Leaving tomorrow on the first leg of my journey to the Beatles/1960s festival. Spending the night in Nashville with my friend Jennifer who is going with me. Supposed to be sunny and hot all 5 days (high 80s to low 90s!)

Headliners are Peter Asher, The Buckinghams, The Grass Roots and The Cowsills. Many Beatles tribute bands including Brit Beat, Jukebox Beatles, Studio Two and Hard Day’s Night.

Thanks! I’m in Nashville right now at my friend’s. We’re listening to Beatles on Sirius XM right now.

Back home in Atlanta now (stopped for the night in Nashville) My friend took me to this cool record store and ended up spending $54 on Beatles rare old stuff (2 vinyl LPs, one picture sleeve 45, 2 CDs, and a Buckinghams LP for them to sign on the Flower Power cruise next year. Also my friend gave me Grass Roots and Turtles LPs to get signed.

It was hot as hell at the festival. Poured down rain Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 so 2 bands we wanted to see cancelled. But then the one I really wanted to see came on at 8:30 on a different stage (BritBeat, one of the best Beatles tribute bands in the world!) That night they did a 1968-1969 set. First time on Friday was early Beatles and they wore the grey collarless suits. They will also be on the 2020 Flower Power cruise!

Got to meet and talk briefly with Paul Cowsill. He is a riot and has so much energy for a guy who is almost 68!!

Also talked with Mark Dawson of The Grass Roots. They will also be on next FP cruise!

My friend and I are in the front row right in front of Paul Cowsill (with his hands up) I’m on the right with the dark hair.

The 4 guys on the left (sitting) are The Grass Roots and the other 2 guys on the right are in The Buckinghams. Joe Johnson is the moderator. (standing)

Rules for admittance Sept. 1-6, 2021:

                FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Abbey Road on the River to Require Vaccination or Negative Covid Test

Jeffersonville, IN (August 10, 2021) – Organizers of Abbey Road on the River have announced this year’s festival held Labor Day weekend will require attendees to show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination or a negative Covid test obtained within 72 hours of attending the event.

The announcement comes after months of closely monitoring other live entertainment events and music festivals and weeks of planning and consulting with City and health officials. Organizers will continue to evaluate the situation, with the health and safety of patrons being the number one priority. All festival staff and performing bands will also be required to show vaccination or negative Covid test as well.

“After having to cancel the festival three times due to Covid, we really didn’t want to do that again, especially with such a practical solution available to us,” says event producer Gary Jacob. “We believe this is the best way to present the event safely, and give our fans, staff, and bands confidence that we are doing everything we can to protect them and their families. We understand that while not everybody can be vaccinated, everybody can be safely tested and if it’s important enough to come to our festival, please get tested. They are readily available and often free.”

This year for the first time, all festival events and concerts will be held outdoors. At this time, AROTR is not requiring masks be worn by fully vaccinated patrons in outdoor spaces at the festival, but masks are encouraged while in congregated areas. Kids 12 and under are encouraged to wear masks on the playground or in crowded areas. Increased hand sanitizer and hand washing stations will be on-site, and cleaning crews will do frequent cleanings in high touch areas.

Well, Leslie and I finally made it to Jeffersonville, IN! (the festival starts tomorrow (Thursday the 2nd) but a whole bunch of us met up at a pizza parlour nearby at 6pm Weds.

We battled the torrential rain coming from Atlanta to Nashville on Tuesday + an hour delay due to a jackknifed truck, but today the weather was perfect. Some rain is expected Saturday, just hope it doesn't last too long.

Leslie and I are having a blast! Today it rained lightly throughout Peter Asher's and Laurence Juber's shows, but we had umbrellas. Then miraculously it stopped and The Fab Four came on about 10pm. They let general admission holders (like us) into the VIP area at the last minute so we ran like mad and we got right up against the barrier in front of them!!

We had a great day, mostly overcast but sun came through in late afternoon, Very warm and humid. Saw Peter Asher again with Laurence Juber and Jeff Ross on keyboards, Gavin Pring as "George Harry's Son" backed by Ardy Sarraf the "Paul" in The Four, Kevin Ashba on keyboards, Rolo Sandoval (Ringo in TFF) on drums and Michael Amador playing blistering lead guitar. (he used to be "George" in TFF), next was The Fab Four doing the 1967-1970 portion of their show, Then I went to see The Jukebox Beatles while Leslie watched Jefferson Starship. The night ended with a 2 hour finale concert by All You Need Is Love (they are disbanding/retiring.

Got to get up at 9:45 and check out at 11. Is now 3:30 - gotta get to sleep!

Leslie and I made it home in record time - 6 hours and 20 minutes and that was with stopping for 1/2 hour for lunch and getting gas twice. Great weather and traffic not bad at all since it was a holiday.

                              She flies home tomorrow afternoon.

Found out that 2 patrons and 2 musicians tested positive for Covid after the festival. I know who all are but the one musician. One musician is in Jukebox Beatles and we spoke quite closely without masks (we had both been vaccinated) I touched base with him on FB messenger and he said he was just congested and had a cough for a few days and was tired. I got a Covid test on Tuesday and 34 hours later it came back Negative. Yay! The one woman had a more moderate case, but didn't have to be hospitalized. She mostly just felt lousy and tired. Then tonight someone posted that they tested positive, but no word on how they're doing. The festival required us to show proof of vaccination or a negative test within 3 days prior to entry.

So pretty good considering all the people there and most with no masks on (including me - I couldn't breathe well enough in the heat) Leslie was better and had her mask on a lot more!
