After further deliberatlion, I agree with Yankeefan and others that it is too soon for Paul to have another Compilation.  AFterall, Paul's last compilation was released in 2016.  I agree that Paul should wait a few years (and more new music) for Paul to relase another one.

Unless Paul has another new album/cd ready for June of 2022, I think what Paul should do is release a new album to celebrate his 80th birthday milestone.  This would not be a total "new" album but for many consumers who like Paul in general, this would be "like" new music.  The title would be LEFTOVERS AND RARITIES and it would focus on the many songs (and even some unreleased material) that didn't make it on his many original Post Beatles' Albums.  I see it as a 2 Volume Set (2 Discs on each set) and Volume would have a timeline of 1970 to 1997 (through Flaming Pie).

I am going in general chronological order so here is my proposed tracklist:

      LEFTOVERS AND RARITIES

      1970'S

      1. Oh Woman, Oh Why  (B-side to Another Day) great vocls by Paul

      2. A Love For You (Leftover from Ram and I think the "In-Laws" Soundtrack version is the best.  Great Ram like vocals

      3. Give Ireland Back to the Irish (Single that was banned in Great Britian) Love Paul's vocals and great guital work by Henry McCullough.

      4. The Mess (B-side to the My Love Single) Really good rocker and again great guitar work by Henry McCullough

      5. Country Dreamer (B-Side to the Helen Wheels Single)  Great little country tune.

      6. I LIe Around (B-Side to Live and Let Die Single

      7. Sally G (B-side to Junior's Farm Single) great little country tune written in Nashville TN

      8. Soily (b-side to Maybe I'm Amazed Rockshow single)

      9. I'm Carrying (great little deep track on London Town and B-side to the titel track London Town) later released in 2003 on the "In-Laws" Soundtrack.

      10. Girls' School (B-side to Mull of Kintyre Single) really good single that got a lot of airplay in the US in 1977

      11. Daytime Nightime Suffering (B-Side to Goodnight Suffering Single)

      12. Cage (Unreleased and during the Back to the Egg Sessions) really good relatively unknown Paul song

      13. Arrow Through Me (Best Song on Back to the Egg imo and the Remaster on Youtube is great)

      1980's

      14. Wanderlust (my favorite version in from the Give My Regards to Broad Street and there is a little snippet of Here There and Everywhere at the end which I love)

      15. The Pound is Sinking (anotehr great track on Tug of War with Paul's great vocals

      16. Rainclouds (great Tug of War leftover and B-Side to Ebony and Ivory Single) great Pipes from Paddy Malonry (RIP)

      17. Tough on a Tightrope (not on original Press to Play album but later added to the CD)

      18. Write Away (Another great added song on Press to Play) great funky and catchy Paul tune with great keyboard solo by Eddie Raynor from Split Enz

      19. Only Love Rremains Great ballad and I love the "Live" version on the Tube show with Paul playing piano with Linda and Judith Light (from Who's the Boss fame) providing back-up vocals.  Great version with a great sax player.  It was different than the studio version that had the strings.  Love Paulj's vocal with a little snippet of Great Balls of Fire (Jerry Lee Lewis) at the end.

      20. Yvonne's The One (Unrelased track from the Press to Play Sessions) great track and better than a few of the cuts on the official Album

      21. On the Wings of a Nightingale (great demo that Paul wrote for the Everly Brothers) simply a great song that should be heard by fans

      22. Lovliest Thing (Another great unreleased song until the Flowers in the Dirt Remaster) This is one of my favorites from Paul's relatively unknown songs and imo should have veen on the Flowers in the Dirt.

      23. Put It There (Live version from Tripping the Live Fantastic album and in my opinion even better than studio version.  One of Paul's best Post Beatles' songs imo

      24. My Brave Face (one of my favs on Flowers in the Dirt and it love the studio version

      25. Back On My Feet (one of paul's first collaborations with Elvis Costello and unfortunately left off the Flowers in the Dirt Album.  Even though it later became a B-side to the Once Upon a Long Ago Single) I love Paul's demo the best with just Paul at the piano with a great vocal.  So pure imo without all the bells and whistles.

      26. That Day is Done (Paul and Elvis's Demo which I think is better than studio version)

        Continuation from previous Post

        LEFTOVERS AND RARITIES ALBUM

        THE 90'S

        27. Hope of Deliverance  (LIve Perfromance from the Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC) My  favorite track from Off the Ground and I think this Live version is much better than teh studio version.  Great Band and great acoustic guitar work on this song.

        28. The Lovers that Never Were (Paul and Elvis Costello's Demo) one of Paul's greatest vocals imo and much better than the studio version

        29.  I Can't Imagine (A leftover from the Off the Ground Sessions that Paul later added on the subsequent album "Off the Ground- The Complete works.  Love this song and should have been on the original album and even a single

        30. Sweet Sweet Memories (Another leftover from the Off the Ground Sessions) Great song imo

        31. I Owe It All To You (LIve performance at the Ed Sullivan Theater in NYD) Better than studio version with Paul's great Band including Robbie McIntosh, Hamish Stuart, Paul Wickens and Blair Cunningham.  There wire great along with Paul and Lind

        32.  Young Boy (great track from Flaming Pie and great guitar work with Steve Miller)

        33. Callico Skies (Another great Flaming PIe track).  Use the new Acoustic Version from the new Flaming Pie Box Set/ Campfire Acoustic

        34. Little Willow (One of Paul's best Post Beatle songs...love it)

        35. Love Come Tumbling Down (from the 80's and should have been on the Flaming Pie imo.  Great vocals by Paul

        36. Broomstick (B-side to the Young Boy Single

        37. Same Love (Another great ballad from the 80's that should have been on the Flaming Pie album imo)

        38. Love Mix (unreleased song until the Flaming Pie Box Set, Oobu Joobu Part 6).  Very good 2 part song Love Mix and Waiting for the Sun to Shine

        39. Flying to My Home (another leftover from the Flowers in the Dirt Sessions) Great rocking song

        40. This One (great live version that was on Flowers in the Dirt.  This One was one of hte live tracks on the Tripping the Live Fantastic album

I forgot to include Waterspout from the London Town Sessions in the 70's Section.  This is a great rocker and one of Paul's best unreleased songs.

I should have also included that this initial tracklist (approximately 40 songs) would be Volume 1 of a  2 Disc Set  which goes from 1970 to 1997.

I will post a Volume 2 tracklist (also 2 Discs) which goes from 1997 (starting with Run Devil Run) to 2021.

          Thanks

            I love your enthusiasm, BJ.

Just looking at your 70's and 80's mix..... a few songs I would include... but we'd be here forever debating that... more importantly, I don't think there are any of your suggestions I disagree with... I'm happy with your suggestions. Nothing on there that I dislike. A great list!!!!

Only Love Remains...  I always liked that song... should've been given earlier attention by Paul... released later than it should've been... I  haven't seen that live version before... checked it out on You Tube....Paula Yates doing the intro... a sad story in itself....  but Paul did a great job... but Judith Light? What's the story of her doing the gig?.. I didn't know she was a singer...  I just remember her from Who's the Boss... that was a definite surprise.

Thanks so much Toris.  What I love about this concept is that for even hard core fans, most wouldn't have all these songs in their collections since so many are not on the original albums.  And Yes, you could quibble about a song selection or two (and an omission or two).  I have my own short list of songs (mostly obscure ones; other B-Sides) that I could easily substiture for a couple on my list but on the whole I think I have put down a good selectlion of songs not on original albums and "Live versions" in a few cases that are better than their original studio counterparts.  That is the key...for the most part I don't want to include songs that are exact duplicates of songs already on their respective albums.

Two good examples of the latter (better live versions) is  the track you mentioned "Only Love Remains" which I think is better than the studio Press to Play version.   Thanks for checking it out.  Are you familiar with that show called the "Tube".  And Yes that is Judith Light (from Who's The Boss fame) singing background with Linda.  They do a great job and besides Paul's great  live piano there is a Sax player who does a great job.  This "live" version is better I think than the studio version on Press to Play because it is purer.  There are no added strings.  And I loved it at the end when Paul does a little snippet of "Whole Lot of Shaking Going On" (the old Jerry Lee Lewis rock standard).  The crowd really went nuts.  Another example of "live" versions better than their studio counterparts is "Put It There" which is on the Tripping the Live Fantastic album of "live" performances from the Flowers in the Dirt tour.  I also added the live version of "This One" also on Tripping the Live Fantastic which is also very good.  2 more examples of "live" performances better than the original studio versions are on the  Off the Ground studio album.  They are "Hope of Deliverance" and "I Owe it All to You" done at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in NYC where they were trying to kick-start the promotion for the album.   I always thought that Paul's vocals on some of the "Off the Ground" studio tracks were kind of bland wheras the live versons are so much better.  As you know, Paul had a great Band back then with Hamish (great back-up vocals) Robbie (great guitar work) Blair on drums and of course Wix  on keyboards.  Check out those youtube videos and you'll see what I mean.

My first list above would be the Volume 1 (about 40 tracks) and would be a 2 Disc Set.  I used the 2Disc Set from the Pure McCartney Compilation Package from 2016 as a blueprint.  The Pure McCartney 2 Disc Set has 39 tracks so I think about 40 songs would work for 2 Disc Sets for a "Leftovers  and Rarities" Package.   Most importantly,  it would be affordable for the fans.  Volume 1 as I mentioned would cover from 1970 to 1996 right after Flaming Pie was originally released.

I will do Volume 2  in a few days.  Volume 2 would  also be a 2 Disc Set and include about 40 songs from Run Devil Run to the current time of 2021.

There is one song (Paul has so many "Leftover" type of songs) that I inadvertently missed on my 70's Section above.  It was from the London Town Sessions and called Waterspout.  It is a daft title and with some daft lyrics but I think it is a great one imho.  So catchy and in retrospect should have been on the original "London Town" album.  But that is what I love I about Paul.  He is so prolific and probably has more quality "extra" songs than any other living Artist.  He has so many extra "Leftover" songs that never made it on their respective original album.  His extra songs which I titled "Leftovers" are in most cases of high qualit;y.  They are not "throw aways" for the most part.

Thanks as always for your comments.  I love your comments because you have so much knowledge of Paul's incredible Discography.  You are a fellow big time fan like me.

Toris...Just a quick question.  You mentioned Paula Yates who was the lady who introduced Paul in the Video.  That name sounds familiar but I can't place her.  What was the sad thing that happened to her?

As far as Judith Light?  I was reading how much Theatre stuff that she did prior to making it big on"Who's the Boss".  Not a surprise that she can sing given all of her Theatre experience.  She and Linda sounded real good together singing backup for Paul.  I thought "Only Love Remains" sounded real good throughout and even better at thel end.  I love it when Paul does something very spontaneous like the little snippet of "Whole Lotta Shakin Going On".  The crowd really got into it too.

My first thought about any of these type of suggested projects is the mindset of Paul and his management team. I think their main focus now is doing expensive deluxe re-issue packages.  They have plenty more albums to give this treatment and it seems to me this is a good money maker for Paul.  If he was to do anything special for his 80th birthday I could see a new album before any type of "Rarities" or "Compilation" album.  I have no idea of the status of the musical "It's A Wonderful Life"  but if they still want to put it on the stage Paul needs to be heavily involved with re-writes or new music for the show. In other words, he has plenty of things to keep him busy and being involved with your suggested type of albums would not be a high priority IMO

Personally, I think many years from now the McCartney estate will do an "Anthology" type of release and mirror it to be like The Beatles Anthology only this will be only things from his non-Beatle days. This wil be the final attempt to make money from his recordings and they can basically empty the vaults at one time. If I am correct, I hope they pick a person who has love for his solo career and will do a good job.

Now for your idea. I love something that would give fans B-sides and different takes of deeper cut songs and even a few that are better known. I just think you would need to make this at most a double CD to make it commercially viable.  I love your suggestions and off the top of my head (lol) can't think of anything I would include that you have not mentioned.

The sad story of Paula Yates:

                      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paula_Yates

On 17 September 2000, on Pixie's 10th birthday, Yates died at her home in Notting Hill at the age of 41 of a heroin overdose. The coroner ruled that it was not a suicide, but a result of "foolish and incautious" behaviour.[20][21] Yates was discovered in the presence of her then-four-year-old daughter, Tiger.[22] A friend disclosed during the inquest that Yates had not taken illegal drugs for nearly two years, and the coroner, Paul Knapman, concluded that though the amount Yates had taken would not have killed an addict, as "an unsophisticated taker of heroin" Yates had no tolerance to the drug.[23]

Soon after Yates's death, Geldof assumed foster custody of Tiger Lily so that she could be brought up with her three older half-sisters, Fifi, Peaches and Pixie. Her aunt, Tina Hutchence, the sister of Michael Hutchence, was denied permission by the judge to apply for Tiger Lily to live with her in California.[24] In 2007, Geldof adopted Tiger Lily and changed her surname to Geldof;[25] as of 2019, Tiger's legal name is Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence Geldof.[26]

On 7 April 2014, Yates's second-oldest daughter, Peaches, also died of a heroin overdose, aged 25. One day before her death, she uploaded a picture to her Instagram of herself as a young girl and her mother under the caption "Me and my Mum."[27]

Hey Yankeefan...Thanks for your reply.  Don't know if you saw my latest post where I cleaned up the Tracklisting for at least Volume 1 (from 1970 to 1996 (when Flaming Pie was released).  Volume 1 would be a 2 Disc Set where I used the Pure McCartney 2 Disc Set that was released in 2016 as a guide.  It had a total of 39 tracks similar to the 40 tracks that I have here.

In a ouple of days I'll do a Volume 2 Tracklisting which would again have about 40 Tracks which would start from Run Devil Run (like 1998 and go to the more current years a la 2021.  You could easily get 40 songs that were not on their respective albums since Paul always has extra songs that don't make the final album cuts.  What surprises me is that most of these extra songs are not just "throw aways".  In many cases, they are as good as some of the tracks that actually make the final cuts.

You make a lot of good points.  As much as I like Mr. McCartney, I'm not the type of consumer that just spends hundreds of dollars for these big expensive packages that Paul and team has recently done with albums like Flowers in the Dirt and Flaming Pie.  Probably Back to the Egg and London Town will be next.  I'm cheap and I want to put any extra  money I have on personal  travel and trips.  That is why I would like a package like I'm proposing here where each 2 Disc Package with about 40 songs/tracks in total would cost at Target like $20.  each.  I don't want to pay for all the extra stuff that Paul and Company includes in these big Box Sets etc etc.   I just want the CD's which are much less expensive.  Being in Marketing my whole life, I understand what Paul and his team are trying to do with stringing  out more individual albums not done at this point but I'm just not a buyer.  I just buy the inexpensive packages from Target.  A 2 CD package when they are fiirst released only cost about $20.

For these reasons, I dont think something like I'm proposing will be viable for what the McCartney team wants.  They will continue to string out these packages over the next few years.  After Back to the Egg and London Town, they will then do Press to Play, Off the Ground etc etc.  Basically I agree with you that it's probably not going to happen.

                        Thanks for your imput.

Actually  some of the "extra" songs are better than songs on the original album. "In A Hurry" and "Home Tonight" from "Egypt Station" is perfect example of two "extra" songs that are better than a couple of songs on the original album IMO. I am like you and I am not into these big expensive  packages, just give me a "no frills" CD with the music I want to hear.  I hate to be a "downer" because I really like your ideas and would love this music, it is just I know the McCartney team is all about the money and your idea would not be a big money maker.

You are right about even hardcore fans don't have many of these B sides, I am one fof them. Looking at your list, I probably have only 4-5 B side songs.

BTW - Judith Light had quite a Broadway career, I think she won 2 Tony awards. I may be wrong but I don't think she did Broadway musicals,  I think she did "straight" plays on Broadway. Actually, I remember her more from the days she starred on Soap Opera "One Live To Live"  which was in the late 70's -lol

Hi BJ... Nancy has already sent info on Paula.... but basically, she ran off with Michael Hutchence... who I love... I love INXS... I was shattered when he died... she never recovered after his death.... which led to her death from a heroin overdose... years later, her daughter died, also from a heroin overdose.. and after Paula died, custody of Michael and Paula's daughter Tiger Lily went to Paula's husband, Bob Geldof... a man that Michael did not like... and I don't like  either, because of his treatment of Michael.... a tragic story, all round.  Tragic.

I will speak no more about it because it is very upsetting.

I wish Paul picked Only Love Remains as the opening single from Press to Play, even if Stranglehold is my favourite.

Thanks Nancy and Toris for your information on Paula Yates.  I knew I remembered the name of being the wife of Bob Geldorf.

Maybe Nancy or yourself could post the video of the "live" version of "Only Love Remains" on the British show called the "Tube" from Youtube.  Paula Yates introduces Paul just before the video.  I would love for the fans to see this video of Linda and Judith Light singing back-up to Paul on this great Press to Play song.   Just love Paul on the piano singing this great ballad.   The Sax player is also great.  Love the little snippet of "Whole Lot of Shaking Going On" at the end.

                                    18. Jenny Wren (Live from the Chaos and Creation at Abbey Road)

                                    17. This Never Happened Before (appears on the Soundtrack for the "Lake House" movie; originally on Chaos and Creaton)

                                    18. Too Much Rain (one of the best songs on Chaos and Creation)

                                    19. She Is So Beautiful (Extra song on the Japanese Edition of Chaos and Creation; great ballad)

                                    20. House of Wax (Live and B-side to Ever Present Past ; Live version from the special Amoeba Show)

                                    21. That Was Me (Live and B-side to Ever Present Past; Live version from the special Amoeba Show)

I absolutely love this list for several reasons. First, McCartney is fantastic doing 50's rock as I have mentioned many times before and "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" is terrific example. I absolutely adore his vocal on "Lonesome Town"by Ricky Nelson. In addition, the original songs he wrote for "Run Devil Run" like "What It Is" fit perfectly with the other 50's classic songs.  It is such a shame that McCarney never did "That Was Me" and "House Of Wax" live more often,  the live version of these songs are great !! Since CHAOS is possibly my all time favorite McCartney album the songs listed make my day. The songwiting "groove" McCartney was in during that period is proved by how many excellent B-side songs he wrote in addition to the fantastic CHAOS album. I liked the DR album a bit more than most people and loved his vocal on "Lonely Road".  I am going to tease you BJ about not including "About You" from DR -lol. To sum it up, this list is my favorite so far.

                                      Hey Yankeefan,

I'm still laughing at your last sentence above.  You're  absolutely right...About You would have been a better selection as a very good rocker on Driving Rain over Your Loving Flame.  I only put Your Loving Flame on the list because of the fact it was a "live" version that was pretty good from my memory.

I'm glad I did this exercise.  I forgot how many good "leftover or extra songs" there were during the Chaos and Creation Sessions.  I love almost all of them.

I would buy these "Leftover and Rarities" CD's in a heartbeat especially at $20 for each disc (4 Discs total...Volume 1 and 2).  It was quite easy to come up with like 80 songs and I still left a few good ones off.  Paul needs this type of package.  It just shows you how prolific he is by having this many songs that for the most part he left off his Solo albums.  In my opinion, the bulk of this list are, as you say, good quality songs.  How many living music starts could say this.  Only Bob Dylan has continued in their old age to be that prolific with "new" good songs.

                                      Glad you liked this List.

Thanks Nancy.  You have the right one.  And Yes, that is Judith Light singing backup with Linda.  Great ballad imo.

                                            Nancy.

If you could do me a favor...could you look on Youtube for Hope of Deliverance and put the "live" video from the Ed Sullivan Theatre in NYC.  One view I think shows how good Paul's Band was and in my mind the song (Hope of Deliverance) done "live" is much better than the studio counterpart.  I think that Paul's vocal on the album on many of the tracks sounded so more bland.  In the live version, you also have Hamish and Linda providing back up vocals that you can clearly hear.  I think the boardies will like seeing thel video.  thanks
