I replied back and gave them an alternative 40 list that I said was as good or even a little better. If you see the article, you will see me listed in the "Replys" section at the end of the article.

I thought the list was well written, the short reviews hit the nail on the head so to speak. But to see Four Five Seconds on this list of Paul's "40 Greatest Songs" is ridiculous, especially while acknowledging he's barely on it. I have to roll my eyes at that one. :

Well, I really, really loved this article. As beatlesfanrandy stated, it was well written, and I loved reading it. As a huge, huge Wings Fan, of course I would like to get my two cents in. Here goes Back Seat of My Car at #34!! Should be in the top ten, easy!! RAM is not only a great McCartney album, its a great album period!! Say Say Say at #31 Holy Batman. Sorry Paul, but I really, really disliked this song from Pipes Of Peace. Goodnight Tonight at #28 A nice song, maybe at #40, but in the Top Thirty?? Listen To What The Man Said at #23 Please. In the summer of 1975, this song was played on Top 40 stations, hard rock stations, adult stations, etc. One of Wings GREATEST songs ever!! Would have felt comfortable on The White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be.. You Gave Me The Answer at #21 I really, really hate this song. Paul should have replaced this song on Venus And Mars with Juniors Farm or Soily. 1985 at #16 Are you kidding me?? Top 5 at best, if not #1!! Silly Love Songs at #15 What????? Please. This is one of the greatest songs ever. Yes, ever. It was such an INTERNATIONAL hit in 1976 and sold more single .45's than Hey Jude. Was also the #1 song of 1976. Band On The Run The second greatest song of the 1970's!! Sorry all, but this song surpasses anything The Beatles ever recorded, accept for maybe Hey Jude and Yesterday!! Just saying! And where in the heck is Let "em In???
