I was at a Bruce gig at city's ground in manchester a few years ago and a young lad joined him on stage to sing. I must say it was a real delight to watch. The kid knew all the words and you could tell that Bruce enjoyed it too. The crowd seemed the enjoy it too. Also the other year you could become a member of the Alarm for one song during the encore but this was an auction prize at each show for the love hope and strength charity. It was pretty cool to watch and see how much it meant to the folk on stage
I also think that is cool! It is different from getting a part of your body signed. It would be fun to watch an audience member get to sing or play guitar with Paul.
Green Day does that, too. VERY cool!

Bono has brought people up on stage to play guitar with U2; I've personally seen it once myself. As for Bruce and the kid singer - Bruce has been doing that at every show for several years, tho he seemed to finally have cut that song from his set list. It's cute the first few times you see it, but if you are a Springsteen fan who goes to multiple shows (because Bruce does NOT play the same setlist every night! ) it gets tiresome. Some of the kids just do not sing very well, and the worst part is that some parents start using their kids as "Bruce Bait" and try to push people around for a position in the front of the pit so that Bruce will see them and PICK THEIR KID!!!!!! :

I would not enjoy seeing a kid stammering through a Springsteen song at one of his concerts.

The minute you bring anyone on stage, all bets are off. Be ready for anything. Most people are not professional performers and would likely be thrown off from the sound mix on a stage. Add to that nerves and being a foot away from your musical hero, and you might as well just get your ass signed!!

If more guys were called onstage, I'd DEFINITELY be down for that.

I've been lucky enough to meet him several times over the years through waiting patiently at Abbey Road, Apple and various gigs round the country so not bothered about going up on stage. I think I'd die of embarrassment in any case! And I don't like tattoos. Ho hum, not a chance then. Added to that, I'm 60 and not a lithe young thing any more. It seems you do have to be pretty young to get called up - either a child or a 20 something girl. Or maybe that's just who I've seen going up. At the end of the day, I don't really mind other people being called up and am pleased for them to get the opportunity to see the magic close up! I met him in the 60s 70s and 80s and he was pretty hot then P

Some of these kids are only there because of the parents, and some of them have rehearsed. :

You are so lucky Sheryl! I'm just a bit younger than you (will be 60 in May) and I have never met Paul. Would have given anything to have done so in the past! He sure was hot then!

They do this at Paul concerts too. Kids are standing there like they'd rather be playing somewhere else.

Agree oobu, we were at the Chicago show too & someone had their kids at the soundcheck holding up signs the entire time. They looked bored the entire time! But Mama wanted her kids on stage with Paul.Thank God Paul didn't see them & call them up.I'm sure they didn't care who he was at all.

I'm sure it's an awesome experience for those who got to do it. Maybe it would be cooler in my eyes if 98% of the lucky ones weren't female.

Lucky girl! I never met him. In Warsaw during the gig i was standing right in front of him showing a poster . He smiled at me nodding several times but...he didn't call anybody up on stage And in Verona it was the same! I'm hoping in Liverpool... I think i could die if this will happen! I would give anything!

The body part signing is getting old.Tho I wouldn't mind ! Something I have noticed,in the states anyways is,It looks like the women that have been brought upstage all know each other ! When they started getting signed a few years ago, they're posts on FB were like, "We have to get so&so on stage now....it's her turn now....etc etc. & sure enough another one of them got up there with Paul. They are very friendly with Shelley & have been seen talking with Brian Riddle too. I'm not the only one who has noticed this. He should do what he use to do several years ago, at the end of the show he would sign a couple of things & hand them back (or throw!) as he was walking off the stage. It took a lot less time.
I'm not on FB but I have met several of the women after they were signed and to my knowledge the ones I know have become friendly with each other after they were signed, sort of a sorority with something very special in common. They are all great people and great fans. I think they became friendly with Shelley after they were signed. If I'm wrong ladies please correct me. I've met Brian Riddle at some of the shows and if he isn't busy doing his job of making sure Paul is well taken care of he is friendly and personable. I don't think any of the ladies called up were friendly with Shelley or Brian before their signing. Once again this is my opinion and if I'm wrong ladies let us know. I enjoy the signings and have been lucky enough to have a few items signed by Mr. McCartney from the stage.
I'm late to the party, but you're right, Phil. I met everyone only after being called on stage. In fact, my Paul friends have become some of my very best friends in the world. I'm also not friendly with Shelley - I've only "met" her once, and that was at the last soundcheck I did. That's the same for my friend aakiboh, too. But, I can't speak for anyone else.

I thought calling fans up to the stage was cool when it was unique...but it seems to be becoming part of his schtick, and with that, it's not all that exciting anymore (except for the lucky participants of course )

I wonder how many posters here that are against fans going on stage would politely say to Brian, if chosen "Oh, no thank you, I don't care to go up and meet Paul McCartney" I'm guessing not many. I went on stage in Detroit, in 2011(soundcheck) and it was one of the greatest few minutes of my life. Yes, it's true about many of us knowing each other, (and Shelley and Brian) all brought together with one thing in common-not hurting anyone, no harm, no foul. Now again I ask....WHO WOULD TURN DOWN THE CHANCE IF ASKED?????
