Covid-19 Coronavirus

Hey Laura, how are you ? Was thinking about you recently. Wondering how you are.
I get "Covid anxiety" fairly frequently when I sit around thinking about it, or read about it, about the contagion spreading more rapidly now and described as being "everywhere" and when I read about new deaths, or the number of deaths in general going up. About all the "hot spots." It's frightening.
I read an effective vaccine might come out by April--you hear different things about that. When it will come out.
And I did read that the front line of essential medical workers will get it first and next the elderly above age 65 and those most at risk with underlying conditions and then everyone else. But there again one hears and reads different things.

I think this year--2020--will go down as one of the more stressful years for pretty well everyone. Coming here helps for me.

I wrote a brief rant the other day, for the San Francisco online publication 48 Hills. Too much of this feels like a grim rerun.

Great article Bruce!

Enjoyed the article Bruce. With family and close friends in the SFO area, I can remember the era of early AIDS and the rumors and early deaths of many. A close friend managed to keep AIDS in check with a strict vegetarian diet and with supplements for a very long time. I remember discussing those conspiracy theories at the time with him. Just recently I read that they have been working on an AIDS vaccine for over 20 years. Hope there can be a CRISPR solution perhaps. We are very lucky with the speed that this Covid vaccine was developed. It is difficult to understand the cult like grip to these conspiracy theories up to the point of denial and death!?

Meanwhile, the U.S. numbers for hospitalizations and deaths keep getting worse. Everyone, please stay safe. We're going to have a rough few months before the vaccines get into wide circulation.

Oh! How are I miss going out whenever I wanted and whereever I could reach with my Wheelchair! Being in an Assisted Living residence we are always discouraged to go out for fear of contact with an infected person, and bringing it back. (medical visits only). I DO understand that. I don't want to get it. But I'm one of those who get anxious just staying in too long. I now spend most of my time in my small suite. (they even serve meals in our rooms). I've culled my bookshelves, closets and drawers--three times since lockdown! I have nothing left to clear out. I watch waaaaay too much TV now. (I'm practically on a 1st name basis with "Dr. Pol" now! (National Geographic channel). So much my eyes sting quite often. I've read and read. Even drawing is losing it's appeal. (plus I don't wanna use up my supplies). I can't see my friends, (they are all "at risk".), My family is the same. Or live with someone who is. And I've lost so many new friends I made here, 'cause most are 30 years older then me. Only 5 are closer to my age, and they all smoke--I don't. Plus we're discouraged from hanging out too often or too close, because of covid. Near-solitary confinement sucks--big time. Next time you scoff at inmates in solitary confinement, please think twice. I've certainly been re-educated on that during this lockdown.
",,,,playing solitaire til dawn; with a deck of 51....." isn't so funny anymore. Sigh...............................

Oh dear. Did I kill this thread???? If anyone else feels driven almost crazy by covid, go ahead and spill it here. Let's share our frustration. Even if we do understand why we have restrictions, it still gets to one. Right??? Come on, let it out. You'll feel better...........

Just so tired of talking about it. Had a big brouhaha with my daughter and her husband who wanted to drive her and 2 month old baby from Atlanta to Dallas last Tuesday night to see relatives of his and then drive 5 of them back to Atlanta! 🤯 They finally came to their senses and didn't go. His parents, sister and her 2 little girls flew back yesterday or today.

If they lived here they would have to be in quarantine now since people outside of their circle flew in.

They SHOULD both stay away from each other, but somehow I doubt that will happen. They all live in the same city (same as me) I already told my daughter they (the 5 of them who traveled and flew) should be quarantining.

It sucks, Laura...can't even go to libraries...though the major bad thing of course is being frightened of catching the virus and dying, or loved ones, or having a terrible case of it--and having to hear and read everyday about people dying of it. And news updates the death rate will "double" and cases are skyrocketing and the virus is "everywhere." And telling how horrible this winter will be.
I did read "everyone" in the U.S. can get the vaccine by June 2021, if that's true. It still seems a long time away.
Yours was a very vivid account and I appreciate your venting, and encouraging us all to vent.

Thanks. Your reply is a comfort. We all have different stress tolerance and certainly found the end of mine. Just have to keep on saying to myself/ourselves: This will end. This will end......

Good topic!! Just got back from a 2 month visit to help my sister move. It was so nice to see my dear sister and to laugh and binge watch TV and eat our favorite family foods together!
Coming home was a big letdown...big winter cold weather, jet lag and a cold. I have a group of friends who are my lifelines, as well as calls to my family. We watch TV together while on the phone, eat popcorn, ice cream and have coffee and a sweet together. It’s a way to reach out and not feel so alone. We’re trying to blot out even listening to the Donald’s voice and the daily tornado, while celebrating Joe and Kamala’s Win. The more I see the competence of Joe and his cabinet picks, 20+ years in government, the happier I am. (Not using family members without government experience ) It will be a bumpy start, he has committed to hit the ground running!
Costco was more prepared this time around and so is my supermarket. Praying for my Maccaboard friends. Better days are on the way.
This WILL end, we can do it !

Five counties in my area (including mine) are going on serious lockdown as of Sunday night until Jan, 4th.

Just for my own amusement, (or crazyness!), I rewrote Paul's "Yesterday" lyrics to suite the Covid times. I don't think I should post it tho, he might see it and get mad! LOL
-
Ok. Here it goes. My rewritten version of Yesterday. PLEASE don't be mad Paul.
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as if they're here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday
Suddenly, I'm not half the person I used to be
Covid's shadow is hanging over me
Oh Covid came so suddenly
Why it had to grow,
I don't know, they wouldn't say
I did something wrong,
Now I long for yesterdaaaaay
Yesterday, life was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe in yesterday
mm mm mm mm mmm m mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

It was great to see the news stories coming out of the UK today showing folks getting their Covid-19 shots. However, it also made me mad that meanwhile here in the States we are still twiddling our thumbs and not approving the vaccines to start here like they were supposed to around this same time. And all the while thousands more people are going to die in the coming weeks because our country is just refusing to take this virus seriously.

I heard the approval (EUA) will be any day now from the FDA. However, Trump effed the U.S. by only buying 100 million doses (enough for 50 million people to get the required 2 doses) from Pfizer! He passed on buying more later. So the U.K. and some EU countries snapped them up. Hopefully we can get more soon from Moderna and the other company because Pfizer said they couldn't sell us more until June!
I don't know how old you are, but if you're over 65, you'll be in the 2nd group to get them. Front-line workers, first responders and the like will get 1st.

UGH yes I had just read about Trump effing it all up a few minutes ago, what else is new eh? He likes to stick his head in the sand anyway regarding covid, so I guess this shouldn't really have surprised me.
I'm not anywhere near 65, but I will probably be in the second group though because my immune system doesn't work properly unfortunately.
