Time Travel

Besides another favorite, the movie The Time Machine, this is a really weird convoluted story by Robert Heinlein that I first read as a young teenager:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_You_Zombies
Another of my favorite time travel movies is Time After Time with Malcolm McDowell:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080025/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
And here's the link for Somewhere In Time:
-
I always like the "Time Machine" ...
adding to that ...
Steven King showed up on a Kindle -so I read it recently
11/22/63
going back further (since it is time travel) The Time Tunnel television show ... I don't know how it holds up with time, but it had interesting ideas. Same with the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone ... they had fun ideas, just not the graphics and visual effects that can be done now.
-
"The Final Countdown" with Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen was another great time travel movie. It's about a present day Navy aircraft carrier that goes through a time portal to World War II, and they have to defend themselves against the Japanese, while trying to find a way to get back home.
Love "Time after Time" and "Somewhere in Time". There's a Somewhere in Time fan club that has over 75,000 people in it called Somewhere in Time Enthusiasts (SITE) and they have an annual "FanFest" in Mackinac Island, Michigan every year that Jane Seymour usually goes to.
Because so many people love time travel films, the genre has branched out into different themes... "Dead Again" with Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh is about her traveling back (through dreams) to World War II... but you find out it was something different other than time travel that caused her to be overwhelmed with the dreams she was having.

I really like the 1960 Rod Taylor original but I wasn't keen on the 2002 Guy Pearce version at all, despite naturally having better effects. It just had no heart in it at all.
There are several Star Trek episodes which have time loop/ travel themes which are pretty good. I can never remember the titles though but one that comes to mind is where the USS Enterprise keeps blowing up, over and over again until Data works out whats been happening. Must have been The Next Generation episode for Data to be in it.

There was a Star Trek : The Next Generation episode where Captain Picard stayed on a planet for 30+ years, got married, had two children, and it showed him age to be quite elderly. He went to sleep and when he woke up he was on the Enterprise again, and they said he had only been gone a week.... that was probably a time warp/alternate dimension story rather than time travel.

Yeah, that would have been the Next Generation. Star Trek had a lot of time travel episodes in all of the various series. I watched The Original Series the most and so remember those episodes like Tomorrow Is Yesterday and my favorite, The City On The Edge Of Forever.

I won a ST trivia contest by knowing that this episode was Gene Roddenberry's favorite!

That was a great episode! Coincidentally the episode was called The Inner Light! (It was actually named after George's song!)

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! I have all the books too, but am only on #3! She is publishing a 9th one soon!

These depend on the book or show / movie :
Can you meet yourself?
Will you change everything in the future that you do in the past? The butterfly effect? Or can you only observe, but also cannot change anything at all?
Will you cause more trouble by changing things than the original course of history caused?A few more to add:
Lost
Back To The Future
The Travelers
there are more ....

I'm watching this new show called La Brea which is about a huge sink hole near the La Brea Tar Pits in L.A. that opens up and a bunch of people get sucked through this time portal to the same area but 10,000 years ago. It's pretty good! Only just watched 2nd episode. It's on NBC Tuesday at 9pm EDT.

That sounds interesting. Hopefully it might end up on dvd here in the UK. I don't watch much tv to be honest, apart from the BBC News channel.
One film I would recommend is Triangle. I can't really say much about it as a) its complicated and b) it would tend to spoil the film but to give you a flavour...... a group of friends go off on a sailing trip when they come across what appears to be an abandoned ship. As they approach they see someone on deck, who turns out to be one of the friends on the sailing boat !! Very interesting film and very well made.

No, the "blurb" for the movie said about the same thing you did.

While it's not "classic" time travel, one of my favorite movies of all time is titled "About Time"a 2013 Film I watched when I first retired and moved down to Florida. Speaking of heart, this movie a great amount of "heart". The whole cast was in itself... fantastic. Among others, it had Domhnall Gleeson (one of his first big roles), Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy, Tom Hollander and the beautiful Margot Robbie in one of her first big roles. Any movie that includes Rachel McAdams instantly grabs my attention because she is the perfect "girl nextdoor" actress imo. And of course, Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander were typically very funny.
I just pulled it up on Netflix and it is one of my favorite movies of all time with a very good soundtrack. Great family movie with great themes and a little "time travel" to boot. If you have never watched "About Time" it is certainly worth your while.

Did you enjoy it or wasn't it your cup of tea?

That was some movie! I'm yelling at the screen, "Kill her!" but she couldn't do it when she had the chance. There seemed to be no way out of the time loop!
And at first I'm thinking, Liam Hemsworth is playing an 18 year old?! Then I looked him up and he was only 19 when the movie was filmed!
