One on One Tour

A new tour name is merely a reason to tour the same territories again.
I agree with you on this one. The best thing we can expect is a small shake up of the setlist; probably about five, six new songs....
5 or 6?! You're being generous!

Always an optimist

It's a cool tour name, but I don't expect any more personal experience than the show already is. There will be the usual little shake-up, but the core of the show will stay how it is. Also keep in mind he brought out no less than 2 never played before songs and about 4 songs he hadn't played in ages for the last leg(s) of the last tour, so that was already a huge shake-up for him, which will reflect on any more changes he might make. A new tour name is merely a reason to tour the same territories again.
I second that. But as a someone who has only seen Paul 4 times so far, I am absolutely happy with that. We are really blessed that he keeps on touring rather extensively and that he puts on an amazing show. That is all I want.

Yes! I would like to emphasis on that. In the end it's nitpicking, knowing what he gives us on stage.

Couldn't agree more! So far so good, hopefully he can keep on touring!

OK any guesses here? What exactly is this? Is it a revamp of the setlist? The promise of a redesigned set is interesting, but what does it mean? The initial announcement has a double photo of Paul. Will he be singing with a hologram of himself from years gone by? Does one on one mean no band? a pickup basketball game? Does he plan on singing a Hall and Oats song? OR.... is this a tip off to his new albums name of possibly collaborations with other artists? Throw out the guesses!
I think it's just a name for the tour. There will be some setlist changes, but probably nothing major. It will be interesting to see what the new stage design will be.

I'm anticipating many more new songs than even 5 or 6! I reckon 10 is ballpark. AIM HIGH!
-
The Out There tour placed around 10 new songs, maybe around 15, from the previous On The Run Tour.
-
I've noticed on the venue seat maps that the square box in front of the stage that represented the small poorly received rising stage on the Out There tour is missing this time? I guess we'll find out soon enough if it is indeed gone.

On The Run '11 debut night: Never played live before: Junior's Farm (debuted one month earlier at tail-end of previous tour) The Night Before Brought back on tour for first time in a while: Maybe I'm Amazed (a few exclusive outings in December 2010, otherwise last time on tour 2005) I Will (acoustic version 2005) Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight (last tour on tour 1990) That was quite the exciting setlist watch... Added further on during the tour, never played before: Come And Get It (late 2011 EU leg exclusive) The Word / All You Need Is Love / She Loves You (late 2011-early 2012 EU leg exclusive) My Valentine (early 2012 debut) Added further on during the tour: Every Night (Mexico exclusive) Things We Said Today (rare rotation song, first time on tour since 2003) Hope Of Deliverance (South America/Mexico exclusive, first time since 1993) Birthday (rare rotation song, not counting sporadic appearances, first time on tour since 2003) So that's 5 new/old songs during the debut, on average another 2 during a later leg of the tour.
-
Out There '13 debut night: Never played live before: Eight Days A Week Your Mother Should Know (dropped after half a year, at 1/5th of the tour...) All Together Now Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite Lovely Rita Brought back on tour for first time in a while: Listen To What The Man Said (first time on tour since 1976) Hi, Hi, Hi (first time on tour since 1976) Another Day (first time on tour since 1993) We Can Work It out (first time on tour since 2004, first time full band version since 1993) Added further on during the tour, never played before: FourFiveSeconds (mid-late 2015 exclusive) Temporary Secretary (mid-late 2015 exclusive) Another Girl (mid-late 2015 exclusive) Hope For The Future (mid-late 2015 exclusive) Everybody out There Save Us Queenie Eye New Added further on during the tour, not played in at least 5 years: One After 909 (rare rotation song, first time since 2010, first time on tour ever) Can't Buy Me Love (first time since 2009, first time on tour since 2003) Good Day Sunshine (Scandinavia mid-2015 exclusive, first time on tour since 2005) So that was more like it! The problem here was the 'scraping the barrel of the Beatles catalogue' repertoire, but at least on the debut night 5 never played live before songs plus another 4 huge songs (including 3 solo hits) not played in decades. Then later on another 11 songs, majority never played live before, which on average 7 were in a set, with 2 earlier additions dropped.

So it's not entirely unreasonable to expect 10 (or more) new additions/resurrected oldies. The big question is will he dip deeper into solo and Wings? Thankfully he's become more confident in playing Wings material through the years. Let's face it The Beatles well is almost dry. Still he WILL insert new Beatles songs into the set: how many? Post Wings songs have least chance of all although Take It Away could be a real goer. Time for I Want To Hold Your Hand, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey and Getting Closer.

True, but... The reason why On The Run '11 had so damn little was because he already added relatively a lot only a year earlier for Up & Coming, and added a bit half a year before that tour as well. So the comparison is a bit off, because of his random new tour names every half a year at the time, haha. Out There '13 was 2,5 years, Up And Coming '10 only a year and a bit. (And of course he dropped the solo additions from that short tour as soon as possible!) My point is, as we know he had a few major changes in the last bit of Out There, including a complete overhaul of the first encore, a lot of new rotation songs and the most offbeat choice ever in his touring career, so the chances of as much changes as during the debut night of Out There are much slimmer than it was then.
-
Mmmm...but... Brand new tour - brand new year. If Out There kicked off with around 10 new additions, I can't see why One On One can't do the same. All depends on Paul; how far Rusty and Brian can push him...and ultimately his reaction. Surely he's not just doing this for the money! :

Getting Closer would be a dream addition for me. I LOVE that song. Would be a tough vocal to pull off though. Uncle Albert would be amazing. He's talked about it in an interview, said it's a very complicated arrangement to pull off live but he knows the fans want it. Maybe this is the year

Because by the time it was May 2013 and the Out There debuted, the set from the previous touring gig which was obviously the final On The Run gig, consisted of only one track debuted in the full year before, 'My Valentine', and - I'm not going to count - the big majority stuck for year and years. While the last On The Run gig had no less than 3 never before played additions (4 if you count the Rihanna song, which I don't) and another 3/4 Beatles songs not played in years, all just added in the last half year. That's all I'm saying, why it was logical for the On The Run debut night to have such a minor shake-up and why it would be logical if the first One On One leg(s) will have a minor shake-up and why the Out There debut night had such a relatively big one. Anyway, we will see, I hope for those who didn't get to see him in 2015 that at least all those brilliant additions from that year will stick around. Regarding the solo work: it's now or never, and with in the last 6 years 'Venus And Mars/Rock Show', 'Hi Hi Hi', 'Listen To What The Man Said', 'Ram On', 'Letting Go', 'Hope Of Deliverance', 'Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five', 'Temporary Secretary', 'Another Day', the future is looking bright.
-
I'm sticking with my prediction of around 10 new/resurrected songs. And with no album to plug that opens up a couple of spots. We'll know soon. Some sooner than others!
-
The one I'd like to hear that he's never done live is Oh! Darling. Though it would be a challenge vocally. But he could do it without the screams.
