Lewisohn's Book
-
I read the abridged and then bought the unabridged, but I don't plan to read it for quite a while. I have so many books stacked up to read!
-
I am the same way. Took me a while to get through my list to get to Tune In. I'm just thinking I'd like to re-read it, unabridged style, in a year or two while waiting for Volume 2.

Exactly!

I've got the new reprint of the extended edition. Is it any different from the first printing? Different kind of paper, mistakes corrected, etc?
-
Does anyone know the story behind the graphics on the UK cover? The 3D text looks like it's out of 1997 and not reflective of the book's contents. Is there an optical illusion I'm supposed to see? It confuses me.

I've got the first printing of that but as far as I know, nothing has changed.

Thanks. I got it from Amazon UK and fortunately it was well packaged and arrived undamaged. I had read complaints about that, so I was a little worried.

My slipcase has some minor damage and I didn't see any personalized card in my set ....how did you manage to get that? Is it hidden somewhere in the set? I'm gonna have to call Amazon as these books were too expensive to be damaged.
-
Is this the newest book out about the Beatles and do they have great pictures in it? Maybe I can order it at the library and take a peak
-
I found it on my library's website and ordered it. Let's see if it's a good one.

I met the author last year and kept the signed card for 10 months. Now that I've got the book, I put it inside the box.

Mine is signed on the inside of the book.

It is THE best book ever written about the Beatles (and I've read them all!)

You mean an unabridged copy? Are they all signed? I haven't even opened mine! Will have to check it!

No not the unabridged version. The 1st one. He signed a bunch & sold them through the Fest for Beatle Fans.

I just finished this book and I have to say it is, hands down, the best Beatles book I have ever read. Mark Lewisohn is a fantastic writer - the book reads more like a novel than a historical document. It is incredibly detailed yet always interesting and entertaining. I love how he dispelled some of the common rumors or misperceptions with an incredible amount of research. Also, there was a topic here asking if you could pick an hour of the Beatles history to be a part of or witness, what would it be. I want to change my answer now to any show in the Cavern in 62. Must we wait so long for the next one??

So, you'd like to hear them with Pete Best playing instead of Ringo?
-
Ringo played the Cavern. To the chants of "Pete forever. Ringo never!" But I'll take any Cavern date. The front line was the real show w Pete anyway. Maybe the show when they played the first part in their leather and the second in their new Brian Epstein approved suits.

I respect that. For me, I would like to see them in 1962, the fall, Ringo's been onboard for a few month, The Cavern, any date through the end of the year.
