His name's Paul btw. Never understood why fans refer to him as "McCartney " repeatedly. always bugged me. Then again I'll get told that's your choice and if I don't like it I should ignore it. Ok then!
(Yes, if you want to say the same things 10000 times it's your right, I just felt in this thread everything seemed on loop, same same same thing, and a few saying otherwise got shot down with distain as being "wrong" rather than saying each to their own opinion. Hey I didn't think it was fantastic, but I stated reasons why that one performance may have been more rough than others - Linda's anniversary, sadness about family, etc, no one seemed to notice any reason other than "he's old his voice is shot". Constantly saying someone's performance was rubbish and voice now sounds terrible is the same to me as saying it was crap btw. And if I read Mick Jagger's name again I think I'll scream!! But too tired to argue! G'night!)
Fwiw, I agree with you. So tired of the dead horse being beaten. Regardless of what our opinion is, it gets old hearing about it "Again & Again & Again."

I don't know him personally so I don't call him "Paul", that is what I was taught as a child. Actually, I used to use the term "Mr. McCartney" like reviewers do in the NY Times but people on here complained about that on this board. I understand this is a fan board and not formal but I am not going to change now. It does not bother me what people call him on this board, none of my busniess.
I know I never shot down anyone who said his performance was good or ok. Jagger was brought up because to most people, he sounded pretty good that night. Jagger was compared to McCartney because they are around the same age. It was not me who took it further with how Jagger and McCartney sound during concerts.
I am not going to write any further about this but since you replied to my post I figured it was polite to reply back. I get it that people are depressed and grumpy with the coronavirus situation, hang in there and stay safe !!

There are really no harsh critics of McCartney on this board. For every post that somebody like me says his voice is going downhill, there are 5 times as many posts saying how much I love his solo albums the last 40 years. In addition, I can't count the number of times I have said he is fantastic songwriter, incredible musician and had one of the best rock and roll voices ever. For example, I have said quite a few times that nobody does 50's rock as well as McCartney and his vocals on RDR were fantastic. I have also said he is the best rock act I have ever seen live and only Springsteen came close IMO. With the possible exception of BJ, there has been nobody on this board who has been dying for McCartney to do more of his great songs live from his solo albums. BTW - I would love somebody to show me a post where I said his voice sucked on any album. The fascination with his voice is that some people do not want to see McCartney finish his career sounding like a washed up Chuck Berry or Frank Sinatra which was sad. We want him to finish his career on a positive note and that is why some of us worry about his voice live.
Before last weekend, the most critical thing I probably have said about his voice during concerts is that he really should not sing "Maybe I'm Amazed" anymore. I think quite a few people have agreed with me that he just can't handle that song very well anymore. I don't know what threads you are reading but most of them are 99.9% favorable to McCartney. Some of us are not fanboys/fangirls and will occasionally say something he did was not wonderful.
Perception is an amazing thing . I'd say proclaiming " his voice is shot " is as critical as you can be of a singer . I saw him in Glasgow in December 2018 . In terms of vocal performance , the highs vastly outshone the lows . I've read two lovely posts on this thread . Every time Paul performs on something these days - I dread coming on here to read people talk negatively about his voice . I should probably just stop , because whilst I can recognise the passage of time , I fundamentally disagree . I can also accept it when people disagree with me , but as long as it's recognised as an opinion instead of " the gospel according to... "
When you perform live and you are Paul McCartney people are going to notice your vocal performance. You disagree with me and some others on the current quality of his voice, that is fine. Believe me, I take no pleasure having to say IMO his vocal performance last weekend was poor. Just curious, should people only post positive things about McCartney but never mention something that may have not been so good? Put me in the camp with some others that I hope he stops touring and puts his energy in creating a new album.
Hi , I have no problem whatsoever with your response here . It's clearly your own opinion , and I respect that. I just get irked when others put across their views in a away that attempt to patronise those who disagree .
Incidentally , I just went out for a run . Apple have added Paul's performance of last Saturday nights Lady Madonna on the the " paul McCartney essentials " play list . I don't think it sounds a bit out of place , and I'm really glad they added it .

The other day I was delivering some supplies to a local hospital and had a chance to gab with a few nurses in the ER. I asked them if they had watched the music special. Most of them did see parts of it. I joked with them about not a mention about law enforcement or military (yes I am both) during the show. What touched me during this conversation was when one young nurse said, "that Beatle guy made me cry". Whoa. When I asked why, she simply said, "he showed pictures of us". Whoa, again. Thanks Paul.

Which just goes to show that things us super-fans notice may not matter as much to the rest of the world, and vice versa.

There are no harsh critics of Paul on this forum that I've seen. There are people who are honest about the greatly deteriorated state of his voice and those who pretend that it's not so.
Those of us that write positive posts are not pretending, we know Paul's voice has matured and isn't the same as it was in 1964, 1979, 1992, etc. We just choose to be supportive of whatever he would like to give to us, and appreciate that he's still willing to do that. I don't understand why he needs a harsh reality check. If making music makes him happy, he has the right to keep rocking it in whatever way he chooses.
I respect your right to your opinion, Bruce, and don't mean to direct this at you personally, this post is addressed to anyone who has an opposite opinion. I know you care just as much as anyone about Paul and his music, and want to make sure it's presented in the best possible light. I'm sure that's the place that you're writing from.
If Paul's people/advisors or family members read this board and let him know what's being written here, or by some small chance he reads it himself, I don't know what good it does for him to read posts that his current efforts are lousy and aren't appreciated. It just seems unkind. But this discussion about his voice has been going on for years, he's probably got a tough skin and is used to it by now.
Lady Leslie I agree with your comments 100% I am supportive towards Paul, ever so grateful for whatever he chooses to give us, always touched that he chooses to remember those people he loves most in life through song ( such a loving heart and soul gesture), blessed to have all the wonderful people in the stadium singing along with me to the songs. So happy for him that Egypt Station did so well.

Great post wingsoverkc. And I agree with DrivinFan 100%. Paul is indeed a "class act".
