Set List critique

Mixed reviews on the setlist, if that stays the same for Berlin then I will get to hear 9 songs for the first time. Unlike the out there tour there doesnt seem to be a wow factor moment, its good that Paperback Writer and Helter Skelter are rested, but why keep the 3 'NEW' songs in. On a positive note Fool on the Hill, Letting Go, and Here there & Everywhere are very welcome additions, please can they stick around.

In this relation there is another big fact I can't understand. He announced his Pure McCartney Set... For me there isn't any real link from the current setlist to this album (apart from this songs 4-5 like Let me roll it which were always performed).
this was only the warm up in the US. he will completely change the setlist in Europe

I've said this in a couple of other threads, but (overall), I like the changes to the setlist. Where the show suffers is in the second half. The second half just feels like "Out There" all over again, with not a lot of variety in terms of what songs are played.

I've just seen a video of Here There & Everywhere from that show, it's so good & works really well on the piano. I'm also glad now that it's just one decent sized encore instead of two really small ones

in the case of all the tours since 1989 the second part of the show seems to be difficult generally because of the strong tendency of mainly Beatles songs + Band on the run tunes which are nearly non-negotiable. There were some little changes in the encore... but the structure was never changed. : @SandraH Yes we paid for a real new experience. Nice Imagination.

I will check the vids out thanks. I agree with the concept of 1 encore but he could add a few more in.

But why's I've Got a Feeling back? It has been in a lot of his concerts from 2005-2012 if not all of those shows. So a lot of the loyal fans will have seen it while someone who's seeing him for the first time can make do without that song coming back
u've right I've no idea excepted he has forgotten hundreds great tunes from the last 40 years . In this relation there is another big fact I can't understand. He announced his Pure McCartney Set... The problem Paul has is he does a "new" tour every year, so it is not realistic to have a new set list and stage if you only have a six month break between "tours." The Stones play pretty much the same set list, but take a few years off between tours and have new staging that retain the main elements. People on this forum are desperate for anything new or fresh in the set list. I get that. But really, there is nothing new here. Except for the opener (I will get to that), he has played everything here on a past tour in some form. You Won't See Me acoustic is not prize over the full band treatment from 2004. Why not do a full band version? They HAVE played it before! In Spite Of All The Danger? A song that he wrote before he was a great songwriter? Just play I Lost My Little Girl next. And ignore What Your Doing and Wait. ok. Rolling Eyes Love Me Do is OK, but almost in the same category. He did this with PS Love Me Do many years ago. Not impressive. But OK. Cool. A Hard Day's Night: One of John Lennon's great Beatle songs that Paul had NOTHING to do with. It sounded great with John on the verse and Paul on the bridge, because, although John wrote it, he could not hit the high notes so he let Paul sing that part. I saw a video of him doing it last night and am underwhelmed. Paul is OK on it, but if he wants an optimum impact Beatle hit to open with, why not Can't Buy Me Love, a song he wrote??? Or even I Want To Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, or From Me To You, songs he at least co wrote?? I am holding my breath for him to start saying in interviews that he co wrote A Hard Day's Night with John. Rolling Eyes I am glad I saw him in 1993 when he DID play Here There and Everywhere and Can't Buy Me Love, with a much stronger voice. My gosh, it would have been ballsy to open with Save Us, or Helen Wheels. And stick AHDN in the middle of the set as a John tribute to replace Here Today. I would gladly see this show in Albuquerque. But AGAIN, I will save my money and not travel for this tour. I saw RAIN last night and I promise you, they did AHDN better than Paul did.

maybe there is something changing by us fans... As I already wrote I'm surely not alone by canceling my plans to buy further tickets for one or two concerts more this year. Fans regret the setlist not only here... I'm sure that the low ticket demand here in germany will not change by this setlist. He did a break here for 5 years and returns with a setlist which is already well known... I don't see he performs now Hope of deliverance (No. 1 Hit once) that's never happend again since 1993. Very sad but true. https://secure.eventim.de/Tickets.html?affiliate=EVE&kuid=487&erid=1007599&action=tickets&doc=artistPages/tickets&fun=artist&language=en By the way isn't it an interessting fact that there isn't any official concert CD/DVD/Bluray after Good Evening NY? I mean that's significant by it's own...

Good point. That is because that IS the official DVD for this tour!

Aside from the setlist, was Paul's between song "patter" the same or are there new stories as well? Or was it still about Clapton tuning Hendrix's guitar, a conversation he never had with John, Bach's bourree, just the boys then just the girls, etc.

good question

Well, at least Paul has saved me some serious money. Nothing really new here at all. I'll be skipping this tour. Disappointed.

He told the Red Square story after Back in the USSR, and also he told a new story (for the show at least) after Love Me Do (the one where he talks about George Martin having him sing the 'Love Me Do' line after the chorus)

I would bet it is basically the same script - lol

I understand, I have not seen him since 2010 and doubt I will again. Not worth the money at this point to get pretty much what I have heard in the past in a better voice.

"One On One" tour (first night - Frenso, April 2016) setlist review: TL;DR: really disappointing setlist *new *A Hard Day's Night - why the f*** does he opens his tour with John Lennon song, he has barely one line there Save Us - OK, but "Jet" is a better option Can't Buy Me Love - Nice Letting Go - KEEP, it should replace "Let Me Roll It" Temporary Secretary - love that's one, keep Let Me Roll It / Foxy Lady - he should play "Letting Go"/ "Goodnight Tonight" instead (he can switch between them) I've Got a Feeling - Nah, ok My Valentine - Nice song be it's time to change Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five - KEEP *Here There and Everywhere (piano version) - really nice idea to play it on the piano, keep and switch it with LAWR from time to time Maybe I'm Amazed - GREAT song, but his voice can't handle it anymore We Can Work It Out - ok *In Spite Of All The Danger - nice addition, espically with the story behind this. *You Won't See Me (acoustic) - nice, he can keep it for a while *Love Me Do - nice, but it's still John in must of the parts And I Love Her - really nice to hear, keep Blackbird - it was played too much, boring Here Today - he should play a different tribute, maybe "Strawberry Fields Forever/Help/Give Peace A Chance" Queenie Eye - replace it with a new solo song, maybe "My Brave Face" New - replace it with a new solo song, maybe "Pipes Of Peace" *The Fool on the Hill - Nice, he can switch it with "Your Mother Should Know" from time to time Lady Madonna - good and short little song, keep FourFiveSeconds - Oh no Eleanor Rigby - he can let it go Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite - another John Lennon's song, he should play more Wings songs - maybe "Beware My Love" AND "Silly Love Songs", or if he wants Beatles song - "Getting Better" Something - really nice trubute, but he can refresh it with "Taxman" Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da - boring, if he wants a bouncy song he can try - "Spin It On" or "Balroom Dancing" Band on the Run - this is a great song and I always happy to hear it live altough it was played on every show for the last 10000 years Back in the USSR - nice as well but he can refresh it, "Why Don't We Do It in the Road" can be awesome Let it Be - a must for the ones who hears it for the first time Live and Let Die - a must Hey Jude - a must for the ones who hears it for the first time + a really fun song Yesterday - a must for the ones who hears it for the first time Hi Hi Hi - really nice but if he will replace it with "Girls School" it would be AMAZING Birthday - Boring, bring back "I Saw Her Standing There" Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weigh/The End- Great ending Buttom line: a disappointing setlist for this first "One On One" tour show, most of the new songs are John's and things he played earlier and brought them back, not even one post-Beatles addition to the set, the rest is just the "Out There" tour with a new name and with one encore only, I hope he'll add more songs in the future.
Love me do it's not "John in must of the parts", in fact is sung by Paul and John in harmony and the solo lines are sung by Paul. The song also was written mostly by PAUL. You can check that in any book about The Beatles.
