So, get your best running shoes, don't wear a white bucket hat (Bonnaroo left-pit joke) and guys, get a large bottle. Good luck ladies.
guys, please don't chuck those bottles into the air.
Not planning on it! Us on the board would never think about doing that. We aren't Europe after all!

I've not been to Outside Lands before, so no first hand experience here, but I was at Coachella when Paul headlined in 2009. It wasn't so bad then, the main stage area got crowded when popular bands played but the fans left when they were done and then they "recycled". I was with my family so no waiting in all day lines -- but we still got a decent spot equal to about halfway back on the floor of an arena show. From what I've read the VIP area has a special viewing area to the side of the stage (not as crowded but not front row either) and offers shade, comfortable waiting areas and nicer bathrooms. Typical SF weather would suggest shade is not necessary, but better facilities is a plus! I'll be in GA with extended family and friends (not my usual "Paul friends"), but hope we can get a decent viewing spot and that everyone has a good time. Would love to include a meet up with other boardies or fans that decide to make the trek to SF -- just send me a PM!

good! Wine Lands booze better not make anyone think differently! ok so a friend of mine just told me that the main stage crowd last year for Jack White wasn't too bad. got a bit squishy, but not unbearably pushy. phew!!! but gonna keep my fingers crossed just in case. sorry if I've scared anyone with my stories!

a meetup would be nice! maybe on a day when Paul's not headlining?

I don't know, this time could be different. The main stage lineup that day was amazing...Macklemore to kick off, and later OK GO, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, and of course Muse! Maybe this year will be a bit calmer...or maybe that's wishful thinking. :
They have the daily lineups sorted now: http://lineup.sfoutsidelands.com/?sort=day I have little to no knowledge of these artists or how popular they are...anybody? Does it look like it's going to be a smushed day at the main stage?

Band of Horses, The National and Pretty Lights are all pretty popular. The National and Band of Horses are somewhat similar (as in...both indie rock bands). But Pretty Lights is a DJ/electronic act (just one guy, I think) who draws a big crowd. I would guess that the crowd who loves Pretty Lights will be less interested in Paul. I've seen all three live and they should all be pretty entertaining leading up to the main event...so that's the good news. I will say I'm surprised The National is billed above Band of Horses... I think the latter is more popular. But, what do I know?
-
For what it's worth...even though they're popular, none of those sub-headliners come close to the popularity of The Black Keys. Even several years ago... So it may be a bit less cut throat leading up to Paul.
-
F*ck it! I think I'm going to Outside Lands. 100,000 20-somethings in California, Paul's biggest attendence of the world tour. Never been to California, never seen a proper festival, never seen Paul at a festival nor any concert in front of 100,000 people. Missed Bonnarro, it's now or never.
-
I'm assuming the headliners of the day are last to go on? Now that single day tickets are going on sale tomorrow, we're going to go on Friday!

Agreed. I think Saturday or Sunday will be tougher at the main stage leading up to the headliner. There is also a smaller main stage where the other well known bands play. I feel bad if someone has to go up against Paul. Last year it was Metallica at the main stage, Sigur Ros (from Iceland I think?) at the other stage. We started at Metallica then went to check out Sigur Ros. Sigur Ros was quiet and mellow but we could hear booms and see lights (and fire!) from Metallica so we went back there.
-
Got tickets today for Friday! So glad they decided to release single day tickets.
-
Also remember there are 3 stages I think so they all won't be on the same stage. I like the National a lot and Band of Horses, so I hope they are on the same stage. And the weather will be cold, then warm, maybe hot, and then cold again at night. layers is the key at this kind of thing. I hope some of us will meet up in line. and maybe even share a spot near each other once we get in.

YEEEEEEE it's official - I'm finally gonna see Paul!!!!! My brother bought my Friday ticket while I was stuck in traffic driving to work, and I didn't want to post on the thread until I saw my ticket receipt

The National are more well known and have been around longer than Band of Horses, who I love. Seems like most of the artists who are gonna draw in big crowds (NIN, RHCP, Phoenix, etc.) are scheduled for Sat and Sun. The National and Band of Horses don't seem to have a mosh crowd...but I'm making an assumption based on their music. Pretty Lights should be at another stage. Girl Talk performed on a separate stage from Muse in 2011. I'm a little bummed about the Friday lineup because I really wanted to see Thao and Gary Clark Jr. (both Saturday) but they're easy to catch live and I've already seen Thao. I'm really happy about Band of Horses on Friday and *HOPE* they'll play on the Lands End Stage.

Yes please! The day will go by faster when there's people to talk to. here's a bad pic of me http://25.media.tumblr.com/cbf31e4ea30cb5d910ce0c8ca322fa88/tumblr_mhy3b5Z0mH1qze1h1o1_500.jpg I'll need someone to save my spot when I grab food, and of course I'll do the same for others. Bonnaroo folks......Paul and James didn't perform together at all, right? I thought it'd be nice to see him play with Paul, but it seems like James wants to separate himself from his father's act, which is understandable.

Today I booked my flight and my hotel which is not in the greatest area but its cheap and a sleep for one night. I've been reading previous years peeps experiences about weather, walking etc. but since we will be parked at one stage all day we won't be experiencing that. the walking I meant not the weather. If anyone knows any place to get a drink after the festival I will be so game. I won't be consuming during the day but I think after I survived the event and my legs haven't given out and Paul has delivered a helluva performance I will be ready to chill and have a drink or two. I'm not a youngster and this is something that is going to take a lot out of me. But I am determined to do this and have one great day!

The website says that the music has to end at 10:00 PM so I'm guessing Paul will be from 7:00-10:00

I'm wondering this too. Bought VIP, but all my friends have GA so now I'm thinking I want to do front row instead of VIP area. Has anybody done VIP before?
-
I'm in, and VIP-ing it. Excitement is building!
-
We got single-day tix and re-routed our road trip. Looking forward to it.

I'm looking at a map from 2012.
