It's like he's singing with one lung. There is no power in his voice. It's been croaky or wobbly before sometimes but not like this. It's weak, and sometimes feeble. Interestingly the press reviews have made no issue of it. Not yet.
He should take a year off, rest his voice, mix and release his new album. Promote it on TV and radio. Maybe do an hour long promo show to be broadcast around the world to promote it. Then, announce shows to promote his new music, say he will play five new songs, and ten Beatle tunes and ten solo songs. Do what Billy Joel does. Schedule one concert a month in NYC and/or London, and let fans travel to see him. Maybe, every once in a while, in between shows, with two weeks of rest between, play a show in Los Angeles, or Denver, or wherever. And that's it. Why not do that? Most artists his age are doing a residency. And Billy Joel just does shows, he doesn't announce "tours." Paul should stop that.
Based on the vids I'm hearing online, he may be past that. Well past that. He is struggling to reach notes that had been his sweet spot. Given the number of shows added to this tour, we may be dealing with a man who's either in denial, or a man who secretly knows that he's going to hang it up after One On One.
Could be. He keeps adding shows. NOT good for the voice. I will be an optimist and say his voice will get stronger. I hope.

He's got to know, right? I mean he's such a perfectionist and control freak (and I mean those in the nicest ways possible) that there's no way he DOESN'T know, right?
-
A regular problem for rock legends who have their asses kissed 'round the clock and are surrounded by sycophants who wouldn't dare keep it real with the boss.
-
Don't remember if I said it in this thread but Paul sounded better last night in Seattle than he did in the 2 previous shows. Perhaps he needs to warm up a bit more. And singing for close to 4 hours a day (if you count the hour long soundcheck) is perhaps too much for his age and vocal chords.

Paul can't have a residency. That would force him to change his setliat.

I saw him Friday night in Portland and thought he sounded great. It was my 19th show, and I thought he seemed strong. On the way out of the show, people were raving about him. It's hard to make a sound judgement based on low quality audio from YouTube videos. I'd suggest people stop fearing the worst and worrying so much about him and just enjoying the moment. Today is all any of us have.

Not been on here for ages, wake up his voice is shot & no one will tell him. Paul you "sound s***" would be John, Linda or even George's (Harrison) responses and voice has been in decline since 2004 (those out door European shows were the start) his large tours of 2002/03 started all this decline & he's been on the road ever since. The set list is too big, his sound check too long & he still hardly takes any fluid on stage he is 74 quite soon, he doesn't need to do it but while the lemmings will continue to pay ? or $ he'll still do it. How he thinks he is offering value for money right now is quite poor sense of judgement but he is surrounded by yes men. I will keep my memories of 2003 when he still could do it, its a shame but age catches up with everyone.
-
I suspect people who think Paul sounds great at these current shows never saw him in 76, 89, 93, or even 2002 and 2005, or 2010.

Sounds like he is surrounded by 15,000 yes men and women at every show! I think his voice needs a rest. Like a year. He has two back to back shows starting tomorrow. Damn.

I think the ONE On ONE tour will be the last one!
-
NO I doubt this will be his last tour. And if he couldn't sing pretty well, he wouldn't tour so he's singing pretty good, just about all the audience is very satisfied. I just wish he'd appreciate more of his own songs, recognize their great appeal, and sing more of the ones he's neglected or never done at all in concert.
-
His voice is nowhere what it was before and the You Tube videos from the gigs do his voice a disservice. Whilst he can get out there, sing and sound something like the man I remember then I'll be going to the gigs.
-
Paul won't stop. History reveals that the only things that stopped him before were Friends (or Beatles), Family (or exes), and death. Regardless of the quality of voice, he'll keep going. Maybe that sounds like a dream, but I fear if he doesn't make changes to the format of this show in years to come it will be everyone's nightmare. I have no doubt that he'll become one of the Tony Bennett or Frankie Valli types that just keeps on goin'...but he's gotta know how to do it and when to make those changes. It would also be really weird to see someone in their 80's filling a baseball stadium...

Bingo! This man wins a cupie doll.

...or maybe like Paul himself, perhaps some fans are in denial.

He was really rough in Fresno. Some changes to the setlist could help. I'm just glad he's still playing, but it's definitely a struggle on some songs.

I have no idea what a cupie doll is, but I'll gladly accept one.

Paul should hydrate during the gig, and play the shows spread out more. Beyonc? has more rest time than Paul. He does 30 shows a year on average, so it could easily be broken up into more spread out periods. He could do at least 2 shows every other month, and then select months (March, April, June, July, August, October let's say) do 3 additional gigs, with at least 2 days off between shows. Plus, cut the set down by 20 minutes at least. The shows were shorter in '02 than now.
