"Out There" 2013 Setlist Critique and Suggestions

DrivinFan:
Does anyone know what happened with the poll that was held in Japan. Supposedly the most voted McCartney song was going to be added to the setlist.
I hear they voted for Let it be - they'll feel so let down when he doesn't play it (yes i'm joking, i don't know what was voted for actually. I just know that despite me usually being quite accepting of the setlist, even i now think please just drop some of the regular songs... for some solo or wings, please! Even casual fans must glance through the set list and think it's the same as when they saw him 2 years ago! Then again who cares what casuals think )

I have a feeling songs won't be shifting quite like they have in the past. Just my guess though...
I reckon you are right on the money!

With the great sales in Japan, wish he would just let go and really rock the NEW album. It's such a solid album and there are so many great songs that deserve to be heard! I also agree with whomever said more Wings songs too! Was sad to see Junior's Farm go too! Heck, what ever happened to Hope of Deliverance? That was hardly played.

With Save us being added, it would be between Juniors Farm or All my Loving, though I would prefer if Paperback Writer would go, has been there long enough.
Maybe, but I thought Save Us would be a good opener. Dropping 8 Days would have been better. Save Us Jet Juniors Farm would have been a great opening
Agreed.

Junior's Farm and Letting Go were played at sound check, I hope McCartney mixes things up and plays these a couple of times in Japan.

For what it may be worth... I saw Elton John last night. This current tour has sort of a dual promotion purpose...his latest album "The Diving Board" is barely two months old...however his earth-shattering double-album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" celebrates a 40th Birthday as well. As a result, we got two songs from The Diving Board...the opening track and the single. We EIGHT songs from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. ...I'm happy to hear Paul is playing four songs from New!!!

There will soon be 3 concerts in Tokyo, maybe then we will see minor variations in the setlist.

I really, really doubt it. It's possible, but I put absolutely no realistic thought into the idea. It will only get less and less over time. A realistic hope would be...I hope he is still playing four new songs when he makes his way around the rest of the globe next year!
-
Four new songs is pretty good, all things considered. It looks like the first three Japan shows have the exact same set list, which I find surprising.

He did swap "I Saw Her Standing There" for "Get Back" at the last show per the set list posted in the other thread.

"Eat At Home" seems to be a popular track in Japan. It was even included in the Japanese edition of the "Wingspan" 2-CD set, so it would be a pleasant surprise for the Tokyo shows.

Think so as well apart from Get Back/I saw her standing there change over.

Heard 'She Loves You' through shuffle for the first time in years. How great would it be if... 'All Together Now' got added earlier.

I'd rather not hear She Loves You. It's too John & Paul and WAY too historically important. I think the only way I'd appreciate this is in some sort of tribute fashion at a one off show. But not a reguarly overdone staple in the set like "Here Today" and "Day Tripper" have become and "A Day in The Life" had become.

Haha, you know I would be the first one to say I would rather hear 100 deeper solo cuts than one more Beatles song, but I just don't get his recent additions. I was a bit out of it since the whole promo around the new material and the lack of any gigs outside the US was very underwhelming and demotivating, and since it's almost 2 years since I had the chance to see him, now I've been watching a bit of footage of all the things the EU-folks had to miss in 2013 I can honestly say I don't care about what he's playing and what shape his voice is in: it's Paul McCartney in 2013 playing those songs in the original key, and that's a true treasure.

We are in agreement there.

And then I forgot to tell which made me log-in again: 'On My Way To Work' soundcheck is 'out there'.

Maybe at the upcoming Beatles tribute next february Paul and Ringo will perform "She Loves You" or even "I Want To Hold Your Hand". It's the 50th anniversary of the Ed Sullivan broadcast, after all.
