What an illuminating and informative article! Thanks so much for posting it! I took a bit of flack in another thread for saying George always played "in service of the Beatles song," and for crediting him as an influential guitarist. This writer does a much better job of asserting and supporting such a claim. So obviously I'm more than a bit biased, but I think he gets to the essence of identifying what informed George's style. George often cited his shortcomings and struggles as a lyricist, but I think this piece aptly describes how his guitar became his surrogate "voice," and gave him the means to express the subtleties of his emotions and moods when words failed. Again, it's just part of the consummate Beatles magic that his playing so completely complemented Lennon's and McCartney's linguistic gifts.
