I'm currently reading PRE:FAB! by Colin Hanton with Colin Hall. Its an excellent book which I hihly recommend to anyone interrested in the Quarry Men / early pre-Beatles era, 1956 to 1958.
Colin Hanton was the drummer with the Quarry Men during this period.
In the book the authors provide some info on that cowboy shirt, which presumably is the same one that Paul is seen wearing in 1969.
The Quarry Men's first manager was Nigel Whalley and in the late Summer of 1957, soon after Paul joined, he purchased (from Eric Levy's drapers shop in Liverpool) for each of the Quarry Men, a cowboy shirt to wear on stage. However, John & Paul would opt for a white jacket and black thin ties outfit and so the cowboy shirts were put away for a few months. It was only when George joined the Quarry Men in December 1957 that the shirts were put into use. When George made his debut with the Quarry Men at an evening dance held at Speke Secondary School in very early January 1958 ( the authors think it may have been Friday the 3rd), John, Paul & George wore the cowboy shirts. George presumably was wearing the shirt purchased for Eric Griffiths, the guitarist who had just left the Quarry Men to make way for George. Although the authors are not 100% certain, they do think that the famous photo of John,Paul and George (along with George's mate, Arthur Kelly) wearing their cowboy shirts was taken during this evenings show.
So the cowboy shirt Paul is seen wearing in 1969 was close on 12 years old. Given its condition it doesn't look as if if it had a lot of wear.

Thanks for all the great info, Kenstrel! He seems to like to keep clothes for a long time, maybe for sentimental reasons, and he could be frugal as well, knowing if there's nothing wrong with the clothes, why throw them away? Remember a few years ago, at the London premiere of Ron Howard's documentary "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week, The Touring Years" Paul wore the same suit jacket he had worn at the premiere of "A Hard Day's Night" in 1964, so it doesn't surprise me that he'd keep a shirt from his Quarry Men days as well

From pics taken in the 1970s, the cowboy shirt has held up very well! Wonder if he still has it ... don't think there's been any confirmed sightings of him wearing it recently, although Nancy posted photos once of him wearing it at different times....

If Paul still has that cowboy shirt then its certainly done well to last over sixty years! I wonder if he's washed it yet?

Let’s ask him if he still has it if we can ever get You Gave Me The Answer to work!

That would be a great question to ask him, Nancy! "What is the oldest piece of clothing that you still have hanging in your closet"

If he still has that cowboy shirt, that would have to be it - it is 61 years old!

Yes, can't think of anything older, unless he saved a hat or a pair of shoes from when he was a schoolboy. It's possible he may still have another jacket or something from his Quarrymen days too.

He might burst into a chorus of 'Vintage Clothes'?

I think Mike took the photos that day. He lived with his dad in that house before he got married in 1968. Here’s another pic:

Great photo, nancy! There also was another on the tumblr page that went with your link.

Do you know what I just thought of? I really think those pics of him in the purple pants were taken either May 16th or 17th of 1967. He met Linda at the Bag O’ Nails on the 15th and the next day when she went back to his house she was told that he went to Liverpool. He was back to London for that photoshoot in the park on the 18th with the other Beatles, then of course the Sgt. Pepper launch party was the 19th.
This is May 18, 1967:

Elementary, my dear Watson. I believe you have correctly deduced the date! (Insert Sherlock Holmes smoking his pipe emoticon here.)

Ruth McCartney, Paul's step-sister, shares memories of Paul's father Jim in this interview:
http://www.classicbands.com/RuthMcCartneyInterview.html
Q - What kind of a guy was Jim McCartney? I hope you don't regard this as a stupid question. But, was he strict? Was he funny? Was he serious? Was he musical?
A - He was all of the above. Very well put. I mean, he was strict with me as a four year old 'cause he wanted me to understand please and thank-you manners and etiquette, just fit into society. Mind my Ps and Qs and say "thank-you" and "May I leave the table?" and put your knife and fork together. Then, he'd sit and play the piano and tell a few jokes and have a cigar on Christmas Day and a glass of cheri and just let loose and have fun. But, he was also very shy. He really wasn't ready for the whole publicity thing that happened to him. We'd wake up in the morning and there'd be fans in the driveway of the house trying to stare through the windows. It kind of freaked him out. (laughs)
That would be scary to always see people looking through the windows! Yikes!
Ruth with stepfather Jim and mother Angie, 1964

Angie was born in Nov. 1929, so she is 89! She still does Facebook podcasts about once a month. So she was 27 years younger than Jim (who does that remind you of?) and was 35 when they married in Nov. 1964 and he was 62. Ruth was born in Feb. 1960 and would have been 4 then. Btw, it was Mike and Bett Robbins (Paul’s cousin) who introduced the two of them.

Yes, I've seen Mrs. McCartney's Teas. Looks like she's done very well with the business and Ruth probably helps her with it. If I was 89 years old, I probably wouldn't be able to manage it all by myself

Lovely McCartney family photo. Paul and Linda with Paul's father Jim and step-mother Angie, Heather, and Paul's Aunt Milly at far left... I'd guess this was taken in 1969.

Nice photo. Amazing to think that Jim was nearly 10 years younger in that photo than Paul is now !!
