OMG the concert was the greatest! Paul played my two favorite songs "All My Loving" and "Another Day". I loved the concert so much I'm going again tonight lol! I was in section 8, and Paul Simon and Steve Buscemi were 5 rows in front of me lol. And Cameron Diaz was in the section to my right lol. But I wasnt here to see them, I was there to see Paul! What a GREAT concert! I left my camera home and used my iphone to take pics and small videos. Its so hard to do when you're enjoying a great concert that they came out crappy lmao! BTW thanks so much for the pics everyone. Much better than mine lmao

The film was too good to NOT record--much better than the one that has been shown the last few years!

Very nice. I'm still working on the FB photo album, btw. Another friend of mine not on FB can't see the photos, either...so odd!

It's great to see that after all this time that Paul is every bit as good as good as ever and his fans are too.

Mike Portnoy meets Paul McCartney: My Story **WARNING: FANBOY ALERT!!!** Well, what can I say... Something I've been waiting to do for 46 years, finally happened! If you saw my Tweets/Facebook posts from Saturday night, you know what I'm talking about...(it's days later and I still can't get this shit-eating grin off my face!) There's very few musicians that can transform me into "fan boy" (and I've met and hung with hundreds of em)...but this was THE BIG ONE for me... I can honestly say I finally checked off the BIG #1 spot of my Bucket List!! Yes, meeting Sir Paul McCartney was probably the biggest, unobtained goal/achievement/dream that I still hadn't fulfilled... I've been lucky enough to have already met so many of my other heroes from that elite list: Ringo Starr, Roger Waters, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, Neil Peart, Brian Wilson...but Sir Paul still remained! (now only Pete Townshend still remains...) I must first give thanks to the man who single-handedly made this happen for me: Paul's amazing drummer and all-around awesome dude Abe Laboriel, Jr. Abe and I have known each other via emails/texts/tweets for a few years now just out of mutual drumming admiration...and he knew how much of a Beatles fanatic I am and that I really wanted to meet Paul (even just for a split second handshake) Abe informed me that I was in luck....normally Paul "does an Elvis" and splits straight from the stage after each each show...but being they were in NY for a 2-nighter, he was having a private party after the show for "friends and family"...and he put me and Melody on the list! The party was held in a private area of the venue...fully catered, open bar...but it was very intimate...no more than 50 people or so in attendance. As I looked around I was surrounded by such stars as Paul Simon, Cameron Diaz, Steve Buscemi, Fred Armisen, Lorne Michaels...many of which I mingled with....talking w Fred Armisen about his GENIUS Jens Hannemann Drum DVD...introducing Melody to Mr.Pink (aka Nuckie Thompson), etc And then Paul came in... The thing that immediately blew my mind was how unbelievably approachable he was (granted these were his friends and family), but Abe even prepped me beforehand telling me that he will talk to you...and not to be intimidated or shy to engage him a bit...(I probably normally would've been very conscious of giving him his space and wouldn't have asked for more than 30 seconds of his time if Abe hadn't told me this) I approached him and introduced myself. I wasn't very specific about who I was or what I did...I just said my name and said I was "a drummer friend of Abe's"... (Let's face it, my credentials and achievements are so minuscule to even try to justify myself or what I've done in his presence...I didn't even go there!) I thanked him for an incredible show and for making me cry like a baby several times throughout the show (which I'm not afraid to admit...when he did "Here Today" for John and "Something" for George, I literally wept both times) So after lots of small talk: how I saw Wings in 76, how awesome the new band is, how he sounds better than ever, the setlists have been great every tour, etc etc...I was thinking, hmmm...what do I really want to know from him that I don't already know?? And it dawned on me, there was indeed something: so I asked him what the hell is going on w Let It Be on video/DVD/Blu-ray And we talked about that for a few minutes...he said there's been technical and legal reasons its been tied up all these years (didn't go into details), but that it is indeed happening and finally in the pipeline for a release soon..and told me about all of the incredible hours and hours of unused footage there is (and I told him most of us hardcore fans know about and have it!) But it was pretty surreal to talk about it directly with him and hear it from the horse's mouth!! Meanwhile, while we were talking, he looked Melody right in the eyes and gave her a big wink and smile! (those of you that heard my intro speech before "Things We Said Today" on the Yellow Matter Custard 2 CD/DVD will know the incredible significance of this...pretty incredible actually!) In the end, while I had only hoped for 30 seconds with him, he stayed and chatted for a good 5 or 10 minutes or so (on two different occasions) I must say, the only bummer of the whole thing was not being able to get a picture... As soon as we began talking, Melody snapped a shot of us talking and a security guard made her delete it!!! (aaaarrrrggghhhhhhh!!!) He explained as it was a private party for friends and family, they didn't want pix, autographs, etc. There weren't any "fans" there and they wanted to keep it like that... As much as that was a total bummer for me and Melody, I TOTALLY get that and understand. Besides, it's probably cooler that I got 10 minutes of one-on-one intimate time with NO pic, than a pic with a 15 second handshake like most people... So there ya have it...I have now met both living Beatles...(and had camera issues with both of em!! Ringo's is another story...) It's nights like this that give me so much gratitude for what I do. And it also reminds the importance of the musician/fan relationship which I also never take for granted and always try my best to honor when I meet my fans... Life is good! Carpe Diem....
