Update: I did have COVID. As of yesterday I was still testing positive, which means presumably infectious. Symptoms were never that bad except constant fatigue which still has not gone away. My neighbor, happily, has a small stash of home tests. The major drug stores here are usually out.
So how long did it take to get the original test back? You never answered my post to you on the 12th. What day of being sick are you on?
Sorry for the slow responses. Not sure if I mentioned, but I've been in the midst of moving from San Francisco to Hilo, Hawaii and it's been complicated -- wonderful, but complicated. Anyway...
It took me 6 days to get my SF city test results back. I finally found out that a local supermarket had a stash of home tests behind the register that you could get if you asked, and my neighbor had a few squirreled away. I tested positive on one home test, waited a couple days, then tested negative twice -- luckily, as my moving day was then imminent.
The symptoms were never very bad except for the fatigue. It really did knock the stuffing out of me for 10 days. And I gotta say this far into the pandemic the fact that it's this much of a struggle to get tested and get your results is just ridiculous.
My wife and I just returned from a short cruise to help celebrate my sister-in laws retirement. To get on ship we needed negative COVID test two days before we sailed away. We had no problem scheduling a test for that particular day and got results back 30 minutes after taking the test. Of course, we paid for it and were willing to do it because of the time situation. That being said, it is quite easy to get test and results back quickly in Charlotte NC. So I guess it depends on where you live, very glad you are feeling better. Congrats on your move to Hawaii !!!

Yes, availability of tests does vary by locality, it seems. I'm discovering that the COVID protocols in Hawaii are pretty strict. I just went to the local library for the first time, and had to show either a negative test or a vaccination card to get in. I have no objection to any of it -- I think the mad rush to "get back to normal" when nearly 3,000 a day are dying in the U.S. is nuts.

Still in lockdown. I'm literally surrounded by neighbours with Covid. Believe it or not they allow the smokers to leave their rooms to go out to smoke. That means they go down the hall breathing covid germs down the hallway at anyone they meet, touch elevator buttons, and re-infecting fellow smokers as they're breathing on each other. Hardly isolating! They should be forced to wear patches during this time, and stay in their rooms! Mad? Yeah I guess I am.

I don't blame you - I'd be furious! 🤬

That's insane. Here in Hawaii cases and positivity rates are up, but only a slight increase in hospitalizations so far. Be careful out there!

Still in lockdown. I'm staying mostly in my room, or I go outside. (we're allowed). But the smokers sit around near the door blowing the virus with their smoke. Then they go bac inside. You can literally smell they've been in the elevator. If you can smell the smoke, the virus can be in there too. I think I'm gonna have a showdown with the manager when he comes back.

Folks, these latest omicron variants are SUPER contagious! Suddenly several people in my orbit have it -- more than during previous surges. Happily they're all vaxxed and boosted so no one's in the hospital, but everyone reports what's much like a very bad case of the flu -- it totally knocks you on your a** for a week or more.
Meanwhile, I'm beginning to suspect that I have "long COVID" -- in my case, otherwise unexplained muscle/joint pain in both knees and ankles. It's not disabling -- so far -- but damned unpleasant. A recently CDC report lists "musculoskeletal pain" as the second most common long COVID symptom, and that one in five COVID patients (one in four of those over age 65) have prolonged or belatedly appearing symptoms.
Kids, this is NOT fun. Be careful out there!

Sorry to hear this Bruce (and you too paulfan11) This is why I still wear a mask everywhere I go. (even though over 90% of the people here are not wearing them anymore unless they have to like in a doctor's office) Just got some new KN95 4-layer masks in black. I also have some N95 ones that have straps around the back of your head and fit snugly.

Important point! Cloth masks are only slightly better than nothing. Get N95s or KN95s. Because the world has decided to pretty much let the virus run rampant, it continues to develop new and diabolical mutations, some of which make it more contagious and/or help it evade immune responses. Protect yourself as best you can.
And thanks to all for the good wishes. If it doesn't get worse, my situation is manageable. But you really, really don't want this, and some people have it far worse than I do.
