God forbid he do something from oh let's say the last 20 years. Besides a couple. It is a fine setlist but why does he sell his solo work so short?
What gets me is that McCartney never seems to want to please the people who have actually bought his records/CD's from the last 20 years by actually performing a bunch of it live. Wonder if McCartney has a clue that people actually like songs he has recorded since 1979 when Wings ended. Plus, the only reason it is not just one is because one of the songs was written for his wife.
I would say that the fact he performed several Beatles songs which he has never done live shows that he knows exactly what he is doing and he obviously has a clue what the people want. Also the fact that he did the exact opposite of what people on this board want him to do, by adding more Beatles and removing solo songs, makes it even clearer.
Yes, the majority of people would love a entire Beatle show probably and I have said that before that but I am not one of them. It is quite easy for McCartney, crank out any Beatle number and he knows the people will go crazy. Myself and others have acknowledged that we xpect him to sing a bunch of Beatle songs. I think we find it amazing that he does a concert of 38 songs and only two are less than two decades old. Finally, do you think the crowd was really praying he was going to do "All Together Now" - lol.
HHAHAHAHA laughing at Al Together nw-- maybe the band wanted him to play that..

I gotta say I'm not really enthusiastic about the setlist. I mean there is no - I'm down - I saw her standing there - I've got a feeling and so on but 'all together now' (sorry, but IMO one of the worst beatles song) and still songs like ob-la-di, the long and winding road (ok, I might 'offend' some users here, I just dont like it). Plus some of Johns song (though I like he played 'eight days a week') ... Dont get me wrong, its still great to see Paul live, but I just think the setlist is kind of .. unfortunate
-
Why are we holding "All Together Now" up to the same standard as "Maybe I'm Amazed"? It's a fun lil' sing-a-long, people. Very appropriate for a concert's acoustic set -- especially, following a downer like "Here Today."

Agreed. FAR too many Beatles song, not nearly enough Wings stuff (but not frikkin Band on the Run songs). and it's criminal he has all but ignored the past 30 yeas of amazing solo work in favour of the same boring tired old Beatles songs...

Wow, that's just what I'd expect from this forum. Everyone gets on here everyday and complains about no changes to the set and this and that and blah blah blah, then he finally does a noteworthy overhaul and everyone is still complaining about not changing this song or that one. Can we put this into perspective? Songs that were not played last tour... -Eight Days a Week- #1 hit single...NEVER PLAYED LIVE. -Listen To What The Man Said- #1 hit single...Hasn't been played by Paul post-wings!!! Maybe their third biggest song!!! -We Can Work it Out- #1 Double A Side single...hasn't been played since 2003 - Another Day- First post-beatle single...ONLY played BRIEFLY on the '93 tour... -Your Mother Should Know- DEEP beatle track (if there is such a thing)...never played live! Pretty damn cool! -All Together Now- Fantastic sing-a-long for a live show, NEVER played live... -Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!- F-ing CRAZY! But I'm REALLY excited to hear this! -Hi, Hi, Hi- One of his most Rockin' singles and hasn't been played since wings! - Lovely Rita- One of the only true blue macca tracks from pepper that hadn't been played yet, a much welcomed addition from everyone I'm sure! So let's look at a general ratio of Beatles/Wings/Solo...I'll use setlists of shows I've seen, since he does seem to shake it a tad from show to show... 2009- 22 Beatles/ 6 Wings/ 7 Solo 2010- 22 Beatles/ 10 Wings/ 5 Solo 2011- 25 Beatles/ 7 Wings/ 5 Solo 2012- 26 Beatles/ 6 Wings/ 6 Solo --- 2013?- 23 Beatles/ 9 Songs/ 4 Solo While the solo music seems to be getting the shaft, the Wings music is sort of "climbing the latter" again and you'd think that would be enough for a new tour at the moment...plenty of time for some change if you don't think so anyway...

The consistent complaint I'm hearing is the glaring lack of material from his relatively more-recent solo albums. I love the setlist changes he's made...but, unfortunately, it is not the setlist of a current recording artist. It is the setlist of an oldies act. But, as I've said, South America is a place of perpetual Beatlemania. This leg of the tour makes sense over there.
-
I agree...Great post WixRocks!! I am very pleased with the set list! It is true that there is so much material over the past 30 years that isn't included, but I love hearing Paul play anything "live" and appreciate any and all song changes he makes!!

I'd like to see those numbers from each of those years...flipped.

Audi.. I totally disagree.. Paul is no oldies act.. I think at times it's a melancholy experience... when lots of us were kids and we'd hear those records for the first time... something about some of those songs just hits a cord and hits the heart... and spirit the lyrics the melodies & the age .. as kids impresionable One of those that is not Let Me Roll It- MOO I think, when people were first learning about the Beatles at Whatever age.. the feeling of shock and awe.. and total discovery of what a rocking band this was- & spining those records for the 1st time------ Wings came second.. and people said "hey, Not a bad lil band he has their also... MOO moving from one group onto the other.. but it's core base of the intro to the Beatles... remember when? Paul's come a long way in Listening to What The Fans want..It must be hard to please everybody ops: Songs never played live- is an honor for the fans to hear we may never hear them again ... ps.. a few Wings I'd like to hear - but, it's all good

EIGHT DAYS A WEEK was written by Paul McCartney.

I don't! But opinions aside, it isn't realistic at all. Paul McCartney is special and not really comparable. He certainly is not an oldies act either. I don't know any oldies acts that sell out stadiums. The Beach Boys are an oldies act. An Oldies act is something that takes songs that were hits back in their hey-day and just keeps cramming them at you. Paul takes songs that are 30+ years old, and consistently changes most of them. He has the biggest body of work in the history of modern music and while he could be more adventurous, the man has a LOT to accomplish in a night. He has to please so many different people...the newbies, the skeptic seconds, the significant other that was dragged along, the rock dinosaur that's seen him 100 times, the beatle fans, the wings fans, the solo fans (does anyone JUST like the solo music!? ) and the most important one....JOE SHMO. Joe Shmo is the one that won't be logical. He will be at the watercooler Monday morning talking to the rest of the world about how Paul "surprised everyone with Eleanor Rigby" and "told great stories about George Harrison and Jimi Hendrix"...that is the general public. That's probably about 60% of the fans at EVERY show.

Exactly. And also Paul has such a big age range of people at his shows, generations of fans that pack those stadiums and arenas to see/hear him. If Paul was an "Oldies act" you mostly likely wouldn't see kids and teenagers at his shows.
