Paul's parents, Mary & Jim

This is the photo that appeared with the first post on this thread. It disappeared (but hopefully will be back! ) when changes were made to Paul's Instagram, to announce and promote "Egypt Station."

^ Were you guessing circa 1948? I would put that more like circa 1946 or 1947 at the latest. Mike is definitely not 4 1/2 in that pic.

Yes, was just guessing 1948, that's why I put "circa". It very well could be a year or too earlier.
Happened to find below photo today, (sorry it's so small!) it's supposed to be a photo of Paul's grandmother, Mary Theresa Danaher. I'd post the link, but it's subscription based, and unless you have a paid account, the link won't work. Also found a photo on same page of Paul's mother as a toddler, holding a little doll, but for some reason it doesn't show up here after posting... will try to find another copy of it.
I'm thinking whoever posted the info (a distant relative from Paul's mother's side of the family) could have identified the photos wrong... photo below looks like it was taken after World War I, because of hairstyle and dress... when Paul's mother would have been about 11-12, so it could be a photo of his mother Mary rather than his grandmother. It's possible the subject in the photo could have been a year or two older as well... I'd date the photo 1919-1922. Paul's mother was born September 29, 1909. If it had been a photo of his grandmother, it would have been on a thick cardboard "cabinet card" popular from the 1880s to early 1900s.

Paul’s grandmother was Mary Theresa Danher, born 1877, died 1919. So photo can’t be her if it was taken 1919-1922. So, more than likely it was Paul’s mum, Mary Mohin, who turned 10 in 1919. She had a sister born in 1915 who died in 1918 and another sibling who died in childbirth Jan. 18, 1919, and her mother died too. Her brother Wilfred born 1908, died 1991. Brother Owen Michael (who they called Bill for some reason) was born in 1917 and died in 1970. Also, Paul’s grandfather, Owen Mohin, was born in 1880 and died in 1933. He remarried a woman named Rose who had 2 kids, but they had none of their own. She died in 1948. (Info courtesy of Mark Lewisohn Beatles bio Tune In.)
P.S. When I open up that pic in a new window and enlarge it on my iPad, you can see a name written in cursive at the bottom of the photo. Can’t make out the first name, but the last name just says “S” and it really doesn’t look like Paul’s mum as her nose is way too wide. If I had to guess, the first name looks like Lillian.

Thanks for enlarging the photo, Nancy, and seeing there's writing on it. If it's not his mother, could be a cousin or another relative.
This is the photo I wasn't able to post yesterday, that's supposed to be of Paul's mother as a toddler, and photo name is "Mary at 3". Not sure if that's correct, could also be of his grandmother, Mary Theresa Danher, but the person in the photo does (to me anyway) resemble Paul and his children.

Compare to Paul in late 1942:

Cute babies certainly do run in that family! First thing I noticed is that he still has the same cute nose! lol Exactly the same. Such a sweet little baby boy and so adorable! His daughter Mary looked so much like him and was an adorable baby too!

A nice colorized photo of Paul, mother Mary and brother Mike

March 26, 1966 - another photo of Paul with brother Mike, stepmother Angie and father Jim at the Aintree racecourse, for race featuring "Drake's Drum" (racehorse Paul bought for his father.)

Paul's father Jim playing the piano. One of his sisters is pictured with him.

Thought this was an interesting article, but don't understand the author's reasoning as to why he feels the songs (with the exception of "When I'm 64") were influenced by Paul's father. Maybe he's just meaning Paul's father gave him an appreciation of music and musical instruments, and that shows up in a lot of his songs.
Paul said in an interview once that the original lyrics of "Eleanor Rigby" had Father McCartney instead of Father McKenzie, but he changed that... so that's another song that received inspiration from his Dad.

The Beatles: Paul McCartney, His Father's Influences
There are many songs Paul McCartney wrote to pay tribute to his father’s style of music. Most of the songs in the Beatles catalogue can be easily distinguished as a tribute to his father. Paul McCartney once had a trumpet given by his father which he traded for an acoustic guitar. His father played piano and trumpet. James "Jim" McCartney, Paul’s father is also responsible for sending Paul McCartney to a school so he could study music but Paul McCartney still chose to play by ear just like his father.

Photo of Paul's mother Mary McCartney resting on her favorite clock.
Don't want to forget to add that September 29 was her birthday, she would have been 99 years old.

Artwork by Cynthia Lennon of young Paul with his parents and brother, created in the 1980s
(1 of 4 companion pieces of all the Beatles as children with their parents.. will put images of all four pieces in The Beatles Picture Thread)

That is another coincidence about Paul’s mum being born Sept. 29th and Linda was born Sept. 24th. (And of course the other important person in his life who was also a Libra was John, who also died young)

I've read that Geminis and Libras most always get along very well. That was probably very fortunate for Paul that three of the closest connections he's had in his life were with Libras. I'm a Scorpio, but the best friends I've ever had and had the most meaningful conversations with, were Geminis and Libras. They're always very down to earth, and a lot of fun with a great sense of humor, and very creative, yet very kind and sensitive as well.

Paul's Auntie Jin (sister of his father Jim McCartney). Photo taken by Linda, 1984, and posted on her official Instagram. I wonder if that's her Rice Pudding that Linda wrote about, that Paul liked so much. (Somehow it looks like a dinner/main entree dish though).

^ Never saw that pic before! Oh, and it’s “Gin” short for Virginia. Forever immortalized in “Let ‘Em In!”

Yes, that's what I thought too. Was just going by the spelling on the caption from Linda's official Instagram.

Well, whoever is doing her Instagram spelled it wrong. All the lyrics to the song say “Gin.”

Was watching the Paul McCartney/Albert Maysles docoumentary "The Love We Make," and there was a scene near the beginning where Paul said, "My father never wanted to have his picture taken... he said it was because he didn't like the way he looked [as he became older]" I think his father Jim always looked very handsome and distinguished, even into older age!
