Is this hip hop as well?
I haven't seen that one in awhile...great hair on Paul there!
I've never seen that before! And yes, great hair!
I've got that on cd & on DVD. The Ballad of Skeletens.
I've seen the best minds of my generation on stage together just now. Man...I'm quoting poetry left and right on this thread today.

What was the bit about the "Nancy" Skeleton?
SAID THE NANCY SKELETON, "JUST SAY NO!" SAID THE RASTA SKELETON, "BLOW NANCY BLOW!"

21st Century Paul:
Let me remind the first hip hop hit.
and the secondTechnically, John is "rapping" on that song, but it is not hip-hop. Freddie Mercury's vocal on "We Will Rock You" has a melody; therefore, he is not rapping...besides...it is absolutely pre-dated by spoken-word and other proto-hip-hop artists like Gil Scot-Heron in the 1960s.
Audi, all the vocals have a melody... Kanye West in that a song is sort of singing a melody. Even when we talk we do a melody. I don't mean those are the first hip hop/raps (I don't know what's the difference between them) but first hits (that's as old as music). Gil Scott Heron first record is from 1970. I can't define it easily, I sort of feel it when I hear it. But rap is somehow based especially on following the beat with the words. Johnnie B. Goode would be kind of that. Well, I think is a useless discussion as any genre discussion... It's all rock and roll in disguise.

Let me remind the invention of music itself (Ringo traveled back in time or so, lol...)

Whatever, Ollie.

Thank you so much for posting this--Ginsberg and Paul together on stage. Wow. What an amazing video!
I knew that they'd hung out and collaborated, but this is my first time ever seeing/hearing this. Fantastic! but I think it's later than '93, though.

Judging by Paul's clothes, hair, and this article, it appears to be 1993. http://www.nme.com/nme-video/youtube/id/Yr5Y4XQO7xQ Huh, I take that back! Now I'm finding articles saying 1996: http://www.openculture.com/2012/04/the_ballad_of_the_skeletons_allen_ginsbergs_1996_collaboration_with_philip_glass_and_paul_mccartney.html

I just got confirmation from a former Scottish board member who owns the CD: the release date of the CD single is 1996. Mystery solved.

Damn, I'm good. I know Paul's hair. And that was definitely Anthology-era hair. (I need a life )

A photo of the CD insert from that Scottish former board member:

I think the man himself would have rapped in some video "Paul McCartney tries rapping"
-
You guys are most welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Ginsberg passed away in 1997 from liver cancer so this was one of his last public appearances. I have that CD single as well.
-
I have the CD single also and do not consider it hip hop or rap. Please stop trying to convince me that what Kanye West does is music. I can't be convinced on that one.

Interesting article about the 12/12/12 Concert album and why Paul and Kanye have so few/no songs on the album, respectively: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/confidential/short-article-1.1226054?localLinksEnabled=false "As for McCartney, the source tells us his minimal participation was straight-up vanity. 'Egos are also to blame for there only being one Paul track. He didn?t like the way he sounded and would only approve the one on the album. A shame, because ?Blackbird? was so beautiful live!? says the source. It?s ?unfortunate that celebrity ego can tarnish even a concert for charity.'" Take it with a grain of salt, obviously, as it's from The New York Daily News.
-
Paul is also on the second "Songs After Sandy" benefit album (Ringo was on the first album). Paul's song on the album will be "I've Got a Feeling" from GENYC.

Yeah, I read that article, also. Interesting that he "didn't like the way he sounded." Guess he wouldn't have any input into "fixing" things on the album, so he just pulled the songs out.
