Love the song but might be hard for him to sing high notes of this one at 71.

When Paul tours with a new album, he almost always does 4 songs from it, occasionally 5 (as in the 1993 set list posted). That's been consistent every time he's done a full tour shortly after releasing a new album. Of course, since he didn't tour for MAF, it's been a while. but I'd be shocked if he doesn't do 4 new tunes wherever he plays this winter.
-
I'm thinking he'll do 3 or 4 new songs in Japan and depending on the response they get, he might pare them down to 2 or 3 in the midst of the standard concert set.

I hope you are correct but interested in what songs you think he will drop from setlist to accomadate songs from "New".

I absolutely hate going to a concert and not know or at least be familiar with the songs the artist is doing. Of course that could never happen to me at a Paul show, but I've been to shows where it has happened with other artists and especially if I've spent good money on the show then I want to hear stuff I know. Now if it was an intimate setting, and I paid a cover charge for a show, then they can do anything they want. jmo
My very first concert was R.E.M's Green Tour. I went with two huge fans. I liked R.E.M, but -- at the time -- I only owned Document and Green -- and I loved their cover of "Superman" from an earlier album. At the concert, it was helpful that my two friends filled me in on the songs I didn't recognize, but it was a great show, regardless. Because of that concert, I bought their older albums. I did a similar favor for this nice couple I'd met at Macca's St. Louis concert last year. They LOVED that I could explain all the songs they didn't know. All they had to do was turn toward me -- and I'd be their human-wiki. If memory serves, I had to inform them on "Here Today," "My Valentine," "Junior's Farm" and a couple others. We got along great -- bought each other rounds of beers, etc. It was fun.

Why does it have to be a bad thing if an audience actually doesn't know every single song at a concert? I like to be enlightened as much as entertained at a show. There's a lot more room for new/obscure songs than most of us think.
I agree with you totally. If I was to see McCartney in concert after "New" was released I would love to hear some of these songs live. This is the reason I loved tours like 1989 and 1993 for example. They both featured a bunch of songs from his latest record and the audience somehow survived not knowing every song. IMO - I would love McCartney to pick "obscure" songs from his solo/Wings career instead of "obscure" Beatle songs like "Beneffit For Mr. Kite". Wouldn't be nice if some of these Beatle fans would give his new music a chance in concert and actually try to enjoy it instead of leaving on a bathroom break or start playing with their cell phone. Finally, I just believe that McCartney worries more about his "Beatle Paul" fans in regards to his setlist than he does to people who have followed his entire career and actually spend money on his recent CD's.
this.

I love witnessing that sort of kindness at Paul concerts...not too common elsewhere! At my first Paul show I didn't know Highway,Calico Skies,Mrs. Vandebilt, or Sing The Changes...but I was VERY much encouraged by that concert to go out and fill up my Paul library even more...needless to say, I haven't had that problem since.

Exactly. I haven't been to too many concerts but there's always been songs I've never heard before and it broadens my view. When I saw Elton John I didn't know Levon, Sad Songs or others that were relatively new and I really like both of them. I saw Icehouse as part of a festival with Billy Joel where I only knew two songs they played but two of the songs I heard there have become some of my favourites. Sure it's good to know the songs you're hearing but it's also good to expand your knowledge of an artist.

Hey? Just thought I'd get this thread ready for tomorrow? Saving Martin some sweat on creating the thread. We have one confirmed song that was played tonight at the rehearsal, and the platform is right in the same spot as the rehearsal photos. The confirmed song is "Let 'Em In" Just 24 hours and counting....
Starting Oct 14/15, want eveyone to listen to "New" and make their prediction how many songs McCartney will do off this CD in concert and what songs he will do.

Oh- I am READY! The given is "New"...I think we should guess four more tracks when the time comes.
-
Going by just the titles, the obvious no-brainer is "Everybody Out There." Sounds like a potential opener, but I'm not getting my hopes too high.

Hope so and IMO, McCartney songs for the most part sound better live than on original studio recording.

Now that I've heard the song...I don't think it's quite right for an opener. I could be wrong; folks seem to like this song much more than I do.

Actually, I think he should open with four songs without pausing and start with "Save Us", "Everybody Out There", "Jet" and wrap it up with something like "Paperback Writer". IMO - Like I have said before, think "Everybody Out There" is more a concert song and will not have as much appeal just listening to it at home.

I still think 8 Daze a Weak seems like a fab opener. Not a popular stance it seems. But there you have it. Venus and Mars are Alright Tonite seemed too slow to me in a way to open with, but it IS quite dramatic, and does become rock-y after a mo.

Too slow? Are you kidding? That Venus and Mars/Rock Show intro is awesome! The way Venus and Mars builds up to Rock show is, like you said, dramatic, I loved seeing it during the Up and Coming Tour, even though it was a truncated version.
