Outside Lands, San Francisco, CA, 9 - 11th August - ARCHIVE

Paul will be headlining OUTSIDE LANDS!
-
-
Okay TOO MUCH EXCITEMENT FOR ONE DAYYYYYYY!!!! I'll be there!
-
Are there any boardies who would be interested in doing the VIP cabana? They include admission for 20 people for all three days and you don't have to fight the festival crowds. With 20 people the cost would be approximately equivalent to a three day general admission pass. If any one is interested please PM me and I'll see if we can get enough people to make this work.
-
I may be in for that Bernie! I'll PM you in a few hours. At work now.
-
I just spoke to Janine at Outlands who handles the VIP cabanas.... YIKES!!!!!! I was greatly mistaken on the price of the cabanas! They are renting for $35,000! Yes, that is no mistake. I had heard that they rented for around $4500 thus my initial enthusiasm. At that rate I think the cabana idea is out of reach. Sorry!
-
James McCartney on the line-up too!

Yikes that is insane! thanks for checking on all that though! Not sure if I will do Outside Lands, too many folks trying to get to the best spots I can imagine the chaos and getting smushed.

I wonder what day Paul is actually playing? ops:
-
Outside Lands is a great festival...I'm so excited that Paul is playing it, and it's so cool that James is playing too! In case anyone is curious, last year they announced the daily lineup on July 18, then released more tickets for sale (including single day tickets) on July 20 for the August 8-10 festival. Single day general admission tickets were $95 and single day VIP tickets were $210. I love Outside Lands and have been there 3 out of the last 4 years, so if you have questions, let me know! I like it much better than Coachella, mainly because it's never blazing hot...but they also have a fantastic selection of food because they offer a "Taste of the Bay Area," and the majority of the food stands are from local San Francisco restaurants. Can't wait!
-
I've never been to Outside Lands, but I lived 2 blocks from Golden Gate Park till a few years ago and would offer one small caution: Getting to and from the festival can be a major pain. Don't even think about parking anywhere nearby, and public transit on the major nearby streets gets totally overwhelmed. Not a deal-killer if you really want to go, but have no illusions about getting in and out of there fast.

Honestly, I've always stayed with friends who are walking distance from Golden Gate Park, so I don't really know how to get there. Check out information from last year's festival here: http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/festival/gettingthere-park.php The Festival is in the part of the park generally between 36th and...maybe 25th? There is 1 entrance on the north side of the park and 1 on the south side of the park. It's pretty crazy trying to get away from the park after the festival ends for the night...be ready to walk many blocks away (or wait a long time) to get on a bus or a taxi.

Thanks for the info! If I decide to go I may wait until they announce the day Paul is playing and get a ticket for just that day. Don't think I can take a whole weekend of being smushed in with thousands of other people. I wonder how fast the day tickets go.

Now formally announced by Paul as well on the main site: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/27511-paul-confirmed-to-headline-outside-lands-festival-in-san-francisco Martin
-
No sign of day tickets being available on the festival web-site: http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/tickets/ No day by day break down either of which artist is performing which day. Those familar with the event - which night is considered headline act night? Martin

There's a headliner for each night - so one night is Paul, one night will be Red Hot Chili Peppers, and one night will be Nine Inch Nails. I did notice that Nine Inch Nails are playing a festival in Belgium on August 15, so I would assume they would take the Friday night (August 9th) or Saturday night (August 10th) headline spot. Last year, they didn't originally mention single-day tickets (I assume to boost 3-day pass sales), but they did sell them closer to the event. They also sold single day tickets in 2010...I didn't go in 2011, so I don't remember about that year. You do have to buy a single-day ticket for a specific day.
-
From previous years it looks like the "main" headline act is either Friday or Saturday. Since Paul is top billing I would guess it would be one of those days. My family also wants to see Red Hot Chili Peppers so we will need at least 2 days anyway, so will go ahead and buy the 3-day as soon as they're on sale tomorrow. Don't want to take a chance of any sellout when Paul is involved

Whew. Golden Gate Park in August. It's the coldest, foggiest month of the year. I used to live in the avenues. Bring a coat.

When I was there last year, it was bright and sunny and hot just a few blocks away from the festival, but overcast & chilly at the festival. (I loved it!) So yes - bring a jacket. Last year they also had $5 & $10 lockers for the whole weekend - but you had to reserve them before the festival. They sold out quickly. Hopefully they will have lockers again this year. There's something magical about the fog rolling in at night as the headliner is playing...last year, Metallica was playing, and they all sorts of fire and pyrotechnics. During "Enter Sandman," when they sang "...enter night..." they sent a huge blast of fog from the stage and it just enveloped the crowd in fog, which was amazing considering we were about 200 feet away. It was fantastic, and I don't even listen to Metallica. So excited to see Paul there!
