Set List critique

One of the better ones posted on here! I appreciate not only the balance in era, but the flow as well. Although, "Hello, Goodbye" at the end confuses me a bit.

I would love to hear 'Only Love Remains' live someday, don't you think it can be fantastic?
Paul performed it on UK television back when it was released; I think this was on Jools Holland's show "The Tube."

And the Royal Variety Concert...with David Frost's gushing intro.

Actually, come to think of it, my set list order is not completely thought through. I agree with you that Hello Goodbye is not a good one to end on McCartney's current ending (the Abbey Road medley) is perfect and maybe I should just leave that in, but he seems to have done that forever, so I just wanted something else to end on... Maybe he should go completely left field and end with the Frog Chorus Oh wait, I've got it - last song should be Long and Winding Road.

I'd go see a show with Dandysweets' set list any day! Alas, I fear that Hell will freeze over before our boy does a show like this.

I agree! Dandy's list is just dandy!

Way too late in his career to attempt the vocal on "Oh Darling". Shame he did not do it 15-20 years ago, would have been awesome.

Might be worth a shot -- it's in the same key as "Birthday," which is a screamer also.

Had a great time at Lolla. So many home run songs with the crowd. "Here Today" and "My Valentine" were the only legit strikeouts. He should consider putting those on the shelf. Here's my wish-setlist: Magical Mystery Tour All My Loving She Loves You I Want To Hold Your Hand I Saw Her Standing Her Standing There Save Us Back in the USSR Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Everybody Out There Band on the Run Hello Goodbye Penny Lane One After 909 A Hard Day's Night Get Back I?m Down Junior?s Farm Yesterday I Will Dance Tonight I?m Looking Through You I''ve Just Seen a Face I?ll Follow The Sun Early Days Maybe I'm Amazed Lady Madonna New Queenie Eye Let It Be Hey Jude You?re Sixteen Something A Day in the Life (Instrumental on John?s vocal sections - let the crowd sing those parts) Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) She Came in Through the Bathroom Window Golden Slumbers Carry That Weight The End ---------

Just back to KC from Lolla. Was about halfway back from stage. Crowd was okay, but some indifference during several songs, especially My Valentine, Here Today, and Mr.Kite. Loved that 1985, Hi Hi Hi, and Band on th Run were received so well. And of course Live And Let Die went over Huge! Paul sounded a bit hoarse, but simply nailed Maybe I'm Amazed; went over really well with the young crowd. Solid show.

Glad you enjoyed it. There's the pattern though. Here Today, My Valentine... For a scenario such as this, he needed to toss those types and rock out I would have thought. Makes it more curious as to why again, he dropped Temporary Secretary. Honey Hush would have gone down well too. He rolled that out a few years ago at Coachella.

Never going to happen unless he chooses a different tribute song for John, or writes a more rocking love song for Nancy!

Couldn't we all just pretend that "About You" was written for Nancy? Although I can't blame the guy, it is almost criminal that "About You" will most likely never again be acknowledged by Paul McCartney for the rest of our lives.

About You is a great, great little song...so of course he never did it live, where the instruments could have dramatically fleshed out this gritty rocker.

Oh! Darling is perhaps the greatest vocal ever on a Beatles record. And therefore, through pure deduction, one of the greatest vocals ever. We all know he screamed himself hoarse before even going into the studio to get it. I'm not even sure he could've pulled that off routinely during the Wings Over America tour when his voice was at its absolute peak. The only way he'll pull it off now in concert is to say, "Well, I'm getting older, so this will be a stretch, so I'm going to do it a little different...."..... Pulls it back a little, but the crowd nevertheless goes nuts on hearing it in a softer form... 'cos it's a cracker of a song... And then he launches into a similar version of Why Don't we Do it in the Road (one of my faves, and the Anthology version did show a softer version). Those two songs are my favorite Paul vocals ever. I'll take listening to them again, even if in a "self-administered apologetic" form... Because they will never, ever be played live again in their original form. I'll take that.

Works for me, I love that song !! It killed me he did not choose to play that one on DR tour.

A while back, I'd found an '05 audio-interview of Brian Ray around the time of the US Tour. The interviewer specifically mentioned "About You," raving about what a great track it was. He asked if it would ever be added to the setlsit.

I wonder if Brian ever told Mr. McCartney what the interviewer said, the song rocks and would have been great live.

I've never understood why people get so excited about "About You." It's okay, but I can think of at least a dozen never- or rarely-played McCartney rockers I'd rather hear.
