EGYPT STATION

I don't mind the L.A. Times approach of reviewing both Pauls (McCartney and Simon) at once all that much (though I'd prefer Macca's get all the attention in a review devoted to just his), since to me, both Pauls are equals in song writing ability. I've loved so many of both writers' songs. On a Beatles site and my f.b., I recently opined Paul Mc. music is so much better than Ed Sherran's and the Bee Gees' songs...was that too negative to say that, was it comparing apples and oranges as some charge...it's my opinion, though, honestly.

London Sunday Times feature on Paul and Egypt Station
The LP has a number of highlights and, from the pretty, acoustic Confidante to the seven-minute Despite Repeated Warnings, via the rock strut of Who Cares, it does what you want a McCartney album in 2018 to do: it includes five or six songs he can play at a concert that don’t feel like impostors taking the place of Love Me Do. The first single, I Don’t Know, features his best melody in years.

The Daily Mail gave Egypt Station four out of five stars, saying it is 'brimming with passion and brilliant songs!' Of course he says the 'punchiest numbers' are "Come On To Me" and "Fuh You", calling them 'rock-solid'. Well duh, or should I say well fuh?

Given that I can't remember it that's a bit of a worry.

Bunch of new videos on each song with Paul talking about it:

Those clips were amazing to hear! I am soo excited for "Who Cares,""Ceasar Rock (She's A Rock!)"and "Despite Repeated Warnings" now after hearing the story behind them!
Story about the young fans who are going through some problems on "Who Cares".... (I once told Paul his music helped me overcome BS from bullies!)
and odd ball "Ceasar Rock" Beatle inspired trippy styles sounds awesome!
I literally can't wait for Friday!

You just never warmed to the song, Kestrel; I remember its melody quite well, can hear it in my head right now. I don't go by reviewers, even The London Times; art appreciation is subjective. It's still fun to read the critics. Sometimes you think they got something very wrong, but it's interesting to discover different takes on the same song and other perspectives than your own, I find. One of my sisters claims that to her, "all Taylor Swift songs sound alike." Ouch. (I can differentiate at least some. That mewing, purring wispy voice of hers can render her fare "samey.") Anyway I doubt many would make that same damning charge about eclectic Macca's, with all his wonderful variety and lauded mastery of melody (smiley face).

"It includes five or six songs he can play at a concert that don't feel like impostors taking the place of Love Me Do"--what does that even mean ?? As if "Love Me Do" is his zenith, the ne plus ultra of his ouevre, LOL ! Or, what did they mean, exactly? You can't go by even the intellectually discerning (one would think) Sunday London Times. You have to trust your own ears, brain and heart. If you're even the faintest bit musical.

That's true Susy although it might work better for me as an album track. I haven't played it for a few weeks now but I just remember it sounding contrived and laboured. I'll always prefer a song like Scared which is more focused and honest.

"Mean Mr. Mayo" on Youtube was able to get a copy of Egypt Station before it's release date, and showed what the cover and lyrics sheets and CD looks like, etc, and gave his opinions and reviews of each track.

Anyone know if the extra two tracks on the US Target "exclusive" cd ("Get Started" and "Nothing For Free") are available outside the US?

Yes, they'll be available on a limited edition cd from HMV in the UK. Not sure about elsewhere though.

I'm not going to purchase this cd right away. Like some of his other releases; for instance "New" he released a standard edition, deluxe/collectors editions along w/ DVD etc on different dates. In the meantime; I'm looking forward to listening to it on Spotify & Youtube.
