Listening to SF radio, I heard a lot of people never made it past traffic and missed the whole concert. There were angry callers saying how much of a mess the logistics were. Also, another favorite moment of mine was when Paul playfully said that Candlestick was the last gig the Beatles did because they got pissed off...lol.
How on earth could they miss the whole concert?? San Francisco is one of the biggest and most progressive cities in the US, can't see how this happened.
I think it started with the parking lot and got backed up from there. The parking system was problematic, once people entered the parking lot, they were allowed to park anywhere, allowing for large gaps and single empty spaces that were not getting filled up. They should have had enough parking employees to guide everyone to spaces, filling it up space by space, row by row. We were guided to the 4th parking entrance, when there were clearly plenty of empty spaces in the previous sections. Someone that came late into our row during the concert said the parking lot was a mess with drivers going round and round endlessly. Which in turn backed traffic up into the road going into the parking lot, which backed up on to the highways. As I stated earlier in this thread, the smart thing to do would have been to set up a special shuttle from the Cow Palace to Candlestick, a drive of only a few miles, with several shuttle buses running back & forth all night. I really think The City biffed this big time.

LetMeRollIt89:
Out There setlist with San Francisco Bay Blues after Ive Just Seen a Face. I Saw Her Standing There in place of Get Back. Long Tall Sally (with Farewell Candlestick Beatlemania video) replaces Helter Skelter. Outstanding!
So the second encore was? Yesterday Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End Long Tall Sally Thank you. Tom

Is the parking situation one of the reasons Candlestick is closing?

You are probably aware that many people that had tickets to last night?s Paul McCartney concert at Candlestick were unable to see the concert due not enough parking at Candlestick. I was one of those people... I left my house in Suisun City at 4:40 Pm I didn?t reach the entrance of Candlestick until 10:00pm; once I arrive they told us there was no parking available anywhere... My best friend Pete flew out from Jamestown VA to go to the concert with me... I don?t know who the blame was for all the gridlock but it seems the city of San Francisco was blaming Paul?s staff for the parking situation. I blame the city of San Fran because they didn't do enough to get the word out about special muni services. I listen to your radio station all day and there was nothing announced about taking Bart to Balboa and then muni into the stadium. I'm not blaming your radio station I just feel that the city of San Fran should have contacted radio stations and the news media to get the word out about the long delays. Also, I feel that Ticketmaster should have sent an email on this subject also notifying the fans to leave extremely early or to take Bart and then catch Muni (or alternatively send out a transportation advisory flyer by mail). I hope I'm not wasting my time with this post. For those fans that didn't have tickets to last night?s concert you will never know how we feel about missing the concert and for all of us that missed the concert we will never know and feel the excitement of last night?s concert event at Candlestick park. .

I can't even begin to imagine how much of a letdown that must've been. Not to mention, infuriating. So sorry to hear that.

Randy, I am so sorry to hear of your disappointment. As one of the lucky ones that did get to see the concert (I arrived at the venue at 4PM), I am totally sympathetic to your plight. I did post the special muni bus schedule here, but that only reached about 1% of the ticket holders. I suggest you send a letter to the mayor of San Francisco letting Mr. Lee know the horrid job they did with this concert. The city hosts the Outside Lands music festival every year and the ticket holders for that are able to find out details regarding transportation well in advance, and plenty of special accommodations are made. This was an EPIC FAIL on the part of the city of San Francisco, I am ashamed of them. Edited to add: It is not up to Paul's staff to arrange parking...that is up to the venue. Since the mayor wooed Paul into performing @ Candlestick (as opposed to Levi stadium in Santa Clara), it was up to the city and the Candlestick staff to secure adequate parking and transportation to the venue.

I'm very sorry to hear you weren't able to see Paul last night. I can't even begin to imagine how frustrating and disappointing that was for you and everyone else that was stuck from traffic and parking. But if the city is truly trying to blame Paul's people they need a reality check. Were Paul's people supposed to build more parking lots for the city? Direct traffic? Last I heard that wasn't Paul's or his people's job but the venue and city's job. Again so sorry about you missing Paul last night.

Like Randy and MANY OTHER concert goers, I too was held hostage in traffic gridlock for 4 hours with 1 mile to get to Candlestick only to find out when I finally reached the gate at 10:45pm that there was no parking to be found. I paid $1,000.00 for my 2 tickets in Row 19 and this was a lifelong, once in a lifetime event / birthday gift as well!!! Heartbroken, devastated and crushed can't even describe our feelings on the 2.5 hr drive home -- no Paul, no cherished memories-- just tears and more tears. I've contacted the ticketing company and the event agency Another Planet Entertainment demanding a full refund. I've emailed them my ticket receipt and will not let this go unresolved. That said, I'll never understand how such an important event was SO poorly managed -- so many people let down -- unacceptable failure. Too sad , too sad.... -Mette

I feel for all of you who missed Paul's concert due to traffic and parking problems. I suffered a similar problem trying to get to his Anaheim concert last decade. I have never been so frustrated in my life! It was also physically painful. I don't know what fix there might be for you but I hope you don't give up the hope that you will experience the joy of seeing his show in the future.

If you know where to look there is an audio recording of this show and Dodger Stadium.

Parking/access is one of many reasons the Giants and then the Niners abandoned Candlestick. It's just a bad location for a major sports stadium on every level, from transportation to the fact that it's one of the coldest and windiest spots in a city already famous for its cold weather. I haven't been to the new 49ers stadium (reports are they have some serious traffic/parking issues to work out as well), but the stadium the Giants built a few years ago, now known as AT&T Park (I hate these corporate names!) is really a joy to go to: It's in a more sheltered and warmer location, very accessible by public transit, and is just a really well designed stadium. People will miss Candlestick for nostalgia reasons, but it was a pretty wretched place to see either games or concerts.

Sorry to keep ragging on the ol' heap...er, Candlestick (Paul, come to Lambeau...no parking problems!), but whose bright idea was it to station the merchandise stands directed across from the concession stands?!?!?! Talk about complete pedestrian gridlock in already inadequate corridors. And I feel very bad for those who gave themselves plenty of time to reach the stadium and got caught up in the city of SF's ineptitude at traffic management and event planning.

So sorry to hear about those who didn't get to see the show, that's terrible
