I'm more than half through it, and so far, no major new things, really. Little tidbits of things, but no biggies for most of us who have devoured every little thing ever written about the Beatles! One thing that annoys me a bit, is when he describes a photo, but it isn't included in the book! I want to see it! (Don't want to spoil it, but be ready for what is said about Paul in Hamburg, by Stu.)
I know what you mean. He talked about the photo of George & family on VE Day, but didn't include it. (it's in Living In The Material World which I have & I remembered that photo without looking for it) Can't wait to get into the Hamburg stuff! When is Part 2 of this book possibly coming out? Hell, I will be about 73 by the time Part 3 comes out!

I think he is still researching parts 2 & 3. So we might get parts 2 & 3 around the same time McCartney finishes remastering his records Seriously, I think part1 took about 10 years to research and write, but he has been researching parts 2&3 as he went along, and he has said it wont take that long for the rest. But he hasn't set release dates either.

Yes, he's still researching vol 2 and has only written little bits of it. My guess is 2-5 yrs till we get vol 2 and another 2-5 yrs after that for vol 3. But what heartens me at least is that since those years are SO MUCH MORE documented than the pre-fame years, he should have an easier time chasing down info. UPDATE: Wow, no sooner did I make my assumptions above about Lewisohn than I stumble upon this article that has the following statement from him: ""Most of my research was aimed at Volume 1, but along the way I've done maybe 40 percent of the research for Volume 2 and maybe 10 percent for Volume 3," he says, adding that while this first book took about 10 years to complete, the second one probably will come in another six or seven years, and he expects to follow a similar time frame for the final installment. "I'll be 70 by then and wanting to finish it," he says." http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013 ... ccartney/2 Should I play the lottery now or what!?

Yeah, I saw that quote, that's why I said I'll be 73 (I'm 3 years older than Mark!)

Yeah, I certainly hope I will live long enough to read the whole thing! Think it might be cutting it pretty close, though!

Well, you'e a nurse so you'll probably live a long time. You know how to do it I'm on p. 136 of the American, trimmed down version, and I'm wondering what is the difference between the toilet area and the bathroom. Per Paul about practicing his guitar in the loo: "The fine acoustic of the toilet area was always very appealing to me. And it was also very private, about the only private area in the house. I used to sit there for hours--there and the bathroom. "

Yeah, that's another thing I have a little trouble with in the book: quite a few what I guess are "British-isms", which have me scratching my head, and having to make my best guess. I thought I was familiar with most of them, but this book has some new ones on me!

When I visited 20 Forthlin Rd. I noticed that the toilet was in a separate room from the room with the bath & sink. So he meant exactly what he said (2 areas: the toilet area & the bathroom)

Fortunately, Mark explains some things in the footnotes, and tells how to pronounce certain words like Gateacre (Gatt'aker)

I'm up to 1956 when Paul's mum dies. God, I am loving this book for all the fantastic detail! My coworker who bought the unabridged version from Amazon UK is going to lend it to me when he's done!

I think lots of libraries will get it. I may have to wait 6 mos., but I'll finish this one in the meantime and read a few more. Then, who knows. I may be ready for the unabridged version.

Our Paul doesn't come off too well in this book. He seems quite petulant and difficult to deal with, and not too popular with many people. You may have a tendency to expect that more with John, but it appears John was liked more by those they knew, despite all his crazy, cruel, nasty behavior. Some things never change...

Have you read the whole book? I'm just starting the 1959 chapter. BTW, anyone besides me notice he spells Ringo's real name (shortened) as Richy? That's the first time I've ever seen it spelled that way. Usually it is Richie or Ritchie. I wonder if he consulted Ringo about that.

I'm almost at the end...doing my best to drag it out, but...And, yes, that was the first I saw "Richy", too. I heard an interview with Mark L. and he insists that is how Ringo spells it. He said he's seen things that Ringo signed, and that is the spelling.
