The first rumor for next year has just surfaced: Lucca Summer Festival in July 2017. The souce is Mimmo D'Alessandro, who looks after Paul's interests (as far as live performances go) in Italy. http://www.rockol.it/news-660007/paul-mccartney-italia-napoli-concerto-pompei I'll leave the complete translation to someone else, but basically Mr. D'Alessandro said that they almost signed Paul to play this year (he claimed the contract was in his pocket) but decided to focus on duets instead. He also said that the first performer (from a series of "explosive names") for next year's festival will be announced by the end of September.

      2010 Brazil (3x) 2011 Peru, Chile, Brazil (2x) 2012 Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil (3x) 2013 Brazil (3x) 2014 Uruguay, Chile (2x), Peru, Ecuador, Brazil (5x) 2015 UK (2x), Holland (2x), France 2016 Argentina (3x) 2017 Brazil (3x) 2018 UK (3x) 2019 Brazil (3x)

Lucca was mentione this year, so I hope for more European shows in 2017. Last time Paul was in Italy in 2013(?). So hope for Poland this time

That's great news, thanks for sharing. It means his plan is to keep touring next year and there's a chance for us to see him again somewhere. By then I hope he will be promoting a new album as well.

Now I'm wondering: which important festivals (anywhere in the world) Paul has not performed at yet?

Austin City Limits comes to mind... Might be a weird crowd for him though. And October in Texas is dreadful. I'm sure he'd rather just play the Frank Erwin Centre again.

                  off the ground

October here is nice! Unless you're in the valley maybe. The heat breaks in September. Not that heat ever stopped him, or us, he came here in August ablaze awhile back and it was great!! I do throw down with your Frank Erwin theory though!!

We can only hope. There were some rumours recently about March, I think. Somebody was apparently checking out venues. I can't remember where this info came from but I'm clinging onto it for dear life!

Now he went the route of Werchter and Pinkpop, he could do almost any festival who book oldies acts as headliners. He really exhausted the market in most of the territory of Europe though, so I can't see him doing that at this point.

Or Sziget Festival in Budapest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sziget_Festival Though I'd much prefer an arena gig like in 2003.

He would've fit any of those festivals. Reading/Leeds has become a lad rock/pop festival aimed at teenagers. If he tours the UK, he gotta do some cities he hasn't done in almost 15 years, apart from the inevitable London gig.

How likely do you think that Lucca Summer Festival rumor is? He toured Europe in the spring/summer last year and did the same this year, changing a few countries and repeating others. Maybe he's planning to do the same next year in Rome (or other Italian cities) and places in which he hasn't been to in a while, like Barcelona, Lisbon, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, etc.

Never heard of that festival, but I guess they book big acts, sell day tickets, and plan a few other acts around it? That's basically a standalone gig, like Hard Rock Calling at Hyde Park in 2010, and those he can easily do, yeah. I see that Italian one got Neil Young, Lionel Richie, Tom Jones and many others (day by day) this year, so not unlikely. I'm more talking about the traditional 3-4 day festivals, from which maybe only Hurricane and Southside (Germany) are left in Europe, but even those aren't really aiming at McCartney's crowd. Regarding the few European major markets he didn't tour in the last few years, they probably always will find something. I'm afraid he only did Madrid since 2004 in the most Southern regions because of the economical situation, and Russia is off completely at the moment.

Yes, of course. It would be nice to see him doing shows in places like Athens, Istanbul, etc. but I realize the economical/political situation is some regions is not favourable and that's unfortunate. Which places in Europe do you think have the better odds, then?

Yeah, could easily fit, but that's just like a standalone gig under a different moniker then. Any European weekend festival targeted at a mainly young pop/lad rock crowd like all those in England is not going to happen.

His ways of work got unpredictable, and with Bergen and Herning on the list this round it's just too hard to tell where he will end up a potential next time. Maybe Barcelona if they can get it together next year, there's enough left in the UK and Dublin to (re)visit, Switzerland, Finland, some random central gig in France... But the slow ticket sales and mixed reviews of the last European outing shows in the majority of Europe the market is beyond exhausted.

He would've fit any of those festivals. Reading/Leeds has become a lad rock/pop festival aimed at teenagers. If he tours the UK, he gotta do some cities he hasn't done in almost 15 years, apart from the inevitable London gig.

I disagree about Leeds/Reading becoming a "lad rock/pop festival aimed at teenagers" - it's demographic is much larger than that. I can't see him playing any UK festivals to be honest and would assume he will be playing arena dates at the back end of the year as he did in 2011 though assume it would consist of dates in Birmingham, Liverpool and London as per his 2015 UK tour maybe adding in Manchester.

Could be, but having Foals and Disclosure as shared headliner by the lack of proper touring headliners late August plus Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy at another day with sub-headliners like has-beens witih no relevant new material as Two Door Cinema Club and The Vaccines plus The Courteeners and Maximo Park high on the bill... that's a far cry from the heyday and aimed at an obvious target audience. Either way we can agree Paul McCartney will never play this any more. The last "oldies" act there was probably Neil Young 20+ years ago. I just hope he will stay away from Glastonbury, but it seems like he understands that. The 2004 performance is untouchable, nothing can be added to it in this stage of his career.
