"Ob-La-Di" and the '05 performances of "Fixing A Hole" are two more that come to mind.
Plus 'Lovely Rita', 'I Will', 'Ram On', 'I've Just Seen A Face'.
I mentioned 'Rita' & 'Face'...forgot about "I Will" & "Ram On"...but I was just talking about the current set (AKA 'out there') but while we're on it, both of those are really weird choices to change the key on..."Ram On" fits right under the hands on the uke in C#m.

He can't sing it anymore. At least, nowhere near the original key. And Paul McCartney seldom changes keys.
I've never understood the hang-up there. I hate to question Paul's musicianship like this, but I wonder if some are just too much of a challenge for him to make the change after all these years of playing them in the key he wrote them in? Of course, some would really be a bear to play...for example, say he dropped "1985" from Cm to Bbm...who the heck would want to play that piano riff in Bbm?!?
Maybe he should just use a synth/electric piano that can do the transposition for him?
I'd rather hear him stretch his pipes a bit than compromise his piano.

Really? I'm the opposite. I tense up every time "Maybe I'm Amazed" starts. So, I'd rather that he either (a) stuck with songs that he can still sing well or (b) changed the key (even if that means switching to an electric piano in some cases).

"Maybe I'm Amazed" is probably the exception to the rule...

My Salamander:
So what are the chances we'll hear Silly Love Songs and see the Rickenbacker for the first time in 25+ years? Any bets?
About the same as me becoming the President Of The United States - lol
-
I think (hope) there is a good chance he brings out the rick this tour. It's the one way he can change it up and get the fanbase excited. I know I would be.
-
I hope he does too...but I certainly don't think he will. Going out tonight to see a tribute band...I haven't in a very long time...I always say the best one around is Paul McCartney!

I would love to see that, but those things are HEAVY. But then so are Les Pauls, and that doesn't seem to stop him (though I suspect that the one with the custom paint job is chambered - does anyone know?). For a long time, I have thought that it would be great if Rickenbacker made and presented him with a special chambered 4001 for live performances. Perhaps it could even be a short scale one if that's what he's more comfortable with now? (Yes, I know it wouldn't sound exactly like a standard one, but it would be a lot closer than the Hofner.) I've thought about suggesting it on the Rickenbacker forum (which is read by the owner), but I never got around to it...
-
If he pulled a Rickenbacker to play Silly Love Songs, he'd look like a dickhead. Maybe he could don his 76 Wings clobber too? Yuk.
-
OK, so that would be a "no" for "moptops."

I'm pretty excited to see the man next week. I have been fortunate enough to see Sir Paul several times since 2001 ( Both in NYC as well as the SF area). I'm in my early 40s. The last couple of times I had seen Sir Paul in San Francisco, it was a bit repetitive. I must admit. I do not mind seeing him solo and doing Foxy Lady, but to hear the story about how Jimmy Hendrix opened with Sgt Pepper, while I think it is great, Sir Paul has been telling it for several years now. Certainly there must be more insight and other stories to tell? Also, site specific ones? Different Songs, new dialog? I know it's a big, coordinated production, but would love for some spontaneity. I think Sir Paul can also afford to challenge his audience a bit more. New material is always welcomed too. There are many great songs that have not been around for long, so Sir Paul has not played for decades that would be fresh to hear and compliment his current form. For example, Sing of Changes would be a delight again after a leave of absence. Ever Present Past, Alligator and so many others. As for this compilation release, it would be great to feature some of the unsung heroes on this tour. From the last tour, songs like All Together Now or Hi Hi Hi, could be dropped in favor of something with more substance, or just freshen it up a bit? Though I never get tired of hearing 1985 live, or anything from Band on the Run. Ram is really, really such a great LP, it's shame we do not hear much from it live. The first solo release McCartney, has plenty of ripe songs for some acoustic numbers, that would be something indeed. Temporary Secretary would be great to hear, though despite the little resurgence for the song in recent years, it's probably not the easiest for Sir Paul & Band to perform live. I would think Bogey Music and Summer's Day Song would be more do-able as welcome addition. Would represent that underrated album as well. The album, 'Flowers In The Dirt' kind of has a dated production / sound despite the strong material. I bet with this tight and strip down band of the last decade, they could really highlight these songs to new heights. I'm sure the same could be said for some other gems. With the somewhat recent archive release of Tug Of War, how great would it be hear Wanderlust, Ball Room Dancing and Somebody Who Cares? Either way, the man enjoys performing and it shows. This is the real deal and this band line up is top notch. I just hope for some new surprises. We're all lucky that Sir Paul is still inspired to keep touring at this high level. I hope he finds and shares some new moments on this tour. Cheers. -Eddie

"Certainly there must be more insight and other stories to tell? Also, site specific ones? Different Songs, new dialog? I know it's a big, coordinated production, but would love for some spontaneity. I think Sir Paul can also afford to challenge his audience a bit more." Exactly, I have been saying this for years. Wouldn't it be nice to hear some stories about his solo songs for a change. My goodness, his solo career began in 1980 so there must be a wealth of things he could talk about from 36 years - lol. "New material is always welcomed too. There are many great songs that have not been around for long, so Sir Paul has not played for decades that would be fresh to hear and compliment his current form. For example, Sing of Changes would be a delight again after a leave of absence. Ever Present Past, Alligator and so many others. " Many of us have been wanting this for years also and I would love to hear something like "Take It Away", "Dance Til We're High", "Little Willow", "Dear Boy" or "Promise To You Girl" for example.

Hi, and welcome to the site...always thrilling to see Paul, but seeing him at the first show of a tour really kicks it up a notch!! I'm sure it will be amazing no matter what he plays this time around. Have a fantastic time!!!
-
I'm hoping he brings some songs back this band has played before such as coming up, hope of deliverance, rockshow. Of course it would also be nice to hear no more lonely nights, silly love songs, maybe my brace face, but I'm sure I'm dreaming on those. Who knows though. He may suprise is all and throw in Watching the Wheels as the Lennon tribute....
-
I'm betting he opens with Magical Mystery Tour or Drive My Car. Second tune might be Flaming Pie. I just hope he plays Let Me Roll It and Long And Winding Road. Now THAT would shake things up!
-
Here my prediction for an evenutally Lennon tribute, Paul could be play one of these songs: 1.In my life 2.Lucy in the sky with diamonds 3.I am the walrus For Harrison: 1.Here comes the sun 2.While my guitar gently weeps 3.Do you want to know a secret. But probably will play Here Today and Something!
-
A live version of "Girls School" Will be so great! And I have a feeling that he will play "Goodnight Tonight" this time, it's really weird he never played (except one time in 2012), he can handle it and it's a great song. Well, we'll see in 3 days!

He played "Goodnight Tonght" during the '79 tour:
