Crank / telemarketer phone calls
-
Yeah, maybe it has quieted down a bit...but still not enough.

A friend of mine got a call from a local number, and it was actually someone in India who said "Good morning (they said her name here.) This is the Missouri Police Department... we're on our way to arrest you. Please call this number xxx-xxx-xxxx within 15 minutes, and wire us $2500, so we can stop the Missouri Police Department from arriving at your house to arrest you. If you don't pay, God help you."
My friend just rolled her eyes and gave the number to the local police. She knew it was a stupid scam. I hope the real police were able to stop the #$%@*s from calling anyone else!

How anyone could fall for that crap is beyond me. Was the number they were supposed to call the same as the number they were calling from, I wonder?

No, there were two different numbers. The one they used to call from was a local number. The other, that they asked people to call, was a toll free number. The police reported to my friend that they called the number, and also the 800 number the scammers said to call to avoid "getting arrested," and both numbers were traced to India. It's assumed the police took it further by turning the info over to the FBI and threatening the scammers with arrest.
I myself have gotten weird recorded calls from numbers claiming to be the IRS, the Canadian IRS and scammers claiming I owe money for my student loans.... which isn't true because I worked my way through college and didn't have any student loan debt at all. They all called me by name in the recorded messages, which is creepy...

The last time those Pakistani or Indian scammer cons called (they'd called numerous times that day and night) I told them I had reported them to the police for phone harrassment and the cops were gonna check them out, and they haven't called since !

No noticeable reduction here. When I got home from work last night there were 3 robocall messages on my voicemail.

Yeah, maybe that was a Saturday. There are a lot fewer on the weekend.

Everytime I get a crank call, I get my horn spray and spray it right into the phone! I promise you you won't hear from them again!

I'd be afraid that they'd want to get even & keep calling just to annoy me.

So far, so good oobu! I haven't heard from any of them!

I've been getting one from Microsoft a lot lately. It claims my certificate has expired. It's a recording.

I'm always getting calls from the I.R.S. saying that they are going to repossess my house, cars and garnish my wages! Everytime I tell them that I work for the I.R.S., they hang up on me!

A telemarketer called me a few weeks ago. I spoke to him in Arabic. None have called me since.

I think any language that is foreign to them would work. Arabic is effective because Americans are so afraid of it.

I don't know another language so I'll have to stick with just hanging up on them.
It was getting better for a little while but now the telemarketer calls are back in full swing.

Don’t you have caller I.D. on your phone? Don’t answer, just let it go to your answering machine or voice mail.
Our home phone identifies the calls as telemarketer, suspected spam, unknown name, wireless caller, or will show a name. I never answer unless it is my son, daughter or a number I recognize. I have YouMail on my cellphone which is an app that blocks tons of spam calls. Some still sneak through and I block them manually.

Yes, I have caller ID but they are getting very tricky. They change the name, like the name of your electric co & also change the number to look like it's a local call. I've been waiting for a few doctor calls & sometimes those arae not identified as such. So I answer a few more than I'd like.

I see. I just got one that said Not Assigned!

Yes, I've got that one before too.
