Great pic of George and Tom Petty!

This date in '58: Japage 3 ("Jay-page" - 'Ja' for 18-year-old John, 'pa' for 16-year-old Paul, 'ge' for 15-year-old George) debuted at the wedding reception of George's brother Harry and his bride Irene McCann.
"Our wedding was just one of those occasions where they thought they would practice on people and see what happened," Harry later recalled. "They were not exactly... what the majority of the people there expected. They had a tea-break and an elderly lady who was one of the guests came along to play the piano who was a real pub player. She could really hammer out tunes that everybody wanted to sing to. The three lads reappeared from the bar, pints in hand, and John just poured a pint over this lady’s head, just straight over the head, saying ‘I anoint thee David,’ and just walked away.
"And this lady surprised me because there was absolutely nothing, just no reaction. She just smiled and got up and went away and got dry again, y’know, and I thought it was funny because in those days people used to say ‘Oh, has he had a wedding in Liverpool? How many fights were there?' But like there wasn’t even a fight, y’know; the nearly-fight was John Lennon pouring a pint on her head."
Today, Liverpool's Childwall Abbey Hotel and pub, on (I kid you not) Childwall Abbey Road, retains the salient architectural features.

Better photo, plus what it looks like today. Another coincidence is that Harry’s bride’s maiden name was McCann, which is the name of the street Louise Harrison lived on in Benton Illinois!

Wonder what photo Paul is showing everyone? (The rest of the lads look bored stiff!)

These guys remained friends in spite of Eric’s affair with George’s wife Pattie, and George’s affair with Ringo’s wife Maureen. Amazing!

Rehearsing among stage props for an appearance on Granada Television's 'People And Places' today in 1963.
The 6:35 pm live broadcast - during which The Beatles mimed to 'Ask Me Why' and 'Please Please Me' - was sandwiched between a rehearsal and recording session at Manchester's Playhouse Theatre for the BBC Radio show 'Here We Go', performing the same numbers in addition to ‘Chains’ and ‘Three Cool Cats’. -
Today in 1964: rehearsing for a second and final appearance on "Val Parnell’s Sunday Night at the London Palladium", again hosted by the multitalented Bruce Forsyth.
The Beatles had been paid £250 the first time, three months earlier; now it was £1,000 - and marked their initial encounter with singer Alma Cogan who, following the 8:25 to 9:25pm live broadcast, invited them back to the flat she shared with her mother and younger brother.
Topping the bill, the group performed 'I Want to Hold Your Hand', 'This Boy', 'All My Loving', 'Money (That’s What I Want)' and 'Twist and Shout'. This home audio recording is all that survives... for now:
