"Out There" 2013 Setlist Critique and Suggestions

I am cautiously optimistic Paul is going to re vamp his set list, adding, I predict, at least five new songs from his upcoming NEW CD.
I hope you are correct but I doubt it especially in Japan where they have not heard the Beatle hits live.
Japan hasn't heard the Beatles hits live? What are you talking about? Paul previously played Japan in 1990 and 1993.

That was 20 yrs ago and McCartney plays a lot more Beatle songs in setlist now than in 1990 or 1993. See below from show I saw in 1993 1.Drive My Car Play Video (The Beatles song) 2.Coming Up Play Video 3.Looking for Changes Play Video 4.Jet Play Video (Wings song) 5.All My Loving Play Video (The Beatles song) 6.Let Me Roll It Play Video (Wings song) 7.Peace in the Neighbourhood Play Video 8.Off the Ground Play Video 9.Can't Buy Me Love Play Video (The Beatles song) 10.Robbie's Bit (Thanks Chet) Play Video 11.Good Rocking Tonight Play Video (Roy Brown cover) 12.We Can Work It Out Play Video (The Beatles song) 13.I Lost My Little Girl Play Video 14.Ain't No Sunshine Play Video (Bill Withers cover) 15.Hope of Deliverance Play Video 16.Michelle Play Video (The Beatles song) 17.Biker Like an Icon Play Video 18.Here, There and Everywhere Play Video (The Beatles song) 19.Yesterday Play Video (The Beatles song) 20.My Love Play Video (Wings song) 21.Lady Madonna Play Video (The Beatles song) 22.C'mon People Play Video 23.Magical Mystery Tour Play Video (The Beatles song) 24.Let It Be Play Video (The Beatles song) 25.Live and Let Die Play Video (Wings song) 26.Paperback Writer Play Video (The Beatles song) 27.Back in the U.S.S.R. That is still over 10 yrs and you know McCartney "worries" about the first time fan at his concerts. You honestly think that he is going to replace 5 Beatle songs with new songs in a place he has not played in over 10 years. Maybe he will play "New" (single) but doubt much else.

This set list is from the web site and is not completely correct in that JET and BACK IN THE USSR was not played at a good many shows. Nor was I LOST MY LITTLE GIRL and AIN'T NO SUNSHINE.

Again, this list is flawed. For the Charlotte show in 1993, McCartney actually SHORTENED the set list from the regular tour to accommodate the televise broadcast. Not only did he not play JET, BACK IN THE USSR, I LOST MY LITTLE GIRL and AIN'T NO SUNSHINE, but he also cut out a few others.

Regardless, that wasn't the last set Macca has played in Japan! SPOILER ALERT...2013 SETLIST SPOILER ALERT... Eight Days a Week Junior's Farm Listen To What The Man Said My Valentine 1985 Your Mother Should Know Lovely Rita Mrs. Vandebilt All Together Now Ob La Di, Ob La Da Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite! Hi, HI, Hi TWELVE songs out of thirty eight have not been played in Japan. Honestly, I thought there would be more. Looking at it from this approach, I'd say Paul should be able to make room for up to six new album songs without even touching these twelve!.......but he won't.......

Yes it is, double checked with DVD recording I made of concert from TV while I was at concert. Anyway, the point was McCartney played less Beatle songs then than now and did not think he would replace many of the Beatle songs forr new ones in Japan - IMO.

I agee, no way there will be 6 new songs from "New" in Japan. If he does do it, I would literally faint. I believe he will do the song "New" and maybe another song but that will be it IMO. I am not expert about his setlist but don't think he did much from MAF in US outside of "Dance Tonight" and "Only Mama Knows". I believe he did "House of Wax" and "That Was Me" in Europe.

Then it was edited for TV. But ok, he did all those songs in Charlotte in 93. You are saying he played JET and AIN'T NO SUNSHINE and they were broadcast? My memory must be going!

Why does it have to be a bad thing if an audience actually doesn't know every single song at a concert? I like to be enlightened as much as entertained at a show. There's a lot more room for new/obscure songs than most of us think.

The MAF album tracks sort of got screwed because of the divorce and lack of touring. In the few shows he did in 2007...he played Dance Tonight, Only Mama Knows, That Was Me, House of Wax, AND Nod Your Head. They were NYC, LA, London, Paris...but then 2008 rolls around and we're down to Dance Tonight & Only Mama Knows. It stayed this way in 2009. 2010 we're just down to Dance Tonight. 2013: No tracks from MAF.

I agree with you totally. If I was to see McCartney in concert after "New" was released I would love to hear some of these songs live. This is the reason I loved tours like 1989 and 1993 for example. They both featured a bunch of songs from his latest record and the audience somehow survived not knowing every song. IMO - I would love McCartney to pick "obscure" songs from his solo/Wings career instead of "obscure" Beatle songs like "Beneffit For Mr. Kite". Wouldn't be nice if some of these Beatle fans would give his new music a chance in concert and actually try to enjoy it instead of leaving on a bathroom break or start playing with their cell phone. Finally, I just believe that McCartney worries more about his "Beatle Paul" fans in regards to his setlist than he does to people who have followed his entire career and actually spend money on his recent CD's.
-
I absolutely hate going to a concert and not know or at least be familiar with the songs the artist is doing. Of course that could never happen to me at a Paul show, but I've been to shows where it has happened with other artists and especially if I've spent good money on the show then I want to hear stuff I know. Now if it was an intimate setting, and I paid a cover charge for a show, then they can do anything they want. jmo

But then why put out a new CD if not to promote it? It seems like this is a highly anticipated CD from McCartney, so he really should play five songs off of it over the next year. IMO!

I agree with you and hope McCartney does play a bunch of it live but I have my doubts. I just don't see him replacing that many songs in his current setlist. Like I have said previously, I think it is a no brainer he will perform the single "New" and probably add one more. I just looked at setlist from Barclay Center concert and beats me what McCartney would change to accomodate songs from "New". IMO - I would eliminate "Let Me Roll It","All Together Now", "Benefit For Mr. Kite" and "My Valentine" for songs off the CD "New". I know McCartney would not do this but my reasons are fairly simple. "Let Me Roll It" has been played to death. "All Together Now" and "Benefit For Mr. Kite" are not top notch Beatle songs so no great loss removing them IMO. "My Valentine" has been played already a bunch and it seems like the single "New" is about Nancy so he is still doing a song about her.
