People in general seem to like "Ebony & Ivory" much more than the hardcore fans do. Back in the late-'90s, I had a part-time job at a digital imaging company, and we all played our own CDs. I brought in Tripping The Live Fantastic one day, and practically everyone in the room sang along when "E&I" came on. I was surprised.
Not a bad song...was just grossly over played back in 1982..I remember liking the song, then wishing to never hear it again in short order back then..however my stance has greatly softened since then (since I don't hear it very often...in fact never on the radio; only occasionally when I dust off my copy of tug of war)

Staggering that it was #1 for seven weeks.

My sister was at this show in the 11th row. She said, while Paul does look older (to be expected!), he also looked fit and sang really great!

No Ebony & Ivory in Detroit. He did Marvin Gaye's Hitchhike , after going to the Motown Museum before the concert.

Paul and Hamish!

And when Stevie Wonder joined Paul on stage in LA during that 1989 gig, it was actually the second time the song was performed that evening (he had earlier played it in it's original place in the set list)
Yes. We had seen Stevie Wonder outside the arena before the show started, so we knew he was there. When Paul began to play "Ebony"during the regular set, we assumed that there would be no guest appearance, that they would save that sort of thing for the encore. Well, when he got to the encores and introduced Stevie, I had a wild thought that perhaps they would play "What's That You're Doin"!!! since "E&I" had already been performed. Nope! "Ebony & Ivory" for the second time that evening. It's an ok song, not one of his best, I think that some of the reason it was such a big hit was because of the superstar duet factor and also that video was all over MTV in those days. It's kind of a boring song done live, or at least it was back then.

Yeah, it is not a song that needs to be added. There are plenty more that would work better live. Too Many People Take It Away This One Young Boy To name a few.

He did it during a Wrigley Field soundcheck that summer.

Thanks everyone for the compliment about my pics, happy to share them with everyone. I am just so glad my new camera performed so well; the zoom was super clear and the spot metering tip I read about in the camera thread was very helpful and easy to use.

My husband ran into a young man (20-something) that had been to the show in Minneapolis Saturday night (hubby was wearing a Paul t-shirt!) The "youngster" said the show was fabulous (it was his first time) and he was still mentally processing it and couldn't really put into words what he saw except this: "I CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST SAW A BEATLE!" That's my reaction . . . Every.Time.

Yeah! After Ringo Starr's show in Albuquerque a month ago, I heard a young girl say the exact same thing!
